RNDr. Jarmila Robová, CSc. Abstract: This work is an extension of my bachelor work and it is intended for all people interested in regular and semiregular polyhedra geometry. It is a comprehensive text which summarizes brief history, description and classification of regular and semiregular polyhedra. The work contains proofs of Descartes' and Euler's theorems and proofs about number of regular and semiregular polyhedra. It can be also used as a didactic aid in the instruction of regular and semiregular solids at secondary schools. This text is supplemented by illustrative pictures made in GeoGebra and Cabri3D. Keywords: Regular polyhedra, platonic solids, Platon, semiregular polyhedra, Archimedean solids, Archimedes, dulaism, Descartes' theorem, Euler's theorem.
Web application for teaching basic knowledge of mathematics at secondary school
Pavlicová, Vladimíra ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Boček, Leo (referee)
Title: Web application for teaching basic knowledge of mathematics at secondary school Author: Vladimíra Pavlicová Department: Department of Mathematics Education Supervisor: RNDr. Jarmila Robová, CSc. Supervisor's e-mail address: robova@karlin.mff.cuni.cz Abstract: The presented work is intended to serve as a teaching material for pupils of the first year of secondary school, focusing on the basic knowledge of mathematics. Specifically, it deals with the subject matter of powers and polynomials. It is composed of two sub-sections - an educational text, in which the subject matter is clearly explained and illustrated through solved examples, and exercises to practice, which allow pupils to check, eventually improve, their knowledge. Owing to the fact that the work has a form of a web application, the emphasis is placed on interactive elements (for example, step-by-step solutions, multiple choice tests), which increase the attractiveness of the presented curriculum for pupils. Pupils are therefore able to learn and practice the curriculum by enjoyable way. The fact that the application is freely available on the Internet can also increase pupils' interest in it. Keywords: basic knowledge of mathematics, powers, polynomials
Web application for planimetry teaching
Kurka, Štěpán ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Boček, Leo (referee)
This thesis was created as a web site for planimetry teaching. It is addressed mainly to high school students and high school teachers. The web site is divided into two main parts. At first it summaries high school planimetry, mostly triangles, quadrangles, sets of points of certain attribute, and then it contains forty construction exercises. Those exercises involve applets of dynamic geometry, which interactively depend on changeable measures of the exercise. One of the parts of the thesis is an overview through present web sites in Czech, in Slovak, in English and in German language. This thesis is an extension of a bachelor thesis from the same author.
Complex numbers in mathematics education at high school with the help of internet
Šilarová, Lenka ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Pavlíková, Pavla (referee)
The thesis deals with the topic of complex numbers in mathematics education at high schools. It is divided into two parts - rating of already existing web sites concerning complex numbers and creating new ones. In the first part, available sites attended to the topic are described. They are classified according to several chosen criteria. Sites which are interesting or which can enrich education of given problematics at high school are emphasized. Simultaneously, sites which are unsatisfactory are pointed out as well. The second part of the thesis consists of own internet sites regarding complex numbers. Definitions and theorems with proofs are complemented by solved exercises. The sites are dynamic and partially use the possibilities of internet. They contain interactive components in the form of Java-scripts and Java-applets which makes the problematics more accesible.
Web application: Basic knowledge of mathematics at secondary school
Pavlicová, Vladimíra ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Karger, Adolf (referee)
The presented work is intended to serve as a teaching material in particular for pupils of the first year of secondary school, focusing on the basic knowledge of mathematics. The first part of the thesis is devoted to an analysis of existing web page, which corresponds to the theme of the diploma thesis. The evaluation takes into account the expertise as well as the scope of use of interactive elements. In the next part, the created teaching material in a form of web page is presented. It deals with the subject matter of powers, roots, polynomials and rational expressions. In accordance with current trend, the emphasis is put on both visualisation of curriculum (charts, use of graphics) and interactivity. All exercises to practise involve solution, therefore users are allowed to gain immediate feedback and thus to study individually. Web page is free available.
Divisibility for talented students of secondary schools
Živčáková, Andrea ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Bečvář, Jindřich (referee)
This thesis is an educational text for high school students. It aims to teach them how to solve typical problems concerning divisibility found in mathematical correspondence seminars and mathematical olympiad. Basic notions from the theory of divisibility are recalled (e.g. prime numbers, divisors, multiples). Criteria of divisibility by 2 to 20 are introduced, as well as diophantine equations and practical applications of prime numbers in real life. One whole chapter is dedicated to problems and exercises. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Interactive website for teaching of functions at high school
Richter, Jaroslav ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Slavík, Antonín (referee)
The thesis deals with the possibilities of using internet in teaching functions at high school. It is divided in two parts. The available web sites are the topic of the first part. Sites which were found are briefly described and evaluated. This portion concludes with a table providing the evaluation criteria for the sites. The second part of the thesis presents a new function-teaching web site. The features it covers include general function properties, linear function, quadratic function, absolute value function, exponential and logarithmic function, power function and linear rational function. Interactive elements are implemented as JAVA applets. The applets visualize how the particular coefficients affect the graphic course in a rule of function. Every chapter offers a test to check the attained knowledge.
Web application for teaching of higher degree algebraic equations at secondary school
Podhajská, Kristýna ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Odvárko, Oldřich (referee)
Title: Web application for teaching of higher degree algebraic equations at secondary school Author: Kristýna Podhajská Department: Department of Mathematics Education Supervisor: RNDr. Jarmila Robová, CSc. E-mail supervisor: robova@karlin.mff.cuni.cz Abstract: Bachelor thesis is devoted to the subject of algebraic equations of higher degrees. The work should serve mainly as an extension teaching material for secondary school students or as an accompanying textbook for teachers of mathematics in high school seminary. The first part deals with the repetition of polynomials, linear and quadratic equations. The main chapters are cubic, binomial, trinomial and reciprocal equation. For each type of equations is given short theory and solved examples. At the end of each chapter are unresolved tasks and exercises that are designed to verify the acquired knowledge. The work is processed in the form of Web pages that are available on the Internet. It makes the work available to everyone and also allows the use of interactive elements such as GeoGebra applets, solve the tasks step-by-step or hide the solutions.
Teaching of goniometric functions at high school using internet
Motyčková, Marie ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Kašpar, Jan (referee)
The thesis deals with the posibilities of using internet in teaching trigonometry. It is divided into two parts. Already existing web sites are the topic of the first part. Sites which were found are briefly described and classified. At the end of this part, table with criteria used for classification of the sites is stated. Second part of the thesis consists of new web sites concerning trigonometry. Goniometric functions with their graphs, evaluating of values, definitions by unit circle, etc. are included. Interactive elements are implemented as Java applets. Applets are also heavily used for ilustrating trigonometric section of web sites. This section includes trigonometric theorems with proofs and exercises which use them in solutions. Proofs and exercises are supplemented by Java scripts which stepwise reveal help.
