This thesis follows the life of the Czech composer of the twentieth century, Miloslav Kabeláč, with special focus on his Sonatina for Oboe and Piano op. 24. The aim is to shed light on the grim fate of a signifiant Czech symphonist, whose music was silenced during both the World War II and the communist era in Czechoslovakia. An analysis of Sonatina for Oboe and Piano has been performed and included in order to increase the general awareness of this piece and to help other interprets better understand it and study it more thoroughly.

Bachelor theses is focused on compositions originaly written for oboe and guitar in
period from the middle of 19th century to the 10s of 21st century. The research introduces life
and work of eight composers. There are Napoleon Coste, Ferdinand Rebay, Karl Pilss, Barna
Kováts, Bruno Bartolozzi, Tom Eastwood, Toru Takemitsu and Peter Dayton in the selection.
The bachelor theses looks for what motivates composers to compose for oboe and guitar.
There is imporatant question of dedication to concrete oboe player or guitar player, which
bachelor theses tries to answer.

Chamber music of Bohuslav Martinů

The chamber compositions of Bohuslav Martinů is one of the important chapters in the composer's life, which belongs to a large part of his work. The aim of this work is to describe individual periods with a focus on his chamber works. The characteristics of these compositions depend on different life stages of the author and other circumstances that have strongly influenced the life of this composer. While in his childhood he began to compose rather minor compositions, he was able to get a scholarship in Paris during the student years and to study under the direction of important composer A. Roussel. The situation during the Second World War unfortunately forced him to immigrate to America. There he composed his most important works and after the war he returned to Europe.

New trends and possibilities in oboe reed making

In the following thesis is firstly described oboe cane (arundo donax). How to harvest, kinds of charter and main cane producers. First capitol is made of essay, how to choose and process the cane. Then are introduced three dominant developers of oboe reed making tools – firstly biografy, next their machines. These maschines are separated in three groups – rough - process machines, precise – process machines and measures. In the last part of this thesis is described reed construction, kinds of profiling and also practical questions like – „What can I do, when…?“. Thesis is finished with short autors reflection about new comming phenomen „plastic reed“ and his advantages and disadvantages.

Oboe works of Czech composers in the 18th century

This work deals with the oboe works of Czech composers of the 18th century. Its aim is to bring the composer and their works into wider awareness, for many have already been forgotten. I focused on oboe concerts, sonatas, quartets and marginal chamber compositions written for oboe or related instruments. For this I have used all available means: literature, the internet, recordings and sheet music materials. The work also includes an analysis of Fiala’s E♭ major Concerto for English horn and Orchestra, which inspired me to write this work. It is not possible to circumvent without shortly outlining the time and the political situation, since its influence on the musicians at that time was often very significant. It also addresses the question of their frequent emigration abroad and why Czech composers have contributed to the development of the early European classicism. I set out to aim not only to create an overview of the oboe creation of these authors, but also to provide brief biographies showing their personalities. By studying the materials, I have gradually come to realize that many works are really valuable and, in my opinion, wrongly neglected.

Oboe - history and evolution of the instrument

Thesis with the title: Oboe - history and evolution of the instrument deals with gradual development of double reeds wind instruments since prehistorical times until now. It should benefit wind instrument players and espetially oboe players.
This thesis is devided to fourteen chapters. First chapter sums up the history of the oldest double reeds instruments. Second continues with the description of shawms, which were direct predecessors of oboe. Following chapter describes most important part of oboe, as reed is, and shows its origin and evolution. Fourth and fifth chapters of the thesis deal with history of creation and development of baroque oboe and its reed. Continuing with chapter nuber six, which contains information about english horn as one of oboes related instruments, and chapter seven mentioning oboe da caccia. In eighth chapter we can find description of 18th century oboe developement and onwards the most famous players of oboe in chapter nine. In thenth chapter of the thesis we can find detailed description of oboe d'amoure. Most important literature written for oboe "d'amoure" is found in chapter number eleven. Chapter twelve contains evolution of the instrument in 18th century and personates most significant players of their time. Number thirteen summarizes information about oboe in 19th century. The contemporary shape of oboe as well as its current world vendor offer we can find in the last fourteenth chapter of the thesis.

Klement Slavický and his Suite for oboe and piano

This thesis deal with life and work of czech musical composer of 20th century, Klement Slavický with special focus on his Suite for oboe and piano. The effort is to approach life story of a persecuted composer, whose works were known behind the borders despite the unwillingness of a political regime. Althought his work as well as his life story is not in common awareness. The analysis of Suite for oboe and piano is to be a help to next interpreters to understand the piece and to be a help with its playing. There is also a studio recording made for better picture and clearness of the piece.

Isang Yun and his works for oboe

Isang Yun and his works for oboe is a title of this master thesis. It introduces a personality of a Korean composer Isang Yun and it focuses on his works for oboe. The first chapter contains resumé of principal moments of the composer´s life. The next chapter briefly touches characteristics of traditional Korean music, how the western culture is displayed in the Korean music, what is its influence on the Korean music and their inosculation into each other. The following chapter has an aim to introduce the biggest inspirational element in Yun´s life - the philospophy of Taoism. The fourth chapter describes a compositional style of Isang Yun in which elements of both different cultures combine in a unique way. In this chapter one fractional subchapter is also introduced where an insight into a few compositional techniques of the composer and an approach of audience to Yun´s music can be found. Final chapter contains analysis of eight compositions, which Isang Yun wrote for oboe Piri, Doppelkonzert for oboe and harp, Inventionen, Rondell, Images, Quartett for oboe and strings, Bläserquintett and Bläseroktett.
