Passive hand in Czech sign language

Cílem této bakalářské práce je zjistit, v jakých tvarech ruky a s jakým procentuálním zastoupením se vyskytuje pasivní ruka v českém znakovém jazyce, výsledky porovnat s výsledky pro jiné znakové jazyky (americký, britský, holandský a belgický) a usouvztažnit je s poznatky o nepříznakových/neutrálních tvarech ruky. Kvalitativní i kvantitativní přehled tvarů pasivní ruky vychází z analýzy dvou tištěných slovníků: Všeobecného slovníku českého znakového jazyka A-N (2004), Všeobecného slovníku českého znakového jazyka O-Ž (2005) a Slovníku znaků křesťanských pojmů pro Neslyšící (2001).1 Primárním zdrojem dat je Všeobecný slovník; specializovaný Křesťanský slovník slouží především k verifikaci výsledků. V úvodu bych ráda poděkovala neslyšícím lektorům z Pevnosti a BcA. Nadě Dingové, kteří mi ochotně odpovídali na dotazy ohledně vybraných znaků, Bc. Petru Vysučkovi, jenž figuruje v roli znakujícího modelu na CD, Mgr. Lence Okrouhlíkové za velmi laskavé poskytnutí reprezentativních fotografií tvarů ruky, Šimonu Sedláčkovi za technické zpracování CD a zejména prof. Newborn screening and further care of a child with hearing disability and its family - description of current situation in the Czech Republic

The aim of this thesis is to describe the institutional mechanism by which parents whose children were by neonatal screening suspected as a hearing impaired are currently experiencing. The theoretical part focuses on neonatal hearing screening, its appearance in the Czech Republic and abroad, its history, legislative etc. There are also described possible ways of follow-up care for a child with hearing impairment in the Czech Republic. The practical part is based on interviews with medical staff who performs neonatal hearing screening and mothers of hearing impaired children. The aim was to see how, in practice, works neonatal hearing screening, and also the experiences of parents of hearing impaired children with screening and the care for their child that came after. Information about Psychology and Psychological Diagnostics of Deaf Children in Czech and Foreign Literature

This thesis deals with available information about psychology and psychological diagnostics of deaf children in the Czech and foreign specialized literature. The opening methodological part focuses on characteristic of the literature and on description of how the Czech and English texts were searched and processed. The information in the following part, that deals with processing the publications, are clearly arranged into a bibliographic research. The research of the Czech specialized literature has shown a narrow focus on some psychological topics and a lack of texts dealing with psychological treatment of deaf people in practise. The research of the English expert literature has revealed a bad availability of this literature for Czech readers and a poor interest in translating texts, that focus on psychology and the deaf people.
The expression of negation in Czech sign language

This bachelor thesis is the first material focused on the expression of negation in Czech sign language. It shows the most frequent mediums of manual and non-manual negation excerpted from the recording of natural communications between native deaf speakers, users of Czech sign language. This thesis also presents how to express negation in spoken languages and in some of the foreign sign languages.
The role of boarding schools for the Deaf in the Czech Republic - since 1786 to present days

(in English): This bachelor thesis presents the history and development of institutional care at the Czech boarding schools for the hearing impaired, as well as at the then institutes for the Deaf and dumb from 1786 to present. It describes the regime at these boarding schools, extracurricular activities of the pupils, pedagogical supervision and the schools facilities. The school regime is dealt with according to centuries. The bachelor work also brings up the issue of the Deaf communities, both home and abroad and explores the impact of the boarding schools on the community. The findings are interpreted in the light of individual development of the child staying in a boarding school, namely its impact on child's personality. The work draws data from the specialized past and present bibliography, legislative norms and other relevant documents. The final part of the bachelor thesis presents the results of the findings concerning the issue of hearing impaired children in residential care. They prove that children staying in boarding schools suffer from deprivation which is, furthermore, enhanced in case of deaf children who lack an opportunity to communicate in their mother tongue, i.e. sign language with the peers. They neither have a contact with their surrounding, nor are exposed to every day...
National leaving examination for student with hearing disability

This dissertation introduces readers to the history of leaving exams at schools, which is given to students at the end of their secondary education. The survey portion of this dissertation looks at the existing situation conceming schools for the hearing disabled. The education staff at these secondary schools was polled about their knowledge and opinions of the new state leaving exam. ln addition to describing the current leaving exam, the author of this dissertation further describes the new state leaving exam, which is being prepared by the Discovery Center of Educational Outcomes (CERMAT). The main goal of this dissertation is to discover how the new state leaving exam will accommodate the deaf students who are viewed by CERMA T as having special educational needs. The results and conclusions should be used for additional research in pursuit of reforming the current leaving exams.
Czech and Moravian signs - regional dialect of deaf people

Svoji práci jsem se rozhodla zaměřit na výzkum českého znakového jazyka, konkrétně na znaky Neslyšících 1 , jež se liší ve svém užití podle své regionální odlišnosti. Jinými slovy, na porovnání odlišné artikulace českých a moravských znaků. Proč mě toto téma zaujalo? Hlavním důvodem je nedostatek literatury o slovní zásobě českého znakového jazyka v České republice. Ve slyšící společnosti navíc panuje o znakovém jazyce mnoho mýtů. Jedním z nich je například představa, že Neslyšící se na celém světě dorozumívají prostřednictvím jednoho znakového jazyka. Že existuje jakýsi mezinárodní znakový jazyk. To je ale velký omyl! Neslyšící (podle toho, ve kterém státě žijí) mají své národní znakové jazyky (britský znakový jazyk, americký znakový jazyk, český znakový jazyk, atd.). Jsou to jazyky vizuálně-motorické povahy, které jsou na mluvených národních jazycích nezávislé. Znakové jazyky jsou produkovány pohyby rukou a horní části těla, existují v prostoru a jsou vnímány zrakem. Mají stejné nebo podobné prostředky pro vyjadřování gramatických kategorií (např. mimika, klasifikátory). Liší se pak zejména svojí znakovou zásobou. Vzhledem k tomu, že tedy vykazují podobné povahové rysy, můžeme o nich uvažovat jako o jazycích, které náleží do jedné jazykové rodiny.
Services for deaf, hard of hearing and deafened students at universities in the Czech Republic

The bachelor thesis focuses on the means universities in the Czech Republic use to make studies accessible to students with hearing impairment (students who are deaf, hard of hearing and deafened). The thesis is a survey. The aim is to map the current extent of services (such as interpreting, visualisation, lecture/seminar recording) that support the students in their studies at particular public universities in connection with the contemporary legislation.
Role shifting in Czech Sign Language

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the expression of role shifting in Czech sign language. The goal of the thesis is to describe the mechanisms of expressing role shifting in Czech sign language within our survey and comparing the results with findings from abroad. The principles of work are mostly based on foreign literature and they are compared with Czech sign language. A part of the thesis is a DVD of deaf respondents' recordings who use Czech sign language and which illustrate the way of expressing role shifting in Czech sign language.
