Glycoprotein profile of human ejaculate as a marker of its quality
Pavlová, Hana ; Postlerová, Pavla (advisor) ; Krejčová, Tereza (referee)
Glycoproteins are an indispensable component of the sperm glycocalyx. They arise through the process of co-translational or post-translational modification, so-called glycosylation, during which carbohydrate chains are attached to a peptide chain. Glycoproteins are involved in reproductive processes and their presence is often key to successful fertilization. The degree of glycosylation of glycoproteins is highly variable and is determined by the representation of carbohydrate units in glycans. It has already been found that the degree of glycosylation can be related to the fertility of an individual. The diploma thesis is focused on the comparison of the representation of terminal saccharides, sialic acid and fucose, in the glycoproteins of sperm and seminal plasma of patients with normal and abnormal ejaculate parameters. The total rate of sialylation and fucosylation in the seminal plasma was determined, as well as the rate of sialylation and fucosylation of specifically detected glycoproteins of sperm and seminal plasma. A significant difference was noted only in the detection of total fucosylation of seminal plasma glycoproteins. However, subsequent correlation tests revealed important relationship between the degree of sialylation and fucosylation of glycoproteins and ejaculate parameters,...
Czech Textbooks of Reading at the Elementary Stage for the Deaf - from Century 19 to 21
Pavlová, Hana ; Hudáková, Andrea (advisor) ; Komorná, Marie (referee)
The Bachelor's thesis characterises Czech textbooks of reading at the elementary stage for deaf pupils from the end of 19th century up to the present day. The attention is paid also to the methods of teaching reading, the issue is put into context of methods of educating deaf pupils. The first chapter covers the methods of teaching reading in general and inclusion of these methods in education of deaf pupils. The second chapter is dedicated to the history of teaching the deaf with an emphasis on teaching reading, it outlines the connection between teaching reading, teaching correct articulation and teaching the Czech language in different historical periods. The third part describes textbooks of reading at the elementary stage from a formal and a content point of view as well as the methods used and teaching techniques. The last part of the thesis summarizes general characteristics of textbooks of reading at the elementary stage for the deaf as well as the connection of these books to teaching the Czech language to the deaf pupils.
Methods of sperm selection for human and veterinary assisted reproduction
Pavlová, Hana ; Komrsková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Koubek, Pavel (referee)
Sperm selection is an important process influencing the progress of fertilization and the quality of resulting embryos. Competent sperm cells can be isolated from an ejaculate sample according to different criteria. Standard methods allow for sperm selection based on conventional parameters, particularly motility and density. Using advanced methods, sperm cells are selected according to molecular aspects including for instance membrane charge, presence of specific receptors, molecules indicating ongoing apoptosis, and others. The latter procedures are widely used particularly in human practice. Their use is uneconomical in veterinary practice and standard methods including the centrifugation step in the procedure are primarily used to select the sperm of livestock. Sperm cells of livestock are also often selected according to whether it carries the X or Y chromosome. Thus, the sex of the offspring can be effectively determined in order to increase the efficiency of the production of animal products. This thesis presents the most frequently used methods of sperm selection for the purpose of oocyte fertilization in human and veterinary sectors of assisted reproduction and discusses their impact on the parameters and fertilization potential of isolated cells.
Linguistics terms in mass media (Study of determinologization)
Pavlová, Hana ; Bozděchová, Ivana (advisor) ; Mareš, Petr (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on linguistic terminology in current mass media discourse. The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the occurrences of linguistic terms in the corpus SYN2013PUB and to describe their function, meaning and context and the process of their determinologization. The first part concerns the existing approaches to terms and terminology, the specifics of the linguistics terminology, the function of the terms in the professional style and their use in the journalistic style. Furthermore, the thesis deals with the relations between general lexicon and terminology, terminologization and determinologization. The analysis of the examples indicates, how to follow the determinologization in the texts. The examples are classified according to the indicators of determinologization. These indicators are typical means of journalistic style (which contains terms), journalistic innovation of the collocability, specific ways of explaining the terms and the semantics or formal modifications of the terms. The determinologization is considered an unfinished process, accomplished for diverse corpus occurrences of linguistic terms in various extent.
