Hydraulic losses of ships depending on surface wettability
Novotná, Markéta ; Fialová, Simona (referee) ; Pochylý, František (advisor)
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to investigate hydraulic losses of ships. It mainly focuses on friction losses, but also pressure drag, wave drag and Kármán vortex street. By experiments drag of ships with different geometry and surfaces and contact angels of water drops on them were measured and compared.
HOUSE ON THE EDGE – Valašské Meziříčí, Sokolská Street
Novotná, Markéta ; Kratochvíl, Jan (referee) ; Kopáčik, Gabriel (advisor)
Main idea of the project is based on two part division of the mass. First part works as an parking house, second part works as an polyfunctional house. Parking house is designed as an automatic aboveground parking system(APS) with 91 parking places. APS is attached to the exposed wall of the existing building which is next to the plot. The mass of the polyfunctional house is fragmented at the upper part into smaller parts - dwellings. The shape of the houses is inspired by archetype houses in the historical centre of the Valašské Meziříčí town.
Academic Square - Faculty of Fine Arts
Novotná, Markéta ; Kyselka,, Mojmír (referee) ; Nový, Alois (advisor)
The final thesis is focused on a design of architectural study of a Faculty of fine arts on the area, which is located on a border of two Brno districts Veveří and Žabovřesky. The chosen area is determined by Šumavská Street, Bulínova Street, and Veveří Street. The design follows an already processed part of the project from the first semester in the subject TG02. It is focused on the layout of the buildings in the area and the design of architectonical study for three out of four units – the Faculty of Forensic Engineering, common premises of both faculties and underground garages. The fourth unit, which is the Faculty of Fine Arts, is designed in the second phase as the final thesis. Other units are developed together with the design of the second faculty. The architectonical concept follows the city structure in the nearest surroundings. The main idea was to create a cluster of buildings which respects a human scale, not to create a long endless facades and gigantic masses of buildings. The solution is two L-shaped buildings, which grip the building of common premises. It creates a lot of semipublic and public spaces with a great variety of various functions.
Transformations of historical city centres due to touristification within the context of the pandemic of covid-19: The case study of the Royal Way in Prague
Neuman, Marek ; Fialová, Dana (advisor) ; Novotná, Markéta (referee)
The goal of the thesis is to analyse the touristification of the historical centre of Prague within the context of the pandemic covid-19. Due to the high concentration of tourists and the long-term research in this area, the case study of the Royal Way in Prague was chosen. The Royal Way connects the most known and beautiful monuments in Prague. Therefore, it was significantly changed by tourism since the 1990s. Most of the stores were adapted to tourism. At the same time, the revitalization of historical buildings occurred. The pandemic covid-19 was the event which subdued tourism for over 2 years. Hence, the question arose of how the situation would affect the ongoing touristification of the Royal Way. That was the goal of the study. Hence, the analysis of the functional environment on the Royal Way before (the summer of 2015), during (the summer of 2020 and 2021) and after (the summer of 2022) the pandemic was executed. To explain the development path dependency concept was chosen. The thesis is divided into 3 parts. The first part introduces world and Czech academic literature on the tourism development in cities under the terms overtourism and touristification. The second chapter represents methods of the research, likewise delimitation of the area for the case study. The third chapter...
Impact of air vessel resistance on water hammer
Novotná, Markéta ; Habán, Vladimír (referee) ; Himr, Daniel (advisor)
The thesis deals with the effect of an air vessel on water hammer, with special accent on the resistance of the air vessel connection and its effect on water hammer damping. The thesis describes the methods of water hammer protection, the possibilities of numerical solution of water hammer, as well as technical applications that use hydraulic shock. One chapter is focused on the hydraulic losses that define the resistance of the air vessel connection. For the model example, a numerical model was made using the method of characteristics, which was then compared with experiment and modified to describe the real process as accurately as possible. Therefore, some of the numerical model inputs were also determined experimentally.
Overtourism and its impacts on residents of Prague 1
Chotovinská, Michaela ; Fialová, Dana (advisor) ; Novotná, Markéta (referee)
Title: Overtourism and its impacts on residents of Prague 1 Abstract: This thesis focuses on impacts of overtourism on residents of Prague 1. In theoretical part it discusses overtourism and its causes, which are related to, for example, the theory of the carrying capacity or the tourism area life cycle. The thesis also emphasizes aspects related to overtourism, such as urban tourism, quality of life or sustainable tourism, from which it draws suggestions for solutions to overtourism. The paper also presents the development of tourism in Prague with a focus on the years 2012-2021 and the strategies of the stakeholders who manage tourism in Prague. The theoretical part of the thesis is followed by primary research, which was designed through semi-structured interviews with 12 residents of Prague district 1. The individual areas of the interviews focused on the residents' attitudes towards tourism in Prague district 1, the residents' attitudes towards tourists, the residents' view of the quality of life in Prague district 1, and the residents' wishes for further development of tourism in Prague 1, including improving the quality of life in this area. The main objective of this paper is to assess the impact of overtourism on residents as a reflection of their responses. The results of the interviews were...
Cultural identity of Japanese immigrants to USA
Novotná, Markéta ; Sýkora, Jan (advisor) ; Labus, David (referee)
(in English): The aim of this thesis is to define the extent and form of preservation of cultural identity and the form of adaptation in the case of Japanese emigrants and their descendants in the USA. In the first part, the thesis presents general information about culture, ethnicity and cultural identity in the context of globalisation and migration. The second part is focused on the Japanese emigrants. Introduction of their ethnicity and identity in general is followed by chronological description of Japanese immigration to the USA and of the differences in adaptation depending on social, political and economical conditions. Also mentioned are the specific Japanese cultural patterns that had the biggest influence on Japanese American adaptation - group orientation and cultural relativism. Due to the fact that Japanese immigration is not homogenous, I decided to focus on the adaptation process and change of the identity of Japanese Americans in the area of Little Tokyo, Los Angeles and its cultural festival Nisei Week. Keywords (anglicky): Cultural identity, migration, Japanese emigration, Japanese American, Little Tokyo
