The Shādhilī Sūfī Order as an integral part of Classical Sunnī Orthodoxy
Dembický, Kristián ; Ostřanský, Bronislav (advisor) ; Ťupek, Pavel (referee)
This thesis studies the self-presentation of the Shādhilī Ṣūfī Order and also defines key terms as "Classical Sunnī Orthodoxy" or "Sufism." The Shādhilī Ṣūfī Order is one of the most widespread and influential Ṣūfī Orders in the world, and among the followers of this order are many very influential scholars of the Classical Sunnī Orthodoxy, which is the dominant form of Sunnī Islām throughout history. Methodologically, the thesis is built on analysis, comparison and interpretation of the collected primary and secondary sources. The hypothesis of this work says that the Shādhilī scholars present their order as an integral part of Classical Sunnī Orthodoxy. This hypothesis was verified through analysis, comparison and interpretation of relevant works of two important Shādhilī scholars - Imām al-Suyūṭī and Shaykh Ali Gomaa - and it was largely proven to be correct. This thesis also discusses the importance and interconnectedness of the classical Islamic religious sciences - such as Theology, Law, Sufism etc.

Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Whom do Muslim female converts trust? Informational sources of young female Muslim converts from Prague and their ways of discovering the new religion
Popovová, Klára ; Ostřanský, Bronislav (advisor) ; Oudová Holcátová, Barbara (referee)
DIPLOMOVÁ PRÁCE Komu věří české konvertitky? Zdroje informací mladých pražských konvertitek k islámu Bc. Klára Popovová English Abstract At present, Islam is a hotly debated issue in the Czech society; however, we still know very little about our own Muslim minority and academic studies only started to focus on it in the last few years. Apart from native Muslims, several hundred converts to Islam live in the Czech Republic. These people discovered their religion as adults and have not been brought up with it. Where do women who have decided to become Muslims look for information and on what basis do they trust their sources? Apart from the above-mentioned questions, this thesis discusses other topics related to conversion of women to Islam, be it their motivation to convert or the response of their families and friends. The main contribution of this thesis consists of original quantitative research in which fifteen young women converts to Islam living in Prague took part. This sample provides an interesting insight into the lives of several Czech Muslim women and also a starting point for further, more complex research. From the respondents' answers, it is evident that the Internet, social networks, and information exchange between Czech Muslim women play an important part. More traditional sources, such as...

Salafi Islam: its ideological sources and interpretations
Ťupek, Pavel ; Kropáček, Luboš (advisor) ; Veselý, Rudolf (referee) ; Ostřanský, Bronislav (referee)
In my dissertation entit1ed "Salafi Islam: lts Ideological Sources and Interpretations" I deal with Salafi Islam in the broader context of Sunni orthodoxy. I trace ideological roots of Salafi Islam to medieval Hanbalism with main stress put on Taqi al-Din Ibn Taymiyya. I deal mainly with two important aspects of his teaching which inf1uenced later development of Salafi thought: Salafi dogma and the question of ziyara. I explain Ibn Taymiyya's position in theology and law in the light of his conception of tawhid. Another crucial thinker of Salafi Islam is Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab. His simplified interpretation of Ibn Taymiyya, as well as his radical socio-religious conceptions strongly inf1uenced and radicalized significant part of Salafi thought. As regards contemporary Salafism, I deal with its different interpretations and inner currents. Stress is put on the crucial question ofDogma and Method in Salafi discourse.

Válková, Eva ; Veselý, Rudolf (advisor) ; Ostřanský, Bronislav (referee)
Music, Singing and Dance in Arab Muslim Society: the View of Religious Authorities and Reality Nowadays The study concerns theoretic and empirical analysis of contemporary Arab Muslims attitudes towards the issue of music, singing and dance performance. The issue is viewed from the perspective of religious authorities in contrast with the view of ordinary Muslims and everyday reality. Firstly, the theoretical part notes down a wide response spectrum on the question of principle: are the above mentioned activities considered as permitted or prohibited in Islam? The points of view are grounded in excerpts of traditional Islamic texts and legal experts' opinions. The next part focuses on the elements of music, singing and dance that can be found in Islamic religious practice as well as the real significance of their role in it. The third and final chapter aspires to show the reality of everyday life in Arab Muslim society. With reference to the first part of the study, it aims to notice the divergence of opinion on this issue. The analysis is based on empirical survey, that notes down opinions and attitudes of a group of selected Arab Muslims. The questionnaire follows the customary methodology of sociological research. The main goal is to find the majority attitude to the performance of music,...
