Railway Crossings

This bachelor thesis is focused on the railway crossings problem from the point of meaning of all available legislation. In this work I tried to find out whether all available legislative resources for railway crossings design are identical in their interpretation, as ambiguity of these resources could confuse drivers of vehicles and lead to the big number of traffic accidents. To solve this problem I analyzed all available legislative resources. I determined the most important chapters which context might be interpreted in a different way. Furthermore, I investigated which specific legislative resources deal with the problem and then compared it individually. By completion of this work I figured out that the most important chapters of existing legislative resources don’t contain ambiguity in railway crossing design.

Study of Tram Track in the Veveří Street

This thesis deals with the relocation of the tram line No. 12 from Kounicova to Veveří Street in Brno city. The No. 12 line will run together with lines No. 3 and No. 11. The proposed line is run in the local communications area. At the intersection of Veveří with Pod Kaštany Street, line No. 12 will be disconnected using the tram triangle, then it will run along Pod Kaštany and Šumavská Streets to Kounicova Street, where it will be reconnected to the original line and with the help of another tram triangle there will be a possibility to continue by the planned track along Šumavská Street. The goal of this thesis is to propose a design of tram superstructure construction, provide a solution for surrounding roads and propose the location of stops, including access to them.

Human and Machine Translation of Children's Literature: Quality Assessment of Translations from German into Czech

This thesis deals with quality assessment of machine and human translation of children's and young people's literature from German into Czech. The subject of the thesis is the translation quality assessment of selected excerpts from the book Die unendliche Geschichte (1979) by German writer Michael Ende. The aim is to compare outputs from three machine translation systems (DeepL, Google Translate and CUBBITT) with one another and with translations by Milada Misárková (1987) and Eva Pátková (2001). The theoretical part deals first with the original text and its published Czech translations, then with the history and current state of machine translation, selected machine translation systems, the definition of translation quality and quality assessment of machine translation. The empirical part of the thesis consists of a translatological analysis of three excerpts and of a manual assessment of these passages provided by annotators from among the students of the Institute of Translation Studies FF UK.

Absence of Rites of passage in liminal situations

This dissertation seeks to evaluate the absence of rites of passage in the context of indi-viduals´ marginal life situations. The aim of this research is to describe rites of passage and to highlight its importance in the contemporary age. Furthermore, it proposes an implementation of rites of passage in the area of social work due to its potential to aid in dealing with difficult life situations. For example, it can be used as a tool in group the-rapy for people with substance use disorder diagnosis, in social work with terminally ill patients or the bereaved dealing with grief. In addition to that, it is also a useful tool for the work woth adolescents going through multiple life changes. Conclusively, this dis-sertation proposes the rite of passage as a valuable tool for social work with many groups of people, and also seeks to encourage other social areas and individuals to im-plement rite of passage in their daily life.

Morphological and syntactic characteristics of expression sto (hundred), tisíc (thousand), milion (milion) and miliarda (bilion)

The presented thesis aims to provide an analysis of morphological and syntactical characteristics of expressions sto "a hundred", tisíc "a thousand", milion "a million" and miliarda "a billion". The first part deals with the description and characteristics of numerals in specialized literature, with focus on the explored expressions, and it then proceeds to define the research questions (e. g. to what extent are the forms frozen; forms of the noun denoting the counted object (JPP) etc.), which are then explored in the practical part, using corpus analysis. The data used in the analysis are taken from the SYN v8, ORAL v1 and ORTOFON v2 corpus. The analysed sample contains 1 000 of the sto lemmas and the same number of the tisíc lemmas. For the expressions milion and miliarda, the analysed sample was half as large. The analysis showed that the range of numeral and substantive characteristics of the expressions varies: the expression sto "a hundred", has the most prominent numeral characteristics: a high degree of constancy of form (e.g., do sta korun "within one hundred crowns", do sto čtyřiceti mil "within one hundred and forty miles", na dvě stě kilometrech "at two hundred kilometres"), a predominant adjectival congruence of numeral (e.g., bylo tam osm set lidí "there were eight hundred people")...

Transformation of radio broadcasting in Pardubice after 1989 (in relation to Radio Profil)

The goal of this work is to describe (on the basis of archival sources, topical newspapers and magazines, legal enactments and interviews with personal observers) the emergence of the first private radio station in Eastern Bohemia in the beginning of nineties. This is seen as an example of wider transformation processes within the whole Czech media area. The state owned and controlled electronic media were substituted by private (mostly commercial) media and the statutory public-service broadcaster.

Resource sharing in clonal plants - a review of labelling studies

Clonal plants are characterised by their ability to reproduce without sexual reproduction. This is done by the formation of daughter rhizomes or ramets. By maintaining a functional link between them, ramets can share information and resources. The effect of sharing on the growth of clonal plants by sharing can be investigated using biomass experiments. To follow the movement of substances in more detail, labelled substances are used. I will discuss the work on tagging substances and recording their translocation in this thesis. These are carbon, water, nitrogen, phosphorus and calcium. The translocation of substances appears in many cases to be in the direction from the parent ramet to the daughter ramet, but there are plants translocating in the opposite direction. This is influenced by many factors such as plant species, anatomical structure, the age of the ramets and their current needs, as well as abiotic factors and the mobility of the particular element. Water as a carrier medium for minerals may also indicate some dependence of one on the other during translocation. In the future, it would be useful to add comprehensive information on sharing in individual species. Information on how sharing changes during ontogeny, multi-element clonal fragments and tracking of multiple elements in a plant...

Oral care of patients with intermaxillary fixation

Title: Oral care of patients with intermaxillary fixation The bachelor's thesis deals with various types of intermaxillary fixations (IMF) from the point of view of a dental hygienist. It focuses on their advantages and disadvantages in regard to the implementation of dental aids. The thesis is enriched with by its own practical investigation of the state of oral care in patients with IMF and a comprehensive view of the orthognathic patient during their course of IMF treatment. The result is practical leaflets, designed to simplify the selection of the right aids for a given type of fixation ensuring optimal care, for patients and maxillofacial surgeons.
