Zawisza Czarny of Garbow at the Court of Sigismud of Luxembourg, King of Hungary

- 1 - Abstract: Zawisza Czarny of Garbów was not only among elite warriors and tournament fighters but also among prominent and respected diplomats of his time. His versatile services were used by two significant Central European rulers - Vladislav II Jagiellon and Sigismund of Luxembourg. The aim of this thesis is to explain and characterize the activities of Zawisza of Garbów alongside Sigismund of Luxembourg, a topic that historiography has only addressed in a general manner. The starting point is the results of previous research.. The thesis focuses on the study of sources, especially narrative and documentary ones, as well as their analysis and comparison. Individual episodes from the life of Zawisza of Garbów associated with Sigismund of Luxembourg are placed within the broader context of the political developments in the countries of Central Europe, particularly the Kingdoms of Poland and Hungary, their mutual relations, and the political activities of King Sigismund of Luxembourg. Another aspect of the thesis is dedicated to contemporary social phenomena, such as the phenomenon of chivalry. Last but not least, the thesis attempts to answer the question of the mutual relationship between the ruler and his prominent knight and its reflection in later tradition.
Piotr Skarga and his literary work Kazania Sejmowe

The thesis is primarily focused on the person of the Polish Jesuit preacher Piotr Skarga and his most famous work Kazania Sejmowe, 1597. In the introduction of our thesis we deal with the area of The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth at the turn of 16th and 17th century. We put more detailed emphasis on political and cultural history and we describe life, activities and literary work of Piotr Skarga. In the core of our thesis we analyse the selected parts, elements and themes of the literary work Kazania Sejmowe. Subsequently we compare them with several other central european literary works. The aim of our thesis is to take a closer look at the personality and the literary work that have a firm place in Polish culture and to compere them with other central european literature. Negative depiction of Jewry in slovak literature in the 18th and 19th centuries

The thesis is focused on negative stereotypes of Jews in slovak literature in the 18th and 19th centuries. In the introduction of the thesis, we deal with an ethnic condition in Hungary in the 18th and 19th century, mainly with the Jewish population in the terriroty of today's Slovakia and it's culture and history. In the core of this thesis we focuse on personalities and works of individual authors and anti-jewish elements contained in their work from the beginning of the 18th century to the end of the 19th century. Based on the historical sources, this work denotes negative depiction of the Jews in the slovak literature and analyzes its form, causes and development in the contex with social situation in Hungary.
