Czechoslovak - Venezuelan Relations in the years 1945 - 1968
Maternová, Simona ; Opatrný, Josef (advisor) ; Binková, Simona (referee)
This work is an analysis of a topic that until now has been practically no research, the relations of Czechoslovakia and Venezuela in the years 1945 - 1968, while this work focuses attention on diplomatic and economic relations, it also considers the influence of domestic politics in these countries, explaining the context of these international relations, specifically of the United States, Soviet union and Cuba. The thesis is primarily based on material from the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Czech Republic and also the National Archive of the Czech Republic. Diplomatic relations between these countries were established in 1929, after the Munich Agreement of 1938, the embassy of Czechoslovakia in Caracas was closed. After World War II. economic relations were re-established. This was really important because the commercial interest of Czechoslovakia helped to establish the diplomatic relations. Diplomatic relations were discontinued by Venezuela in 1952 during the dictatorship of general Marcus Pérez Jiménez. When the dictator was overthrown in 1958, diplomatic relations were gradually re-established, once more through economic relations and finally established in 1968. The development of diplomatic relations were affected by several factors. The first one was domestic...
Biodiversity of the Chile and international cooperation on its protection
Kuncová, Klára ; Vágner, Jiří (advisor) ; Opatrný, Josef (referee)
Biodiversity conservation is one of environmental topics of our times. It's important to use the foreign cooperation to develop the Sustainable Development concept especially for developing countries where the biological variety is the richest. Chile started to take part in the international biodiversity projects in the 1980's and since 1990's is ever more active in this matter. Chile is now being signatary of all main global agreements, free trade agreements where environmental cooperation is stated and cooperates with other countries in the region. Chile, though, has certain problems in fulfilling the obligations implying from the signed agreements. Biggest flaws are found especially in the law abidance control. There is successful multilateral regional cooperation. In order to begin effective bilateral environmental cooperation is first important to resolve the long term arguments especially with Peru and Bolivia. This text brings summary of development and current Chilean biodiversity status in Czech. It also presents documents, multi- and bilateral projects of foreign cooperation which take part in improving Chilean biodiversity situation.
Czech immigration to Chile in the first half of the 20th century
Klímová, Jana ; Opatrný, Josef (advisor) ; Křížová, Markéta (referee)
Czech immigration to Latin America in the 20th century is relatively well-documented phenomena. Nevertheless it still opens up some areas that invites to detailed research. One of them is the Czech emigration to Chile in the first half of the 20th century. Due to the remoteness of the Chilean Republic immigration developed much later compared to the situation in traditional immigration countries that were mainly Argentina and Brazil. We can say it is the marginal area of the Czech migration although it is possible to find even in this small group of immigrants interesting life stories of Czechs that decided to try their luck in distant South America. This thesis aims to introduce main periods of the Czech immigration to Chile in the first half of the 20th century and to describe the life stories of Czechs who have left a significant legacy in Chilean society. Author also intends to focus on motives of choosing Chile as a final destination, Chilean migration policy in the particular periods and also to development of compatriots' activity in the areas of concentration of Czech citizens. Unfortunately there is not much literature related to this issue and that is why author will primarily derive from the archival sources of Chilean or Czechoslovak origin (Archive of the Czech Ministry of Foreign...

Czechs and Slovaks in the international brigades
Začíná stručným nástinem příčin a průběhu španělské občanské války a s ní souvisejících politických a společenských událostí a zvratů. Dále text sleduje postoj tehdejšího Československa (čs. vlády a čs. veřejnosti) vůči španělským událostem, přičemž těžištěm je zde pokus o obecnější charakteristiku čs. interbrigadistů (kapitola 5.2.) - jejich politického smýšlení, sociálního a teritoriálního původu, věku, vzdělání, jejich působení ve španělské válce (čs....
Political and economical context of piracy in the American shores
Frýda, Jiří ; Opatrný, Josef (advisor) ; Baďura, Bohumil (referee)
The story of piracy in Spanish America begins with Treaty of Tordesillas. But its origins laid in the comercial and political rivalry between Spain and European states. However first challengers of Spain's monopoly weren't pirates but more interlopers. Spanish's bullion from Peru and other products from West Indies was according to law exchangeable only for Spanish merchandise and only by Spanish subjects. This state was in the second half of the sixteenth century attacked by attempts of England - one of the rising modern national states. From this point of view the Pirate zone in New world was a important stage of international warfare among European realms-states. Apart off this international turmoil stood, but not too far, rejection of Catholicism by Henry VIII. and later again by Elizabeth I. This issue was in the air for more than fifty years. Not even assaults of Spanish Armada could shut down voices of protestants in England in such twilight. The religious struggle should be considered like one of many episodes which defined the emerging nation states. Centuries of legendizing created myths about Francis Drake and John Hawkins. But for the first time in the Carribean they were more icons of the early modern spirit of enterprise than pirates. Hawkin's trade passion for 'negros' ironically stands in...
Czechoslovak-Chilean relations in the years 1960 - 1990
Terešková, Barbora ; Opatrný, Josef (advisor) ; Binková, Simona (referee)
The topic of this diploma thesis is the Czechoslovak-Chilean diplomatic and business relations in the 1960s - 1990s. Even though I am focussing on the period 1960s - 1990s Sixties, I decided to include in this thesis also the previous periods from 1945, which were in my opinion very important for a greater understanding of the whole topic. Whereas it is impossible to study this topic without any general introduction about the history of the Czechoslovak diplomacy, the first chapter is dedicated to it. The next part of the thesis is focused on the diplomatic and business relationships of the mentioned countries. This part of the thesis is divided into four periods which are determined by specific years, which were critical for the history of the Czechoslovak-Chilean diplomatic relationships. As the Chilean-Czechoslovak institute was hugely important in the history of the Czechoslovak-Chilean relationship, it has been included in this thesis as a separate chapter.
Chile and the Czechoslovak-Chilean relation between 1920-1938
Zourek, Michal ; Nálevka, Vladimír (advisor) ; Opatrný, Josef (referee)
The penetration oj unknown Central European country into the South-American markets had - despite the uneasy beginnings - shown remarkable dynamics . In the twenties the Czechoslovak export had rather experimental character and as late as the year 1927 when the efforts oj its consolidation could be recognized. The external relations between South America and Czechoslovakia were the most intensive after the big economic depression, when in addition to the expanding net oj Embassies other institutions and authorities begun to rise to support the Czechoslovak export. Whereas the share oj Czechoslovakia on the world trade in thirties decreased and the restoration oj its positions by the World War Two was successJul only partially, the situation Jor Czechoslovakia in the South America was different. Thanks to the advertising campaign Czechoslovakia became weU-established brand name and thereJore the number oj contracts increased. As regards to Chile the economic relations were Jrom the South American context atypical. This was caused by the import oj strategie resources such as cop per ad chile saltpetre. The mining and sales were JuUy driven by the Joreign trade capabilities and world prices which proved several times during the twenties and the thirties to be rather Jatal. Chile was not just the...
