Christian Aspects of Palliative Care
Kosourová, Noemi ; Ovečka, Libor (advisor) ; Štica, Petr (referee)
In my work I deal with the issue of palliative care, which includes variables such as illness, pain, suffering and dying. The first part is focused on these facts, which the terminally ill meet in several variations over time, they consider the issues that affect the essence of their lives and are confronted with the reality. I tried to enlarge the general view around the patient and of his problems with the Christian view , ie the possibility to browse the desperate hope that exceeds life and death. For Christians this hope means Jesus Christ .For the patient to receive this hope there is the Christian Church. The second part of this work deals with specific help, such as companionship, which is the work of chaplains and other Christians, whether in volunteer work, or experts in any of the religious establishments. In conclusion, I try to approach the issue of euthanasia, which just highlights the need for human and compassionate palliative care.

Charousová, Hana ; Ovečka, Libor (advisor) ; Ryšková, Mireia (referee)
Masters thesis SOCIAL MISSION OF THE CHURCH AND PROGRAMMING DOCUMENTS OF THE EUROPEAN UNION Hana Charousová Resumé The contemporary world is being led towards total globalization, material development, economic prosperity and technocratic society. The aim of this Masters thesis is to point out that the contemporary world challenges people to maintain human values, support moral and spiritual life and humankind generally. My work focuses on the situation of the Catholic Church and other churches in our society, most of all on their social mission, which comes out of Christian teaching. I want to demonstrate that these churches can and should have a position of value in contemporary, modern, pluralistic society. At the same time, through this thesis, I would like to inspire churches to be more involved in practical aspects of society, especially in social problem-solving. To do this, however, churches need financial backing. For that reason, this thesis will provide practical suggestions for obtaining financial support, for example from European Structural Funds, especially the European Social Fund. Popová, Ludmila ; Ovečka, Libor (advisor) ; Matějek, Jaromír (referee)
POPOVÁ, L. Suicide, Assisted Suicide, Physicians' Responsibility. Prague 2009. Thesis. Charles University in Prague. Catholic Theological Faculty. Department of Theological Ethics and Theology of Spirituality. Supervisor PhDr. Keywords: suicide, assisted suicide, responsibility, physician, patient The thesis first defines the basic terms and then describes suicide from the ethical perspective as a choice between life and death. It also shows the Christian ethics point of view. Then it focuses on the assisted suicide, which ethically relates to the topic, being a choice between life and death - but also contains suffering and pain in peoples' lives, concerning mainly ill people and dying people. Here, Christian ethics point of view is described, as well. Due to the wide scope of the topic, the following chapter specifies the relation physician-patient, looking closely at the amount of their responsibility during the treatment and at the end of the patient's life, comparing the past and present situation. Then there is a chapter on palliative care, which is, in my opinion, the right approach to the physician-patient relation in the contemporary medicine, and also a kind of a solution when discussing euthanasia or assisted suicide issues. On the basis of interviews, the last chapter takes a look at...

The theological reasons for the Church's charity
Daly, Jana ; Ovečka, Libor (advisor) ; Štica, Petr (referee)
The theological reasons for The Church's charity The Roman Catholic Church has three major missions - liturgy, evangelization and deacony. Charity had been given an organised structure in the first century A.D when the apostels chose seven men, the deacons, and so established it indefinitely in church life. The goal of this thesis was to find the origins of the third church mission, charity. The first written part describes charity from its historical point of view. It also introduces several saints who had dedicated their lives to charity, while it focuses on their motivation. To demonstrate the importance of charity work The Orthodox Church is discussed, which is famous for its low ambition in the field of organised help. The second part of the theses interprets the biblical and theological origins of charity. Before closing up with a final chapter, it discusses themes that are connected with this subject. It describes the meaning of love, brotherhood, responsibility and the value of human life. The final chapter arrives at the main point of the subject - the main and only source of neighbourly love - Holy Trinity, God's justice and Image of God in man. KEYWORDS: charity, love, Trinity, Catholic, Orthodox.
