Army and Security: The Role of Czechoslovak Television's Army, Security and Military Ability Department between 1958 and 1990

This diploma thesis deals with the history and functioning of Czechoslovak Television's Army, Security and Military Ability Department in the years 1958-1990. The author first introduces the reader to the historical context and maps the changes that Czechoslovak Television went through in connection with political situation, with an emphasis on the period of the Prague Spring, August 1968, and the subsequent onset of normalization. This part of the thesis also introduces readers to the position of the media in the political mechanism of Czechoslovakia and its interventions in the functioning of the media. The thesis also deals in detail with the Television's Army, Security and Military Ability Department itself, its main tasks, history and contractually secured connection to the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Ministry of Defence. In this part of the thesis, the method of department's financing and organizational structure are also described, including the tasks of employees and the editor-in-chief Miloslav Broumský. This master's thesis focuses on analyzing the media image of two significant political and cultural figures, Mikhail Gorbachev and Queen Elizabeth II. Both figures passed away shortly after each other in 2023. The text describes in detail the lives and political careers of both figures, their impact on the world, and the current perception of their characters. Mikhail Gorbachev is often referred to as the greatest politician of the 20th century. He served as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1985 to 1991 and was also its sole President from 1990 to 1991. He advocated for economic and political changes that led to the democratization of the Soviet Union. In 1990, he even received the Nobel Peace Prize. The figure of Mikhail Gorbachev is still perceived very differently by Russians, the global public, politicians, and the academic community. Gorbachev himself was never fully identified as the architect of the collapse of the Soviet Union. Queen Elizabeth II reigned as the Queen of fifteen independent states known as the Commonwealth realm from 1952 to 2022. Jiří Chalupa and his fairytale world in Czechoslovak and Czech Television

The diploma thesis depicts the personality of Jiří Chalupa and his fairytale work in Czechoslovak and Czech Television. It presents a brief biography of this representative of children's television production and explores his personal style. In addition to the analysis of eight Chalupa's fairy tales, this thesis deals with television fairy tales in general, their transformation and significance. The first part of the study summarizes the theory of the fairy tale from a literary point of view. This is followed by a historical excursion to Czechoslovak and Czech Television with an emphasis on political influence. In a separate chapter, it focuses on television work for children, its representatives, changes and importance. In the next section, attention is shifted to the film and television adapting of fairy tales. The second half of the work is devoted to the life and work of Jiří Chalupa and the analysis of TV fairy tales, made according to his screenplays.

The master thesis is dealing with crime series Malý pitaval z velkého města a Případy 1. oddělení, their analysis and their mutual comparison. It is focused mainly on the plot construction, choice of illustrated criminal offenses, representation of criminalist's work, and characteristics of the environment and main characters. The aim is also to get to know how Czechoslovakian and Czech crime series have changed over the years. It explores a reaction of chosen media around the premiere of the series and audience reviews on the internet website csfd.cz. In case of Malý pitaval z velkého města it focuses on media reaction during the reruns after the year 2000. The theoretical part introduces the main principles of television, mainly seriality, television crime drama as a genre, and summarizes the development of television series in the Czech environment and the formation of crimes series.
Forgotten propaganda. An analysis of the documentary series Kronika našeho života

This diploma thesis focuses on the qualitative analysis of selected episodes of the documentary series Kronika našeho života, which is considered to be one of the greatest propaganda television works at that time of producing. Its forty episodes were originally broadcasted on the first channel of the Czechoslovak Television from April until June 1985. Due to the significant extent of all the episodes, this thesis only focuses on ten. Namely the episodes about the following years: 1945, 1948, 1953, 1956, 1964, 1968, 1969, 1977, 1982 and 1984. The objective of this thesis is to find out which propaganda techniques were used and how they differed in the selected episodes. The analysis works with nine propaganda techniques drawn out by an American sociologist Alfred McClung Lee and maps them in the selected episodes. Furthermore, in order to describe the media image of the series at the time of its broadcasting, the thesis focuses on the analysis of selected Czechoslovakian periodicals. Specifically on the weekly newspaper Týdeník Československá televize and three daily newspapers - Rudé právo, Lidová demokracie and Svobodné slovo. The image of society and propaganda in the normalization TV series Žena za pultem

This bachelor's thesis deals mainly with the comparison of the depiction of society and propaganda in the normalization TV series Žena za pultem. It also deals with the reactions to the series in the media after its premiere and how it differs from the reactions after rerun in 2002. The first part contains basic informations about the series, the circumstances of its creation, informations about the authors and actors. The following theoretical chapter describes the plot in each episode of the series. The third part compares how the serial shop worked and how it actually worked. Here are also the reactions of shop assistents from real shops. The assortment, which was available in the series and which was actually available in the shops in this period, is compared too. The utterances of actors from the series were also used here. Furthermore, the role of women as mothers and employees is analyzed, for comparison was used sociological literature. Next subchapter is about how serial characters spent their free time and how they make use of cultural opportunities, again the serial depiction is compared with reality. The thesis "Popular Music in Television Entertainment in 90's in Czech Republic" is mainly engaged in the development of music show in this period, namely monitors developments of hit-parades Medúza and Eso. The period of 90's can be talk like a top of this kind of shows that have been an integral part of television entertainment. In connection with their development this study also deals with the history of these formats prior to 1989 and with the period context. The complexity of the topic also forms the theoretical basis in which work is about notions of popular culture, mass and consumer culture and globalization. The concept of globalization is closely related to the developement of television programs. Globalization is going through all the basic components of the production of these programs, both music and the television environment itself, and is just a possible consequence of the decline in the popularity of television hit-parades today. Gas chromatography is one of the most modern and most used methods in analytical chemistry. Its variability predetermines it for use in many fields to determine the contents of many different chemicals. The use of gas chromatography (laboratory and field) is still underestimated for biogas technologies. The aim of the work is to in-troduce students to the possibilities of gas chromatography for biogas technologies, to the basics of methodological procedures for individual types of analyzes (research) with the subsequent analysis of selected biogas technologies (practically). The aim ofthe work is to acquire the basic skills of gas chromatography and the possibility of sepa-rate operation of the device. The work is suitable for students of non-chemical discipli-nes. The practical part is particularly demanding for accuracy and cleanliness.
Mother - a TV series that failed. The use of ideology and propaganda in dramatic production

The topic of the diploma thesis is the encoding of an ideological message in normalization series of Czechoslovak Television, specifically in the series Matka (Mother). This nine-part television saga was filmed in 1975 on the occasion of the XV Congress of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, planned for April 1976. Most normalization series had one thing in common - through the story of ordinary people, with whom the viewers could easily identify - they passed to the viewers the attitudes, the system of rules or the interpretation of history seen through the prism of the ruling party. The series Matka also followed this practice, and using the story of a woman - a laundress - showed the development of the labour movement in Bohemia. The theoretical part of the thesis consists of clarifying the concepts - ideology, propaganda and normalization; at the same time, it reflects the history of Czechoslovak Television and its importance as one of the most powerful tools of propaganda in the period of normalization. In this respect, television series, due to the immense popularity with TV viewers, were very effective.
