The creative class in Prague
Hurtová, Anna ; Ouředníček, Martin (advisor) ; Pospíšilová, Lucie (referee)
Creative Class in Prague Abstract The objective of this thesis is to define the districts of Prague which evince higher ratio of the creative class. Another objective is to identify the reasons of this phenomenon. The research was done by the combination of the quantitative and qualitative approach. The quantitative research consisted of the analysis of the Population and Housing Census 2011 data, the focus of the qualitative part has been structured interviews with the representatives of this creative class who live in Prague 7. This was complemented by the participating observation and informal interviews. The research results showed that the highest ratio of the creative class is in the districts in the central area of Prague and the districts in the adjacent areas. The peripheral districts are exceptions. The reasons of this phenomenon in the studied area are nearness to downtown, the urban nature, and the local community. The target group confirmed that the choice of residence location caused that they had become much less dependent on other districts. Development of public space of non-heterosexual people in Czechia: Prague as a "queer" capital?
Sak, Jan ; Pitoňák, Michal (advisor) ; Pospíšilová, Lucie (referee)
This bachelor's thesis analyses the development of spatial organisation of Czech non- heterosexual people, it offers a study of public socializing possibilities of this group in Prague since the beginning of socialism to the present. Thesis deals with a question of what direction is Prague as the "gay capital" being developed at the present. The research part of the work is based on a secondary geographical content analysis of available literature drawing mainly from data based on so called oral historical method. Carried out research found that the biggest milestone in this development was the year 1989 enabling for rapid growth of non- heterosexuals' socializing possibilities in the 1990s. This rapid development currently produces metropolis of Prague, offering a range of gay and lesbian activities, that able Prague to compete with other big cities in Western Europe. key words: non-heterosexual, homosexual, gay, lesbian, queer, Prague, socialism, public space, heteronormativity
Voicing in German speakers'pronunciation of Czech
Pospíšilová, Lucie ; Machač, Pavel (advisor) ; Martínek, František (referee)
The thesis is concerned with the German speakers' pronunciation of the Czech language, specifically with the issue of the voicing of obstruents. The phonological voicing is realized differently in Czech and German and the assimilation of voicing follows diverse principles. The pronunciation is often underestimated in education. The objective of the thesis is to find out the most frequent mistakes and to propose some improvements for tuition. I have thoroughly analysed 20 read speeches made by German speakers. I have also compared course books from the point of view of pronunciation engagement. The most problematic issue appeared to be the assimilation of voicing on the boundaries of syllables and words. The main contribution of the thesis should be the summary of German speakers' pronunciation difficulties and the materials which can be used for further tuition.
Spatial Aspects of Everyday Life
Pospíšilová, Lucie
The study of everyday life has become a new challenge in contemporary society. Over the last few decades there have been significant changes of temporal and spatial relationships, which now come in many different forms, some of which are relatively new phenomena (e.g. virtual relationships). The society differentiates also socially and culturally. People with different attitudes and values, habits and behaviours, people of different lifestyles meet at one place and encounter everyday lives of others. These facts demonstrate the importance of everyday life research. Everyday life is routine and self-evident for a man or group of people in a given space and time but otherwise it is variable and differentiated phenomenon. New issues arise in the context of contemporary changes that encourage the questioning the definitions of everyday life and also finding new methods of research. The thesis searches for the position of geography in the research of everyday life and thus contributes to the formation of a subdiscipline of geography that is not yet fully developed. Responding to approaches influenced by Time geography, which tend to reduce the daily lives of people on a path through time-space and create models of human behaviour, the thesis tries to "humanize" the path using concepts that reflect the...
Phenomenon of Forest Kindergarten: Case Study - Prague 6
Vostradovská, Barbora ; Jíchová, Jana (advisor) ; Pospíšilová, Lucie (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with forest kindergartens, which represent an alternative to traditional kindergartens and can be seen as a new institutional phenomenon in pre-school education. The topic is grounded in the theoretical framework of time geography and mobility, with emphasis on the concept of constraints. Case study is carried out in the city district of Prague 6 compares the users (parents) of forest kindergartens and traditional kindergartens. It monitors the diversity of spatial daily mobility - commuting and different socio-demographic characteristics of users in both types of institutions. During field research the techniques used for data collection were semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. This case study confirmed differences between users, mainly in the willingness to commute further and their relationship to the environment. Keywords: forest kindergarten - kindergarten - commuting - users - Prague 6
Significance of the timekeeping system for human health
Pospíšilová, Lucie ; Sumová, Alena (advisor) ; Hejnová, Lucie (referee)
The circadian system evolved as an adaptation to cyclic changes in external conditions on Earth, mainly the alternation of light and dark with a period of solar day. The rhythmic signal is generated at the cellular level and it is controlled by rhythmic expression of clock genes and their protein products. In mammals, the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN) are the principal circadian oscillator coordinating daily cycles of physiology and behavior, while in peripheral tissues local oscillators operate. The peripheral oscillators are entrained to the daytime and also among each other, by neuroendocrine signals from the SCN. Mutual synchrony of all the circadian components is necessary for proper function of the organism. The main entraining cue of the circadian system with environment is light, which affect the SCN via retina. In a subgroup of blind people sensing the light in the retina is disturbed and their circadian system cannot be synchronized by light. The SCN controls rhythmic production of melatonin in the pineal gland. This hormone mediates the information about the daytime to other tissues in the body, which are not photosensitive. The circadian system temporally drives many processes, including the cell division cycle. It seems that disruption of the temporal regulation could contribute to...
Spatio-temporal aspects of emerging "edge cities" in Prague metropolitan region
Beneš, Jan ; Pospíšilová, Lucie (advisor) ; Novák, Jakub (referee)
The phenomenon edge city has its roots in U.S. metropolitan areas. Similar urban formations currently also appear in other developed cities. Transformations in post-socialist cities starting in early 90th caused the emergence of new socio-spatial formations in suburban area of Prague metropolitan area. The case study of commercial zone Čestlice-Průhonice shows the newly created cluster of advanced services in Prague suburban area resulting in high concentration of daily population and vehicles. The main aim of this study is to uncover the time dimension of outer-spatial relations of the commercial zone by analyzing the daily rhythm of transportation. The method of direct observation of passing vehicles and its registration numbers is used. Furthermore, it has been proved that the commercial area has a regional significance. In this thesis, new socio-spacial formations in suburban fringe of Prague are ilustrated as an important subject for further geographic research. Keywords: edge city, commercial suburbanization, daily rhythm, transportation
Localization factors of shopping centers: Case study of shopping centers in Prague
Hladík, Zdeněk ; Spilková, Jana (advisor) ; Pospíšilová, Lucie (referee)
Localisation of economic activities is an often debated issue in the expert literature. In particular, the factors determining the location of retail units in such a complex environment, as is the metropolitan Prague, is a very complicated process. Variance of several meters can determine the entire success or failure of the shopping center. Therefore, the first part of this thesis presents and discuss a broad range of studies and methods with different approaches to determine location analysis. The results of this thesis show the efforts of customers to minimize time and effort spent on shopping, which is just a reflection of the proximity and availability of metro station as the main localization factor in Prague's area. However, not only the location, but also the preferences of customers of specific marketing mix and characteristics affect the success of these centers. Key words: shopping center, localisation factors, Prague, metro, availability
