Zedníková, Mária ; Orvalho, Sandra ; Stanovský, Petr ; Růžička, Marek
In present experiments, DPM was employed in a laboratory-scale bubble column with both coalescent and non-coalescent phase and tested in the pure heterogeneous flow regime.

Dynamics of Shape Oscillations of a Bubble Attached to a Capillary Tip
Vobecká, Lucie ; Vejražka, Jiří ; Orvalho, Sandra ; Zedníková, Mária ; Tihon, Jaroslav
The shape oscillations of a bubble, which is attached to a tip of a capillary tube, are studied experimentally. It is observed that the attachment leads to an appearance of an additional low-frequency mode (denoted as mode 1), when compared to standard theories of oscillations of free bubbles or drops. It is observed that the frequency of mode 1 scales with the bubble size as f ~ D^(-2). The oscillation dynamics of a bubble is strongly influenced if some surface active agent is present in the liquid. Due to interfacial elasticity, the surfactants presence in low concentration increases the oscillation frequency. The decay of oscillations is also faster, probably due to an increase of energy dissipation by Marangoni stresses.
The Accuracy of a Monofiber Optical Probe
Vejražka, Jiří ; Orvalho, Sandra ; Večeř, M. ; Sechet, P. ; Cartellier, A.
In this contribution, the accuracy of optical probe in a bubbly flow is deduced from high-speed imaging of bubble probe interaction. A dimensionless criterion useful for the estimation of the error of indicated void fraction is developed. It is also observed that the probe deformability may significantly decrease the probe accuracy.
Oscillation of a Bubble in Surfactant Solution
Vobecká, Lucie ; Vejražka, Jiří ; Zedníková, Mária ; Orvalho, Sandra ; Tihon, Jaroslav
The decay of shape oscillations of a bubble in solutions of a soluble non-ionic surfactant are studied by means of high-speed imaging. The oscillations are induced by a sudden motion of a capillary, to which the bubble is attached. The bubble then either detaches or remains attached at the capillary. In both cases, the observed bubble shape is decomposed into eigenmodes (Legendre polynomials). The frequency f and the decay time τ of the lowest oscillation mode are evaluated. Their dependences on the surfactant concentration c, on the bubble size and on the bubble age are studied.
Effect of Velocity on the Coalescence of Bubbles
Orvalho, Sandra ; Cachaza, E.M. ; Abadie, T. ; Drahoš, Jiří ; Růžička, Marek
The present work is focused only on the effect of the velocity of approach between the interfaces of two identical bubbles, that are brought into contact in liquids known to be either coalescent (pure water) or non-coalescent (surfactant solutions).
Volumetric Mass Transfer Coefficient and Gas Holdup in Solution of Electrolyte in Different Flow Regimes in Bubble Column
Fialová, Marie ; Orvalho, Sandra ; Zedníková, Mária ; Drahoš, Jiří ; Růžička, Marek
Volumetric mass transfer coefficient, kLaL and gas holdup, εG were measured in distilled water and in solutions of Na2SO4 (both coalescent solutions and solutions with suppressed coalescence), under homogeneous and heterogeneous bubbling conditions in bubble column. Dynamic pressure step method was used for kLaL measurement. The gas holdup, εG was measured by the bed expansion method.

Fialová, Marie ; Orvalho, Sandra ; Zedníková, Mária ; Růžička, Marek ; Drahoš, Jiří
This contribution deals with effect of coalescence on gas holdup and volumetric mass transfer coefficient in bubble column.
Damping of Bubble Shape Oscillations by Surfactants
Vejražka, Jiří ; Orvalho, Sandra ; Vobecká, Lucie ; Zedníková, Mária ; Tihon, Jaroslav
Shape oscillations of a bubble, which are either attached to a capillary tip or freely floating in a liquid, are studied by high speed imaging. The effect of surfactant (alpha-terpineol) on the decay time of oscillations is studied. It is observed that the addition of this surfactant in water leads to an important shortening of the decay time.
