Havelková, Anna ; Nováková, Olga (advisor) ; Sládková, Petra (referee)
Name of thesis: Occupational therapy approaches in patietns with chronic pain focusing on fibromyalgia Aim: The aim of my thesis is to find out whether occupational therapy has something to offer patients with fibormyalgia, as well as the determination of the individual problem areas of these patients, in particular from the perspective of occupational therapy and designing specific therapy approaches. Method: In the theoretical part I focus on the summary of the information from the available literature on pain in general and also on the latest findings in the field of diagnosis and treatment of fibromyalgia. In the practical part I focus on three patients suffering from fibromyalgia. The necessary information to determine the individual problem areas I gained by using the methods of qualitative research, using structured interview and therapeutic examination. Results: Based on studying of literature and the implementation of my exploratory investigation I came to the conclusion that Occupational therapy in these patients is very essential part of the healing process. Key words: Pain, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, occupational therapy approaches
The effect of maternal diabetes on embryonic cardiovascular development and fetal programing
Čerychová, Radka ; Pavlínková, Gabriela (advisor) ; Nováková, Olga (referee) ; Neckář, Jan (referee)
Maternal diabetes mellitus negatively affects embryonic development and increases the risk for congenital malformations. Besides direct teratogenicity, diabetic intrauterine milieu can predispose an individual to chronic diseases later in life, including cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and diabetes mellitus, in a process termed fetal programing. Molecular mechanisms of embryonic and fetal responses to maternal diabetes are still not fully elucidated. Using mouse model, we show that maternal diabetes induces gene expression changes in the hearts of developing embryos. The most significant changes in the expression of 11 selected genes were detected at the developmental stage associated with completion of cardiac septation, myocardial mass expansion, and increased insulin production in the embryonic pancreas. These affected genes encode products involved in the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, a crucial process in heart development. Using immunohistochemistry, we detected increased hypoxia in the diabetes-exposed hearts at the critical stage of cardiac development. Correspondingly to increased hypoxia, the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor A was increased in the heart of diabetes-exposed embryos. Based on our results indicating the...

Krylová, Adéla ; Vítová, Veronika (advisor) ; Nováková, Olga (referee)
Summary: Goals - The purpose of this work is to introduce the Canadian standardized assessment - Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS) to specialists. The test evaluate motor development of infants from birth to the eighteen months of age. Theoretical part - In this part I have summarized the need of standardized assessment for occupational therapists and the importance of early intervention for infants to one year age. The next chapter is about psychomotor development of newborn and infant. The main part is devoted to informations about the assessment AIMS. The last part is dealt with an overview of methods used in the pediatric occupational therapy. Practical part - I used AIMS assessment in practice and then in the form of case study, I have put the results of my testing with practical proposals for occupational therapy intervention.
