Germany and Irish separatist movement. German-Irish cooperation until establishment of the Irish Free State
Nerad, Filip ; Skřivan, Aleš (advisor) ; Kovář, Martin (referee) ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee)
Attempting to paralyze combat readiness of the Great Britain during the World War I Imperial Germany supported many separatist movements in the British Empire, also Irish secessionists, who decided to utilize the conflict for an uprising against British supremacy over Ireland. Already before World War I the Irish Unionists as well as Nationalists brought guns and ammunition from Germany that should be used in their fight for their interests in the Home Rule controversy. After the war broke out in 1914, organizers of the rising made through German embassy in the United States and revolutionary Irish-American organization Glan na Gael a contact with German government and military authorities that agreed with weapons supply and with forming of an Irish Brigade from the Irish POWs. But Irish rebels, represented in Germany by former diplomat Sir Roger Casement, demanded landing of German troops in Ireland, something that Berlin wasn't ready to fulfill. For the support of the Easter Rising in April 1916 Germans sent 20 000 rifles, ten machine guns and five millions rounds of ammunition that however never reached Irish insurgents. After the suppression of the Dublin unrest negotiations over a new shipment started once again, but because of different opinions of its form it was never realized so as following...

Japan's invasion to China, 1937-1941
Winklerová, Kristina ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee) ; Skřivan, Aleš (advisor)
The Second Sino-Japanese War, which lasted from 1937 to 1945 and which was the result of a long-lasting Japanese penetration into China, is one of the events that influenced the twentieth century in a significant way. The fierce battles took place far from Europe, to which the world's attention was tied at the end of the thirties, yet the conflict between the Chinese and the Japanese profoundly influenced the Second World War, to which it made a certain prelude. The expansionistic tendencies and growing militarism of the Japanese clashed with unexpectedly strong nationalism of the Chinese and a campaign which was planned to last only a few months turned into an exhausting conflict of many years. Eventually, an inconclusive situation and resistance from the Powers led Japan into the Pacific War.
The attitude of the conservative Baldwin government towards the attempts to create the system of collective security in the 1920s
Novotný, Lukáš ; Skřivan, Aleš (advisor) ; Kovář, Martin (referee) ; Moravcová, Dagmar (referee)
The postwar Europe was in a complicated position. It was necessary to create a system of a collective security to prevent events similar to the previous war after a period of terror. After a rejection of the United States of America to join the League of Nations, which would provide a functioning of a new order, Great Britain took over a role of the most important subject in creating of a new security system. The Stanley Baldwin Conservative government held a decisive role during negotiations about two essential concepts of the system of collective security (the Geneva Protocol, the Rhineland Pact) in the first half of the 1920s. The Cabinet primarily refused to ratify a document, on which participated a previous Labour government. It had several reasons: unlimited obligations, compulsory arbitration or automatic sanctions. The Rhineland Pact from October 1925 meant a victory of the socalled moderates within the Conservative Party. It refused both a return to the policy of the splendid isolation and an idea of an exclusion of Germany from international relations. The agreement also embodied an idea, which meant the only possible solution on a field of the collective security for Conservatives - an idea of separate treaties that would include limited obligations of Western Europe only. The result of the...

Novotný, Lukáš ; Dvořáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Cetkovský, Pavel (referee)
The topic of this thesis is reward management and its application in a small-sized IT enterprise. Its goals are to properly document and describe current reward system in the company, evaluate the system and recommend improvements for the system. The first two goals are reached via thorough research of the company through semi-structured interviews, employee satisfaction survey, participant observation and document examination and the last one by applying principles from the current literature and education to the results of the two previous goals. The findings are that the reward system, despite growing organically instead of designed, is relatively effective in some areas, but needs improvement in other areas. The main improvement areas are motivation by contingent pay, communication management and performance management. Relatively well working rewards are especially non-financial reward connected to the work environment and work itself.
