The Xenogenesis Trilogy: The Utopian Writing of Octavia E. Butler
Hejna, Magdalena ; Veselá, Pavla (advisor) ; Procházka, Martin (referee)
This thesis analyses the three main characters of Octavia E. Butler's Xenogenesis trilogy - Lilith, Akin, and Jodahs, and studies each book in the trilogy in order to trace utopian elements in Butler's writing. It explores different ideas of what utopia and the utopian is, and, through this, proposes that it is the impulse of change, constant becoming, that constitutes utopian writing. The thesis states that even though Butler herself was skeptical towards the concept of utopia, her work is an example of modern utopian writing - a constant striving towards a better future through the creation of worlds that inspire and call for change. The introduction starts with the main question of the thesis: "Is Butler a utopian writer?" It focuses on the author's own approach towards utopia and her self-distancing from being labelled a utopian writer. The following part is centered on the development of the concept of "utopia" itself. It starts with the first use of the term by Thomas More in 1516, which initiated an understanding of the term as a "better place," then presents different criticisms of utopia, which point to its dystopian nature, and finishes with the modern concepts of utopia that revitalize its potential. The introduction concludes with the brief summary of the planned research on the three...
Objectification and differences of strength and speed in young elite soccer players.
Procházka, Martin ; Malý, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kunzmann, Egon (referee)
Author: Martin Procházka Title: Objectification and differences of strength and speed in young elite soccer players Objective: The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to objectify and compare selected strength and speed abilities in young elite football players of the U16 category at AC Sparta Prague club. A sub-objective of this work is to compare the results within the tested group of players and provide an overall comparison of the measured data. Methods: The research sample consisted of 21 players. Laboratory testing included the diagnosis of body composition, measurement of thigh muscle strength, and testing explosive strength of the lower limbs. Field testing comprised a 5 m, 10 m, and 30 m sprint acceleration test, a 5-0-5 agility test, and a maximal 20 m linear sprint test. Results: The analysis of players showed significant disparities in the strenght of the anterior and posterior thigh muscles. Goalkeepers excelled in tests of explosive strenght in the lower limbs. In measurements of acceleration speed, forwards achieved the best times, while defenders exhibited slower results. Overall, there is a notable variability in the movement abilities of players depending on their positions on the field. Conclusion: The aim of our bachelor thesis was to objectify and compare the strength and speed...
Deviancy of Morality and Self: Egotism and Brutality against the example of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian
Leštachová, Barbora ; Procházka, Martin (advisor) ; Machová, Mariana (referee)
THESIS ABSTRACT The Southern Gothic genre is most profoundly known for its explicit display of extreme violence, brutality, and sinister characters. This thesis offers a comprehensive analysis of Cormac McCarthy's acclaimed novel, Blood Meridian; or, The Evening Redness in the West, examining its relevance to diverse gothic sub-genres and exploring the moral perspective that permeates the narrative. The primary focus of this thesis is to examine the enigmatic character of Judge Holden, seeking to understand the factors that shape his personality and how literary critics have perceived him since the novel's publication. The opening chapter provides a broad overview of the various genres and sub-genres of gothic literature associated with McCarthy's works. It then narrows its focus to Blood Meridian and identifies the genres that critics have most commonly linked to the novel. Specifically delving into Blood Meridian, the first chapter further explores the satanical and theological aspects of Judge Holden's character. It introduces the genre, the novel, and the initial interpretation of the judge as a figure akin to Satan. While this is a conventional classification, it warrants further examination in the broader context of his persona. The second chapter approaches the analysis from a moral standpoint,...
