Virtues and vices of the 14th century society - The Roman de Fauvel
Nelibová, Johana ; Nejedlý, Martin (advisor) ; Soukupová, Věra (referee)
The goal of my bachelor thesis is to introduce the little-known French medieval novel Roman de Fauvel to a larger awareness and present it as a valuable source for studies of the medieval society and its behaviour. Thanks to Fauvel, a horse who becomes a king of the people, the reader has an opportunity to immerse into the life at the court and uncover its true face. In my bachelor thesis, I will follow two important European courts, the court of France and the court of Bohemia, which were connected by the king John of Luxemburg. Thus, I will try to show how virtuous and dissolute the society around the king and the king himself is. What does the story about Fauvel want to say to the reader? The thesis will employ knowledge of other disciplines, such as literary science or fine art, for Roman de Fauvel is kept in many illuminations. All strands of the thesis will be regularly consulted with the thesis supervisor.

The Construction of Historical Reality in Jean Froissart's Chronicles Jean Froissart, one of the most famous chroniclers of the Middle Ages, is generally recognized for the literary qualities of his work, less so for the credibility of his account. In my research I have endeavoured to follow those scholars whose aim has been to rehabilitate the author by studying him not on the basis of principles which govern our contemporary understanding of history as an academic discipline, but rather on the basis of conceptual movements which conditioned historical writing in the 14th century, taking into account the traditions upon which medieval conception of history was built. Put differently, this work seeks to examine closely the "historical forge" of Jean Froissart. Clearly, Froissart's historical project falls within a specific discourse on historical genres, on relationships between form and truth which an account of deeds is expected to convey, on the manner in which the authority of a story being told is constructed. It is on the very intersection of this context, on the one hand, and the individuality of the author, on the other, that I based my search for the chronicler's perspectives on the writing of history. Froissart was from the outset concerned with the issues of impartiality and credibility...

The practical part is based on analyses of medical records and personal documentations of selected clients of ARPIDA centre; author?s own direct observation; analyses of interviews held with parents and other members of the multidisciplinary team; and observations made by the author while performing her duties as a physiotherapist. Finally, it was concluded that application of Vojta method is necessary within the comprehensive system of rehabilitation which strives to reduce the effects of the disability and improve the quality of life in subjects with the said disability. The author?s own research was designed to verify the findings learned from the literature reviewed for the purposes of the theoretical part. The conclusion of the practical part contains a summary of results, assessment of accomplished goals; and research outcomes and recommendations. The thesis may be found useful by both experts and students who have professional interests in the issue; yet, it should also be made available to the members of the multidisciplinary team as a feedback.
