Principle of similarity in relation to photography
Kliment, Jáchym ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Silverio, Robert (referee)
The subject of my thesis is similarity in photography. The first part provides a complex definition of the principle of similarity, with emphasis on philosophy, logics, mathematics, semiotics, iconology and iconography. A connection of similarity with analogy, sylogism, mimesis and association is also pursued. The second part, which represents the core of the paper, selectively explores similarity as a stylistic and semanticising means in contemporary photography. Apart from other aspects, diptych and series in photography are discussed in greater detail.
Women in the contemporary finnish photography
Zmudová, Žaneta ; Musilová, Helena (advisor) ; Silverio, Robert (referee)
In my final bachelor paper I have focused on the work of the Finnish female photographers of the past fifteen years. They graduated at The University of Art and Design Helsinki during this period of time. The time determination is connected with the coming of Timothy Persons to the university. He helped his students a lot to present their work, mainly abroad. I chose the topic Women for closer determination of the contemporary Finnish photography, also from my own interest and I tried to make a survey of the work of Finnish female photographers who come from a different cultural background. This paper has been divided into several parts. It goes from the background introduction of the Helsinki School as the proof of the school success and present activities to the contentual and visual specific features of the Finnish female photographers and also main tendencies in their work including the photography presentation of the selected photographers.

( Fotografuji, abych nezapomněl) a " Truths and Fictions? ( Skutečnosti a fikce).

Self-Portrait and its Forms in Works of Famous Photographers and in Works of Younger Generation in the Czech and Slovak Republic
Bričová, Katarína ; Grygar, Štěpán (advisor) ; Silverio, Robert (referee)
My graduation thesis shows reflections on the phenomenon of the self ? portrait. I am particularly interested in the answer to the question why most artists have been attracted by the self ? portrait. At the beginning of my thesis I follow examples of the self ? portraiture in the history of Art. First part refers to the development of the self ? portrait in photography. Then I show how the self ? portrait was influenced from Ancient Egypt to Renaissance and Impressionism and how it is influenced in the present times. The self ? portrait has appeared in photography from the very beginning. Its different aspects are shown in photographic self ? portraits of famous photographers. In next chapter I focus on different features of this phenomenon in works of contemporary photographers such as Nan Goldin, Cindy Sherman, Orlan, Jeff Koons, Gilbert and George and others. The sixth chapter is devoted to a seeking and exploring generation of younger artists from the Czech and Slovak Republics. They are either recent graduates in Art or students of Art at universities. I interview them in attempt to discover a source of inspiration for their photographic self ? portraits and to find out how it started, what goals they wanted to attain by self ? presentation and how they benefit from it. In the last chapter I explain the importance of self ? portrait in my life. Is it a form of art therapy or a form of narcissism? Are intimate confessions of artists really important in the present times? In conclusion I reflect on the answers from the interviews with some contemporary photographers and sum up my discoveries from them.
