Geoinformatic applications in landscape genetics

This Bachelor thesis shows elementary methods used in landscape genetics. Landscape genetics is a combine field of population genetics and landscape ecology. This field of study uses geoinformatic and statistic methods and methods of its mother fields. Here, the genetic methods from population genetics, will not be shown. This thesis is concern by the methods that are applied in study of the population boundaries and connectivity between populations. History and paradigm of both landscape genetics and Geoninformatic methods are also mentioned, for easier understanding of context. Lastly, most methods here are listed with Geoinformatic systems (GIS), which are computer programs, capable of using these methods and apply them on needed projects. Landscape permeability in context of it's fragmentation by traffic and suburbanization

Landscape permeability is currently significantly decreasing mainly due to anthropogenic barriers - transportation infrastructure and sub/urban development. The construction of these barriers has various environmental impacts on animals that differ among taxa. Ensuring a certain degree of permeability of the landscape is crucial for the survival of many species of organisms. Effective tools for the planning protection and restoration of the permeability of the landscape are series of models, whose theoretical framework and practical use are described in this thesis. The practical part deals with the modeling of changes in landscape permeability in the southern hinterlands of Prague. The effectiveness of the implemeted mitigation measures is also evaluated. Green Infrastructure of Central Europe

Green Infrastructure of Central Europe Green infrastructure is a strategically planned network that broadens the traditional conservation efforts to encompass the concept of ecosystem services. This study aims to identify green infrastructure network in Central Europe. Method presented in this thesis is an analysis of ecological connectivity based on ecosystem services potential quantified for CORINE land cover classes (Burkhard et al., 2009). Design of ecological corridors between the core areas represented by Natura 2000 sites is dependent on the capacity of ecosystems to provide ecological integrity and regulating services. Analysis was performed in ArcGIS Linkage Mapper extension. Green infrastructure network identifies 17 % of area of Central Europe that provides high values of ecosystem services. Corridors also create linkages between Natura 2000 sites and improve biodiversity conservation as well as they support migration corridors for large mammals. Full implementation of the Birds and Habitats directive and promoting of a European Green Infrastructure are two important targets of The EU Biodiversity strategy to 2020. Physical-geographical conditions as determining factor of regional development in the Šumava National park

Šumava belongs to very important areas in a European scale. It is one of the largest complexes with little disturbed nature and landscape in central Europe. Šumava deserves our attention. With advancing human activities in Šumava National park, it is necessary to evaluate development of Šumava National park. The issue includes many factors and actors who are shaping the landscape of the Šumava National park. I will try describe these influences. Review of natural and socio-economic conditions are basis. Framework of these conditions and development is environmentally-legislative definition of nature conservation in Šumava. The aim of the thesis is review of the theoretical knowledge about physical- geographical and socio-economic conditions and trends. It will be created spatial reference for the evaluation of regional development and landscape typology, included comparative analysis of physical-geographical conditions and socio-economic conditions as one of the bases of regional development in the context of the current nature conservation. The plant - habitat diversity relationship in the Křivoklátsko PLA

The term biodiversity means biological diversity at different levels - from genetic diversity, species diversity to ecosystem diversity. The distribution of plant diversity on Earth is not uniform and it is influenced by various factors. In my thesis I emphasize physical-geographic factors, which include climate, soil and topography. Next I assess the influence of environmental heterogeneity, ecological phenomenons, biotic factors and disturbances. I also assess biodiversity gradients, which include altitude and latitude gradient and size and remoteness of habitats. Another part is focused on the plant-habitat diversity relationship because this relation will be researched in the second part of my thesis. Křivoklátsko PLA was chosen as a model area for its specificity, interest and high species and habitat diversity. Comparison of model protected areas - evaluation of the quality and connectivity of habitats

This diploma thesis deals with the biodiversity hotspots - high biodiversity areas with a large proportion of endemic species, which also has already lost a significant part of its natural habitat. The historical development of the biodiversity hotspots concept is described, all 34 hotspots is characterized, species diversity and endemism of plants and animals, potential natural vegetation is analysed, as well as threats, anthropogenic impact and conservation considering protected areas, categories I-IV areas of the IUCN protected areas management system, and national parks. A complete digital vector database of national parks was created. Qualitative importance of each hotspot is evaluated using the Myers method and areas of the world with the highest conservation priority are identified. Landscape fragmentation by line barriers in the Czech Republic - development, state of the art and priorities of territorial protection Abstract This paper deals with the problem of landscape fragmentation by linear structures and changes in land cover printed in Europe and the Czech Republic. The development of the fragmentation geometry consisting of transport infrastructure and urban areas is described in detail in the years 1920-2020. In this time boundary the development of measure of landscape fragmentation in the Czech Republic is evaluated. This paper examines also the quality of the current unfragmented landscape. The degree of landscape fragmentation refills the value of ecological integrity (according to Burkhard et al., 2009). The results of gap analysis define the most valuable areas of the Czech countryside, which are not covered by existing special protection area (NP, CHKO, Natura 2000). The resulting areas are also compared to the territorial system of ecological stability and migration important area for the large mammals. Assessment of the impact of landscape structure on the dispersion of lynx in Posumavi Abstract: The big predators are a traditional group of bioindicative species, whose presence shows the state of environment and landscape within a region. As these animals recolonize the cultural landscape of central Europe it's needed to understand their space requirements and habitat preferences. The lynx (Lynx lynx) has been one of the Sumava forest species since the 70's. After almost 40 years the population of lynx has spread from Sumava and Bavarian Forest to forested parts of Cesky Les, Smrcina and Novohradske hory and to both sides of state borders. However today's state of lynx population, stable number of animals or genetic variability is endangered by many factors. Long term viability of the lynx population is - besides poaching or illegal hunting − affected by the loss of suitable habitats and ongoing fragmentation of the landscape. One of the possible solutions of negative impacts is delineation and protection of landscape permeability of habitat corridors. Assessment of landscape fragmentation in relation to long-distance migration

This thesis deals with the fragmentation of the landscape as a result of highway infrastructure and human settlement. The aim is to analyze the current level of fragmentation and permeability of the landscape for large mammals in the region of Moravska Brana, which is a significant migration area between the West Carpathian and Hercynian sub-provinces. The results confirm the increased degree of fragmentation in this area due to the accumulation of several line barriers from the Northeast to the Southwest, and it particularly shows the negative impact of Highway D1. By comparing the degree of fragmentation with supra- regional corridors, this thesis evaluates the Territorial system of ecological stability (TSES) and the habitat model of large carnivores. This thesis shows that the current migration corridors provide only a fragmented landscape with unsuitable habitat. While making a comprehensive analysis of the permeability of the D1 motorway, the effectiveness of the migration corridor between Klimkovice and Dolni Ujezd was evaluated with an emphasis on monitoring the ecoduct of Suchdol nad Odrou, which is used primarily by medium-sized mammals.
