Phenomenon of walking

The thesis is focused on the phenomenon of walking and it's influence on the human perception of the environment. Walking is conceived here as a sustainable way of life and is discussed in three different dimensions: social, environmental and spiritual. It therefore maps the meaning of walking in the human life and it's impact on the environmental concern. The social, environmental and spiritual dimension of walking is presented in the theoretical part of the thesis. There is an analysis of the influence of walking on human health, formation and evolution of hiking trails and ways of the human life within them. In addition, it also deals with the concept of the perception of the nature and the human relation to it. The empirical part of the thesis introduces quantitative research of the pedestrians environmental concern which was carried out in the form of a questionnaire survey. The data from this research is then compared with the data from a representative sample of the population of the Czech Republic obtained in the framework of ISSP Environment III research. Future development scenarios of Jilemnice City

Man is a part of the landscape and in permanent interaction with it. Almost each our activity has more or less impact on the landscape and the place where we live. For centuries we have been transforming the landscape to our own image, and therefore the scenarios of the possible development which I am trying to predict, are to show how such a place could or should be changed in the years to come. In the last years man has eventually begun to realise that his impact on the landscape can have catastrofic consequences and that those scenarios are very good impuls for the town, which is able thanks to them look at its own potential development, precede threats and take advantage of the occasions which might arise in the future the best. This theses devotes especially to prognostic methods. The main topic is then creating of four particular stories which are to outline how a life of a small town Jilemnice, which is considered to be a gate to Krkonoše/Giant mountains and cradle of cross-country skiing, may be developing in following twenty-five years. Briefly it introduces us the town which is the key issue for whole this work. Embankment of Prague, like a public place (space)

This diploma thesis is devoted to the topic of riverside docks in Prague. Riverside dock is a coastal area, which is on a lower level than an embankment. Previously used as docks for cargo and passenger ships and storage of sand. Nowadays they fulfill mainly recreational and socio-cultural function. The case study is focused on one of Prague's riverside docks, the riverside dock on Rašínovo nabrezi. In this thesis, I will focus on the description and explanation of the use of the riverside dock on Rašínovo nábřeží. Concentrating on its practical operation, conflicts of interests of individual participants and the impact on the environment and on the direct surroundings.
Dog in a public space. Negotiating "more than human" public space

The thesis deals with the presence of a dog in the city, specifically in the public space and the research itself is aimed at negotiating "more than human" public space. The presence of animals in the human world causes conflicts about the "right" place of this animal, whether is place conceptual or physical. The work takes the form of a case study, where I chose for research borough of Prague 2 and on particular cases of negotiation, I watched how each party tries to affect a form of public space. Through qualitative analysis I uncover the key points of negotiation by which I learn how the different parties understand the presence of a dog in a public space, on what basis is constantly negotiates form of residence and movement of the dog in this specific area. I have used several techniques of qualitative research, especially analysis of available documents, semi-structured interviews and participant observation. Data was analyzed using open coding. In the end the thesis answers to research questions, formulate recommendations and open debate.
Civil Society of Jizera Mountains and biosphere reserve. The future prospects of nongovernmental organisations in Jizera Mountains for biosphere reserve.

The thesis is based on the idea of extension the Krkonoše/Karkonosze transboundary biosphere reserve by Jizera Mountains territory. Biosphere reserves are established within the Man and the Biosphere Programme of UNESCO. According to the Madrid Action Plan it is necessary for the sake of appropriate functioning of biosphere reserve to involve all the stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations. Using semi-structured interviews with the representatives of the Jizera Mountains non-governmental organizations I therefor asked them about their opinion of the extension of the Krkonoše/Karkonosze transboundary biosphere reserve by this area and their willingness to participate in cooperation within the biosphere reserve as well. I investigated their sustainable development capacity, which in the same time represents their possible contribution to the biosphere reserve. The research shows that non-governmental organizations accepts the idea of the extension of the Krkonoše/Karkonosze transboundary biosphere reserve by Jizera Mountains. Together with it their potential for backing the appropriate functioning of biosphere reserve in this territory was proven. The causes and conditions of homelessness czech woman, subtitled: A case study the Project Cooks without home.

The diploma thesis deals with homelessness of Czech women. This issue is analysed in a case study research, which is focused on a project called Homeless Women Cook for the Public, which operates under the auspices of a non-profit organization Homelike. The project provides employment opportunities to clients of asylum houses, homeless women, rooming house occupants or women in similar difficulties. Through cooking they can make money for their essential needs. This project also aims to break through the barriers between the homeless people and the public, to change the opinion about homelessness in the Czech Republic and could help to a potential dialogue between both sides. This thesis focuses on clients of the project Homeless Women, deals with the causes of their difficult social situation, how and why they got into it and alternatively, how to help them to get back to their normal life. The following case study research can contribute& nbsp ;to understand the whole situation but it can also help in practice. Possible ways to deal with pigeon population problem in Czech towns

The thesis addresses issues related to the overbred population of feral pigeons (Columbia livia forma Domestica) in Czech towns. It approaches the subject from procedural, bureaucratic perspective. Specifically, the thesis examines the factors which affect the selection of methods of the feral pigeons' population regulation in four Czech towns: Special attention is devoted to the question whether the method of controlled city dovecotes, used to regulate pigeon populations, could come in useful in the Czech context. Research carried out for the thesis is qualitative; the data comes from semi-structured interviews with experts. Analysis of the collected data focuses on verification of authenticity of the provided information. Subsequently, effectiveness of cage entrapment, which considerably prevails over the other methods used, is considered in ethical, ecological, and economic respect. The thesis also surveys the health risk posed by the feral pigeon population to public and how views of the public concerning the issue affect the regulation process. The overall aim is to highlight the drawbacks of the decision making process, offer possible alternatives, and prompt more research.
Case Study reclamation of the quarry Silvestr in the Sokolov, or the path from the quarry to golf

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of public participation in deciding activities of reclamation. I chose former quarry Silvester near Dolni Rychnov as my research area. This area was transformed into eighteen-holes golf grounds and wood grounds with sport and relax stuff during reclamation work. This thesis consist of theoretical, methodological and empirical section. Theoretical section introduce basic concept of recultivation, law regulating recultivation, conservation, restoration ecology as scientic field and last but not least Sokolov region as region with long tradition of recultivation. The Methodological part describes methods of practical research, which is essential part of this thesis. The Empirical section introduce results of my research.
