Libretti by Lorenzo Da Ponte
Špaček, Jan ; Pelán, Jiří (advisor) ; Žáčková, Magdalena (referee)
The theme of the bachelor thesis is Italian libretti by the poet Lorenzo da Ponte. The thesis is dealing with a bio-bibliographical aspect of the author, analyses of three opera libretti and characteristics of texts written by da Ponte with a brief comparison with the work of the Italian poet and librettist Pietro Metastasio. Italian libretti are divided into three main chapters: Le nozze di Figaro, Il dissoluto punito ossia il don Giovanni and Così fan tutte ossia la scuola degli amanti. In individual parts descriptions are divided into a separate analysis of the above mentioned opera libretti. Introduction of each chapter describes a specific work and circumstances of its creation. A more detailed analysis aims to describe prominent figures and their possible changes in the course of the plot, analyze rhythm in stanzas and identify specific phrases, metaphors and naming. Conclusion of each chapter ends with the most important findings and the potential anomalies, which were discovered during the analysis.

I am going to evaluate their actions and based of this I divide them into several groups according to role that they had occupied. Except of this, in the end, I am going to fine some correlation between women's typology and Verga 's Cykle of Defeated. In theoretical part we define literary stream whose representative is Giovanni Verga, then his four principal veristic Works. I support my statements in based of quotes and paraphrase of secondary literature. In analytical part I am going to introduce each heroine using key moments of their lives. I am going to work by myself to demostrate the biggest possible personal contribution using quotes of primary literature. I confirm my statements using work of Susan Amatangelo called "Figuring Women" subtitled "A Thematic Study of Giovanni Verga's Female Characters", which has influenced me the most. In conclusion I summarize all the knowledge and I divide female characters in universally applied groups.

Conceptualization of mores in 17 th Century French Tragedy
Šuman, Záviš ; Pohorský, Aleš (advisor) ; Pelán, Jiří (referee) ; Kyloušek, Petr (referee)
214 Abstract Conceptualization of Mores in Seventeenth-Century French Tragedy This thesis is devoted to the study of interpretations of how tragic characters should be portrayed ("mores", "ethos", "mœurs") in French seventeenth-century theories on Tragedy. The theoretical writings of Jean Chapelain, La Mesnardière, Pierre Corneille, d'Aubignac, René Le Bossu, Rapin, Saint-Évremond, Jean Racine and André Dacier are examined in detail. Their findings are compared with the Latin and Italian commentaries on how the Aristotelian notion "character" ("éthé", "éthos") ought to be perceived and understood and what its impact is on dramatic action. The main focus is paid to the detailed analysis of very divergent and often incompatible interpretations of the four Aristotelian conditions outlined briefly in Chapter XV of Poetics and on how the French theorists and dramatists responded to Aristotle's requirements. The first condition requires dramatic character to be "good of its kind" ("chrestos", "ethos" "chreston", "ethe chresta"). The detailed study of contemporary criticism draws us to a conclusion that there are schematically two approaches on how the French theorists conceptualized this very elusive criterion. Whereas Chapelain in his Préface à l'Adone explicitely rejects the moral meaning of "chrestos" and thus...
Giorgio Bassani and Ferrara
Hloušková, Šárka ; Flemrová, Alice (advisor) ; Pelán, Jiří (referee)
The subject of this thesis is The Romance of Ferrara which includes the majority of prosaic work of Giorgio Bassani, one of the most outstanding Italian writers of 20th century. The introduction shows historical and social context of the period in which Bassani grew up and that gave rise to his life philosophy. Without this experience he would never have become a writer and his moral obligation to take down all the truth is based on this fact. The jewish origin of Bassani plays also an important role in his oeuvre; the judaism includes a sense of exceptionality and marginalisation at the same time. This ambivalent feeling is characteristic for majority of Bassani's heroes. The central part of the thesis outlines the thematic and stylistic site of The Romance of Ferrara. We will map even the relationship between the narrator and the author himself, between fiction and reality. The last two chapters concern Ferrara, symbology of the space (vertical and horizontal as well) and the location of characters on the stage of this microcosmos. We will follow characters on their way through Ferrara and will study which role different places are playing within the Bassani's work.
