The imperial court and courtly career the princes of Dietrichstein and Schwarzenberg during the reign of Leopold I.
SMÍŠEK, Rostislav
The aim of these dissertation theses is to show how the Bohemian and Moravian noblemen perceived their career at the imperial court during the almost fifty years long reign of Leopold I., and furthermore to learn more about the thinking and the system of values, which compelled the nobelmen to direct their steps to the imperial court in Vienna. Because of the presently incomplete state of knowledge these theses can not be considered as a synthesis of the presented topic, but more likely as an analytical case study. On this account the author of these theses did not focus on the whole Bohemian and Moravian nobility. As an example case he chose two noble families with their residences in Bohemia and Moravia - the Dietrichsteins and the Schwarzenbergs. Compiling detailed facts from the inheritance documents of these two families the author tries to describe the way how the members of both families regarded the imperial court and how they were in relation to the milieu of the capital of the Habsburg Monarchy and to the family of the Emperor.