Literary Responses to Migration Myths in Post-World War Two Britain: The 'Windrush Generation' and East European Migration After 2004
Borit, Cornel ; Procházka, Martin (advisor) ; Sommer, Roy (referee) ; Schülting, Sabine (referee)
Literary Responses to Migration Myths in Post-World War Two Britain: The 'Windrush Generation' and East European Migration after 2004 Abstract This thesis examines the negotiation of nativist migration myths in literary texts dealing with two major periods of migration into Britain after the Second World War: Windrush Generation migration between 1948 and the late 1960s and Eastern European migration after 2004. The thesis explores this topic because during the post-war period migration myths have significantly influenced the way many British people think about and relate to migration. The Brexit debate stimulated a substantial production of research on migration myths within social sciences; yet, in literary studies, this theme remains largely unexplored, despite a considerable number of migration literature texts that deal with it. This study explores a corpus of seventeen novels focusing on how they negotiate the function migration myths have in the emergence of nativism in Britain in relation to the two major moments of mass migration mentioned above. It first establishes a typology of migration myths that recurrently appear in nativist discourses of the periods in focus, then literary techniques and strategies are examined to capture, discuss, and question the effects of migration myths on interactions...
Ideological Appropriation: The Tragedy of Coriolanus
Moravec, Jaromír ; Procházka, Martin (advisor) ; Znojemská, Helena (referee)
This master's thesis is concerned with the appropriative and adaptational afterlife of William Shakespeare's play Coriolanus. Particularly with the reasons for and strategies behind appropriative efforts from contradicting ideological movements. Appropriative adaptations of the play appeared already within the first hundred years after Shakespeare's passing with the first being Nahum Tate's The Ingratitude of a Commonwealth which recontextualises Shakespeare's text to support the cause of the Abhorrers during the Exclusion Crisis. Then, less than forty years later, John Dennis wrote his adaptation The Invader of His Country which represents the adapted text as supporting the Whigs in opposition of the Stuarts, who threatened to return on the English Throne with the support of foreign armies. This chapter's analysis seeks to establish the appropriative strategies that allowed single text to be claimed by two opposing political camps. That knowledge is then applied in the next chapter which focuses on the interwar period during which was Shakespeare claimed by a number of contradicting ideologies making their way on the political spectrum in the wake of the fall of a number of Europe's monarchies. This chapter is primarily focused on interpretative texts rather than on dramatic rewrites. These...

Advanced network device scanner
Procházka, Michal ; Blažek, Petr (referee) ; Holasová, Eva (advisor)
The master thesis focuses on problem of identifying device types on a local network. The work explores current methods for device recognition on local networks and examines a survey of open-source tools capable of identifying these devices or gathering additional supplementary information. The discovered tools are compared based on several criteria. Furthermore, a laboratory environment is created for testing the identified tools as well as for testing own implementation. Subsequently, this thesis presents a proposal for the own implementation of a device identification method and the retrieval of advanced information about these devices. The main part of the work focuses on describing several possible methods of device identification, including practical examples. Scripting of the practical examples is implemented in Python or through the command line. Based on the outlined approaches, the thesis presents a list of all recognized devices from the experimental setup. Finally, the methods are compared in terms of network utilization during scanning.
Flight path planning for drone swarms

This bachelor's thesis addresses the issue of planning flight paths for drone swarms with specified safety constrains and with the emphasis on the feasibility of real-world usage. Along with the design of the planning algorithm itself, this thesis also implements an add-on for the 3D environment Blender, which can be used to design a flight mission, verify safety constrains and export the mission itself.
Hydrostatic bearings for wind energetics
Procházka, Michal ; Foltýn, Jan (referee) ; Michalec, Michal (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the bearing of the main rotor shaft of a wind turbine using hydrostatic bearings. Wind turbines come in many designs and the thesis then determine the operating parameters and bearings used in horizontal axis turbines of different installed power outputs. Currently, repairs, as well as servicing of bearings, are very costly and affect the operation of the entire power plant. Hydrostatic bearings offer advantages that could reduce the failure rate of wind turbine bearings. The operating parameters of turbines of different outputs were used to calculate the selected hydrostatic bearings. The results shows that the use of this type of bearings is possible for turbines with different power outputs, but higher efficiency is estimated for larger turbines (for example 8 MW turbine). The energy consumption of bearing, required to drive the hydrostatic bearings, reaches 0,03 % of the total output, compared to 0,39 % for the smaller 55 kW turbine. The calculation has been simplified in the initial energy performance estimation and further steps could include bearing geometry optimization or extending the operating parameter range of the wind turbines.
