Analysis of Unemployment in Russia: Spatial Analysis on Russian Regions
Provazník, Jan ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bezhanishvili, Levan (referee)
This thesis analyses the regional labor markets of Russian Federation in terms of unemployment and Okun's law. Using Hodrick-Prescott filter, the potential GRP and natural rate of unemployment are calculated in order to be used for the estimation of Okun's law coefficient (OLC). The analysis reveals variation in OLC between regions as well as significant spatial correlation thereof (measured by Moran's I). For the examination of Okun's convergence, a new method is developed which consists in estimating a time trend in R-squared obtained by estimating Okun's law cross-sectionally, separately for each year. The results indicate that there is no regional Okun's convergence in Russia.

The development of wages will be examined from 2001 to 2013 and salaries from 2004 to 2013. Further for 2013 the indicators are divided into groups according to socio-economic characteristics of employees. Medians of these groups are compared with each other. Furthermore, wage and salary differentiation is examined. The analysed data are obtained from the Average Earnings Information System. This thesis should provide the information about wage and salary situation in the capital city for the reader. It consists of four chapters, where the first two are theoretical and the other two are analytical parts.
Novel roles for the corpus allatum hormone in the cost of sexual interactions in the linden bug Pyrrhocoris apterus
PROVAZNÍK, Jan
The decrease of lifespan by mating is a common, yet poorly understood occurrence. Juvenile hormone (JH) is widely believed to mediate shortened lifespan in insect, caused by mating. In this study we tested the role of JH in the linden bug (Pyrrhocoris apterus) by removal of the corpus allatum gland and thus the JH source. We then proceeded to study the lifespan of mated animals vs. virgin animals. Virgin animals without JH live longer as was expected. The effect on mated animals is however different between males and females. Surprisingly in females, JH seems to lower the cost of mating. In males, on the other hand, the cost of mating seems to be independent on JH levels. Another surprising conclusion is that the level of JH in females affects the lifespan of males that mate with such females.
