Philosophical Writings on Art and the Truth
Poláková, Markéta ; Novák, Aleš (advisor) ; Chavalka, Jakub (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to study the subject of art (especially music) and its connection to the truth. The effort is also to determine what is meant by the truth. But all this reveals the real and noble goal of this thesis: to try to capture all the questions that arise in connection with art and the truth and trying to search their proper philosophical answers. All this takes place within Friedrich Nietzsche's early philosophy, with his inspirations: Arthur Schopenhauer (we will touch the influence of Kant's philosophy on Schopenhauer's philosophy, too) and the composer and at certain time Nietzsche's personal friend - Richard Wagner, whose lesser known writings will be also introduced. It turns out that these arising questions touch on such topics as: abstract rationality and language in contrast to artistic creativity and direct experience, subjectivity or objectivity in art, the special nature of philosophy, existential issues, and issues of a higher sense of human life. Key words: music, art, truth, affection, reason, myth, drama, tragedy
Maya Culture in the Perspective of Anthropology of Tourism
Součková, Kristina ; Soukup, Václav (advisor) ; Půtová, Barbora (referee) ; Poláková, Markéta (referee)
My thesis is based on a broader context of theories and categories of tourism and touristic experiences elaborated by authors belonging to a comparatively new subdiscipline of social and cultural anthropology - the anthropology of tourism. I focus on Mexico, the area of my interest and a part of el Mundo Maya (Maya World) through the eyes of tourism categorization of Valene Smith (1989). I specify two distinct (but yet similar) anthropological fields - one being Riviera Maya with fieldwork in Cancún, Tulum and Chichén Itzá and the other one Ruta Maya with fieldwork in San Cristobal de las Casas and the village of Chamula. I focus on the area of a popular beachspot and adjacent Maya ruins as a destination of historical tourism and also on the area of Chiapas highlands with an authentic Maya village which is a popular destination of ethnic or more accurately cultural tourism. My work is about the process of construction of the (English speaking versus Spanish speaking) tourist image of ancient Maya and the Maya of today. The conclusion of my fieldwork helps me illustrate the term monumentalization of the Maya (Canclini, 2005) or inventing the great Maya through touristic artefacts, experience and travellers' guides. Key words Anthropology of tourism, Maya tourism, Tulum, Chichén Itzá, Cancún, San...

Ebelová, Patricie ; Soukup, Václav (advisor) ; Půtová, Barbora (referee) ; Poláková, Markéta (referee)
The main topic of Femme Fatale as a Cultural Construct: The Fatal Womanhood Phenomenon in a Historical and Transcultural Perspective is to describe, compare and interpret "femme fatale" in the context of the belly dancer, geisha and salonnière phenomena. The thesis objective, and subsequently its main research question, is to perform a comparative analysis of femme fatale as a unique cultural construct that is projected into various roles of a woman in an original manner. Special attention is paid to make note of concrete cultural and historical attributes related to the profession, knowledge, skills and social roles of belly dancers, geishas and salonnières. Among secondary objectives, the thesis intends to take an interdisciplinary stance in order to elaborate the problems of emancipation and sexuality in historical attitudes toward women, and to identify fatal womanhood motives in fine arts. Last, but not least, the plan is to study cultural and aesthetic contribution of women regarded as femmes fatales. The thesis consists of four relatively standalone chapters, each of which take different interdisciplinary angles to analyze the fatal womanhood phenomenon. The first chapter, a historical exposé of the thesis, investigates the femme fatale through the eyes of mythology and religion. The second chapter,...

The subject of this thesis is the empirical-theoretical analysis of socio-cultural impact of cultural elements represented by trademarks and brands from the perspective of specific cultural complex. Combination of mentioned cultural elements is examined as participating in creation of relevant symbolic base for human communication in current globalized society having capacity to influence not only consumer decision making process but also general values and cultural patterns.
