Modern flow visualization techniques
Pištěcká, Kateřina ; Koutník, Tomáš (referee) ; Popela, Robert (advisor)
The subject of this bachelor thesis is an overview of the flow visualization methods applied in the wind tunnels and fly tests. An overview of flow visualization methods is presented in the first part of the work. The particular methods are presented and evaluated with respect of its complexity, requirements on the instrumentation and expanses. The pros and cons are mentioned for each method finally. The second part of the work deals with selection of the flow visualization method suitable for application in the wind tunnel of the Aeronautical department of the VUT Brno.
High performance paraglider aerodynamic optimization
Grim, Robert ; Navrátil, Jan (referee) ; Popela, Robert (advisor)
This thesis is focused on the aerodynamic analysis of the competition paraglider wing. Drags of the particular wing parts are divided into chapters. The aim was to get a grasp of sizes of the individual components drags in relation to the entire assembly. In the first instance, a 2D profile and then the entire configuration of the 3D wing was analyzed. After the evaluation, some power reserves were detected in an airfoil and so the airfoil shape was optimized. After the optimization of the individual components, the CFD calculation was used again. At the end, geometry changes were evaluated.
Small Jet Engine Exhaust Temperature and Velocity Flowfield Analysis
Hradil, Jiří ; Ing.Martin Babák,Ph.D. (referee) ; Popela, Robert (advisor)
The diploma thesis describes search for propriate change of small jet engine exhaust, based on temperature and velocity flowfield analysis in CFD code Fluent V6.
Small UAV parachute recovery system design
Pejchar, Jan ; Jebáček, Ivo (referee) ; Popela, Robert (advisor)
The thesis is focused on the small UAV’s rescue system design. The thesis is divided into related sections reflecting the design process. The first part deals with general problems of parachute equipment. Another part is evaluating critical situations in manual and autonomous control of the airplane. The deceleration device is based on this critical situations as well as the calculated structure loading. Next is the description and evaluation of experiments to verify the performance of modern parachutes. The thesis also includes a simplified proposal ejection mechanism designed in 3D software and documentation of the of model aircraft construction for testing and predicting behaviour in autonomous flight mode.
CFD analysis of turboprop engine air intake
Przeczek, Jan ; Doupník, Petr (referee) ; Popela, Robert (advisor)
This diploma thesis is focused on CFD analysis of M-601 turboprop engine nacelle mounted on L-410 commuter aircraft. Calibrating exercise is performed at the beginning of the thesis in order to be more familiar with CFD problems. Next parts of the thesis are chronologically divided with respect to project progress, namely suitable geometrical model creation, mesh creation in order to obtain computational model, calculation using CFD methods, results evaluation and proposal of possible construction transformation at the conclusion.
CFD analysis of icing effects on commuter aircraft configuration
Zima, Martin ; Navrátil, Jan (referee) ; Popela, Robert (advisor)
The Diploma Thesis concerns investigation of icing effects at L 410 NG aircraft. The aircraft is certified under FAR/CS/AP-23 Commuter category. An analysis was performed for existing Pneumatic De-icing Boots System at the wing area according to three flight configurations and icing conditions referring to document Part 25 Appendix C and O. The analysis was done by CFD solver FENSAP-ICE for various runs with respect to the icing envelope. Cases were assigned as two 2D cross-sections situated at the aircraft’s wing aileron part. Cross-sectional Reynold’s number oscillate between 4.5–8.5×106. Automatic operation of Pneumatic De-icing Boots System was proposed. Attention was paid to the ice accretion aft to the Pneumatic De-icing Boots System. The Appendix (Příloha) P6 contains an English written Article concerning main Diploma Thesis sections.
Aerodynamic analysis and shape optimization of ARES aircraft
Foltýn, Pavel ; Navrátil, Jan (referee) ; Popela, Robert (advisor)
This thesis deals with the aerodynamic analysis and shape modifications of the ARES aircraft. The analysis focuses on the evaluation lift, drag, and pitching moment coefficient, and further to identify the locations of stripping stream which is characterized by high drag. Before the analysis calibration of the CFD solver is done with the model, which has been measured in the wind tunnel. The aim of calibration is to verify the accuracy and veracity of the methodology used in mesh creation and calculated values. Calculated values are compared with measured data. The shape modifications of the aircraft are focused on conceptual design of the suction inlets for cooling radiators and engine aircraft. Aerodynamic analysis is performed with the modified model in order to determine the variation of lift, drag and pitching moment coefficient from its original configuration.
Adjusting mechanism of a small rocket engine for space exploration vehicles
Vrana, Andrej ; Popela, Robert (referee) ; Bartoněk, Jaroslav (advisor)
This bachelor’s thesis deals with designing adjustable gimbal mechanisms used for steering a small rocket engine and their depiction in 3D CAD models. The thesis is divided into two main parts. In the first part, spacecraft used for exploration of celestial bodies are described. All the spacecraft are described in detail, showing their mission phase, their design and technical parameters together with informations about their scientific discoveries, which they provided. The second part describes how rocket engines work with their division into main types and gives examples of rocket engines used in the aerospace industry. Furthermore, means of steering a rocket during flight are described, with also showing various ways of dealing with this issue. Finally, designs of of adjustable gimbal mechanisms are presented, with description of their usability.
Design of folding propeller for UAVs
Dítě, Radovan ; Dvořák, Petr (referee) ; Popela, Robert (advisor)
This master's thesis deals with the design of foldable propeller for UAVs. The design of the foldalble propeller is created based on theory of propellers and also on tha detail ana-lyzis of existing foldalble propellers with similar dimensions. The propeller is then manufac-tured and tested. One of the part of this thesis also describes design of central hub. At the end the methodical procedure of creating foldable propellers is suggested.
Avia BH534 airplane design as ultralight
Kozelský, Martin ; Popela, Robert (referee) ; Juračka, Jaroslav (advisor)
The object of the diploma thesis is a preparation of fundamental bases for realization aerofoils of the replica of the biplane aircraft BH534 Avia. The preambule of the work balances replica against the real historic aircraft. As next the basic aerodynamics characteristics, construction of aerofoils and strenght calculation of the aerofoils are described.
