Kubalíková, Lucie ; Drápela, E. ; Bajer, A. ; Zapletalová, D. ; Balková, M. ; Zágoršek, K. ; Kirchner, Karel ; Kuda, František ; Roštínský, Pavel
Geological paths (geopaths, geotrails) represent a type of educational paths that connect sites, which are interesting from the Earth-sciences point of view. These sites (e.g. outcrops, old quarries, historical buildings built of local stone or viewpoints) often represent the links between geodiversity and other phenomena within a region (which is in accordance with a holistic approach to geotourism). Thus, they can give complex information not only about the abiotic nature but also about biodiversity, history or culture of the region, usually through narrative. Suitable interpretation of geodiversity and its relationships to the biodiversity and cultural heritage allows to identify regional specifics, it helps to find the mutual connections between particular phenomena within the region and it supports the holistic perception of a given region. The contribution presents an example from the Brno city where the urban geopath can be used for teaching regional geography of Brno and its surroundings.
The optimization of forest management strategies on slopes affected by landslides and rock falling – a methodology for forest-planting practices

Landslides, as well as rock falling, are among natural disturbances, the origin of which the forest management has only a secondary influence. On the other hand, adequate management can reduce the risk of landslides (rock falling). In some specific cases, it can be expected that this management can also prevent origin of landslides. The basic recommendation in the area of forest cultivation in areas affected by landslides is the creation of forest stands of species, age and thickness (height) differentiated, with a small-scale texture. In some cases it is also possible to recommend the shape of the associated forest. Consistent management of the forest transport network must be an integral part of measures in risk areas.
Cultural functions and services of geodiversity within urban areas (with a special regard on tourism and recreation)
Kubalíková, Lucie ; Bajer, A. ; Drápela, E. ; Zapletalová, D. ; Kirchner, Karel ; Balková, M. ; Zágoršek, K. ; Kuda, František ; Roštínský, Pavel
Geodiversity (or abiotic nature) within urban areas has numerous functions and offers various benefits and services. In addition, it has strong links to cultural heritage and historical aspects and it influences and is influenced by urban development and planning. The geodiversity functions and services can be sorted according to the ecosystem services approach: regulating, supporting, provisioning and cultural services. The last mentioned includes a wide spectrum of aspects (spiritual, religious, historical, archaeological, social, artistic, sense of place etc.) and besides this, it encompasses also the tourist and recreational functions which are (in some cases) unexplored and underestimated in urban areas. The paper presents examples from two different Czech cities – Brno and Liberec. Selected geocultural sites are described and assessed and specific proposals for tourist, recreational and educational use are outlined. The results of evaluation show that they can represent an interesting alternative to the traditional tourist destinations within urban areas.
Support for security report on the NJZ EDU: DP4 – Compex characteristization of the NJZ EDU (considered new production site of the Dukovany nuclear power station)
Prachař, I. ; Daňková, L. ; Mazanec, M. ; Roštínský, Pavel
The final report summarises existing geological and geomorphological research carried out during several recent years for assuring of seismotectonic safety in case of realisation of the considered new production site of the Dukovany nuclear power station. The main fault strutures have been assessed within the ~25 km surroundings of a location of the planned engineering infrastructure, mostly involving the Diendorf – Boskovice Fault and the Třebíč Fault. Based on the results, the zone of the Diendorf – Boskovice Fault including both longitudinal and transverse fault phenomena is considered as only one risk tectonic structure. Detected seismicity in other parts of the study area appears to be of only difuse nature, and correspondingly activity of older faults of the Bohemian Massif therein to be already extinct.
Dukovany nuclear power station: Paleoseismological survey of the NJZ EDU site (DBF), Phase III. DP-6:\nTřebíč Fault – review of archive sources and field recognition. Geomorfological evaluation of the subjected area along the fault structure
Roštínský, Pavel
Geomorphological analysis of selected phenomena along the regionally significant Třebíč Fault system and its E and possible SE continuation in between Třebíč, Náměšť nad Oslavou and Dalešice water reservoir – topographic arrangement, surface inclination, topolineaments, occurrences and settings of fluvial sediments. The study was elaborated requested by the ČEZ corporation (main Czech energetic producer) in connection with the assessment of seismic hazard of significant tectonic structures in a vicinity of nuclear production units.
Geomorphological aspects of the occurrence of moldavites in the central Europe
Halžová, Daniela ; Kalvoda, Jan (advisor) ; Roštínský, Pavel (referee)
GEOMORPHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF THE OCCURRENCE OF MOLDAVITES IN THE CENTRAL EUROPE ABSTRACT: In the presented paper, geomorphological aspects of the occurrence od moldavites are evaluated. The origin od moldavites in the Miocene and position of their main finding places in Czechia is described. For studies and documentation of morphology of the surface of moldavites was used the collection of the Faculty od Science at Charles University. Special attention during field geomorphic servey of finding places of moldavites was attend to the localities between settlements Ločenice, Nesměň and Chlum nad Malší. Main features od the natural environment were identified as well as recent changes of landforms caused by prohibited and legal extraction of moldavites. All notable finding places of moldavites in the southern Bohemia are affected by these anthropogenic changes of the landscape. It is discussed that absence of moldavites in some denuded areas of the region where they are occurring can indicate a range of rocks exhumation since the upper Miocene. On the contrary, it is suggested thah morphostratigraphical significance od sporadic findings of moldavites many kilometres from primary localities is limited by a low resistance of the shape and volume of moldavites in relation to fluvial transport. However, very...
Morphostructural analysis of the Hřibovská hornatina
Stemberk, Jakub ; Štěpančíková, Petra (advisor) ; Roštínský, Pavel (referee)
Morphostructural analysis of the Hřibovská hornatina Mts. This work deals with morphostructure analyses of the Hřibovská hornatina Mts., part of the Rychlebské hory Mts. Northeastern border of the studied area is created by the mountain front slope controlled by the Sudetic Marginal fault, which is one of the most conspicuous tectonic structures in central Europe. This is the main reason why works were focused on the analyses of stream network parameters and spatial distribution of those selected landforms which could potentially indicate recent tectonic activity in the studied area. As a result, supposed courses of faults marked in morphology were suggested. Fault activity assessment was considered on changes in erosion intensity indicated in longitudinal and crosswise profiles of stream valleys. Based on the values of Stream-Length index the areas with recent tectonic activity were delimited. The final output of this work is the morphostructure map of the Hřibovská hornatina Mts. and the adjacent area. Key words: Morphostructural analysis, active tectonics, Sudetic Marginal Fault, Hřibovská hornatina Mts.
