Seniors in the centre of Prague
Dvořáková, Nina ; Temelová, Jana (advisor) ; Ouředníček, Martin (referee)
9 ABSTRACT On long term bases the major economic and governmental institutions are concentrated in the center of Prague. The transformations of political, economical and cultural relations after the communism period emphasize the importance of certain functions. During the past years the center of Prague has changed from residential function to concentration of commercial activities, contacts, management and decision making processes. The attractiveness of city center for tourists, process of commercialization and gentrification are often seen in some parts of the center. These features cause fact that the services are not any more accessible for majority of residents. The services start to focus on business firms, foreign visitors and residents with higher incomes instead of local residents. The residents living in the center of Prague, particularly those with lower incomes and with low space mobility, face the disadvantage. The seniors are one of the disadvantage groups of residents, because they are dependent on basic services and other facilities located within their neighborhood. The availability of basic needs, the quality of public place and the possibility to move in the city without any barriers are important factors that determine quality of life of seniors. The first part of master thesis...

Koloušek, Petr ; Novák, Jakub (advisor) ; Ouředníček, Martin (referee)
New concentrations of job opportunities in the hinterland of Prague Abstract In the past 40-50 years in North America and is currently also in some European regions we can see within the frame of suburbanisation process creation of new centers in the hinterland of the main cities. The development of these nuclei greatly influences the spatial structure of metropolitan areas. The aim of this work is to try to identify new concentrations of job opportunities in Prague hinterland which could be described as indedependent or cutting adrift and in this respect prove certain similarity to the metropolitan regions westward of the Czech Republic. Observation will be mainly applied to the development of the number and structure of job opportunities in the selected villages. These indicators will be helpful to identify the new concentration of jobs in the Prague metropolitan area. Subsequent analysis of commuting to work in selected villages partly answers the question of how the commuting links between elements of the Prague metropolitan area have changed and whether there is a noticeable trend towards the creation of new centers, which would include also non-residential functions, such as significant offer of an employment and services. In the case study of one selected municipality will be subsequently followed up...

Social environment and new suburbanites'problems
Matěková, Věra ; Ouředníček, Martin (advisor) ; Šiftová, Jana (referee)
ABSTRACT. Suburbanization is a process that is connected with political, economic and social changes in our republic after the Velvet Revolution in 1989. New conditions were created for suburban development in the 1990s. At present a lot of geographers pay attention to suburbanization. I have decided to deal with this process because I am a geography teacher and I live in Prague's hinterland, where suburbanization develops most of all. This work deals with the influence of suburbanization on population development in four case localities and in the district of Prague-East. It is focused on problems and consequences connected with suburbanization. The aim is to find out whether new suburbanites are satisfied with the life in suburbium. The work concludes with a discussion about this topic use in geography lessons.
