Acceptance of pain and quality of life of pacients with chronic pain
Lukšicová, Terézia ; Niederlová, Markéta (advisor) ; Novák, Ondřej (referee)
The bachelor's thesis focuses on findings about acceptance of chronic pain and its influence on patients' life quality. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first formal part defines basic terminology and describes potential issues connected to experiencing chronic pain, its main component clarifies the concept of chronic pain's acceptance from the viewpoint presented over the past thirty years. This part also introduces the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - ACT, as one of the therapeutic options enabling the increase of acceptance of pain by patients. The empirical part ofthe thesis resumes the first part and suggests a research project evolving the findings of the initial formal synopsis. The reasearch is a correlational study surveying the impact of ACT on the acceptance of pain. The study monitors possible improvement in other areas too, specifically when it comes to depression, anxiety, intensity of pain and improving overall quality of life uttermost. The research projects works with the CPAQ questionairre which goal it is to get conducted on Czech population and support establishing norms. Key words: Chronic pain, Pain acceptance, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Quality of life
Cognitive disorders in seniors, their screening and self-administered method

This bachelor thesis focuses on problems of cognitive disorders in the elderly, their diagnostic and screening methods. Diagnostic units describes within the scope of the neuropsychological profile, including interdisciplinary overlaps, which are essential for their differentiation. It gives an overview of the most widely used screening tests, which are critically analyzed. An important part of the work is introducing and informing about tests with the minimum need for administration. The theoretical part is concluded with a reference to a processed case report that applies theoretical knowledge into clinical practice. A research project follows the previous theoretical chapters and proposes the adaptation and validation of the selected screening self- administered test.
The Effect of Meditation Techniques on Selected Cognitive Functions
Kosík, Petr ; Stehlík, Luděk (advisor) ; Novák, Ondřej (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the effect of one selected type of meditation, namely mindfulness meditation, on attention as one category of cognitive functions. The theoretical part of the thesis provides characterization of the mindfulness type of meditation in comparison to the concentrative type of meditation. Then, it discusses the construct of mindfulness and its various conceptualizations in Western research literature and also concerns its original conception in the Buddhist religious context. Alongside this, it provides information about possible conceptualizations of meditative cultivation of mindfulness and about selected clinical programs including mindfulness meditation as one of their intervention tools. Thereafter, it presents classification of individual domains of attention used in current literature and outlines possible ways of their operationalization. The very core of the first part of the thesis comprises a summary of current findings about the influence of mindfulness meditation on selected attentional domains and a reflection of the limitations of current studies. The second part of the thesis proposes an experimental research project, which would examine the efficiency of mindfulness meditation, compared with concentrative meditation, with regard to their effect on selected...
Intrapsychic conflicts and their experiencing during the regulation of activity and behavior
Ondrejková, Marta ; Stehlík, Luděk (advisor) ; Novák, Ondřej (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines internal conflicts and their effect on inner experience and behaviour. The theoretical part of the thesis involves the description of the basic characteristics of conflict based on their content and categorisation; emotional, cognitive and behavioural components that contribute towards the creation of conflict; the dynamics of conflict and the possibilities of the regulation of the resulting tension. The goals of our work are to depict the impact of the internal conflict on the human mind and to identify the various approaches to conflict resolution. We have suggested dividing the intervention techniques into two main categories -direct and indirect techniques. In the empirical part of the thesis, we compare the effectiveness of such techniques in a form of an experiment. The participants are divided into the experimental groups according to the intervention technique applied. The measurements before and after the intervention will be evaluated with regards to the extension and severity of the internal conflict. Key words: Internal conflict - emotions - cognitive processes - behaviour - emotion regulation
Psychological methods and activation programs for patients with dementia
Chvojková, Iveta ; Šivicová, Gabriela (advisor) ; Novák, Ondřej (referee)
Non-pharmacological treatment in the form of activation programs has the potential to slow down the progression of the syndrome and thereby enhance the quality of the remaining life of individuals suffering from dementia. The overview of literature is mainly focused on clinical symptoms to which the activation programs aim. Psychological aspects, which are inseparably linked to this topic, are not neglected in this paper. The core of this paper is the chapter consisting of several selected activation programs focusing on clinical efficacy in caring of patients with the diagnosis of dementia. The main goal of this thesis is to verificate the treatment efficacy. In the emperical part there is the proposal of replication research, which ought to varificate the efficacy of activation programs with the main focus on PBSD.
Visual Memory - its capacity and fidelity
Černá, Kristýna ; Lukavský, Jiří (advisor) ; Novák, Ondřej (referee)
Visual short-term memory and visual long-term memory are two memory systems which differ in storage capacity. The latest research on short-term visual memory indicates that it uses a limited capacity source which is being unequally re-allocated between the stored items. The fidelity of memory recall concerning a specific item improves with the increase of the allocated source capacity. Because early research on visual long-term memory suggests that its capacity is almost unlimited, newer studies focus on the fidelity of preserved memories. Visual memory capacity, be it about short-term or long-term memory, is defined by both the number of stored memories and their fidelity. The thesis presents a literature review systemizing research on visual memory capacity. It describes the visual memory systems, characterizes the formation of a visual representation, and discusses the principles of remembering details of visual scenes and the memorability of pictures. The empirical part includes a research design focusing on remembering details from different specific central parts of a picture.
Influence of barefoot shoes on foot shape and subjective feelings of probands
Novák, Ondřej ; Vařeková, Jitka (advisor) ; Nováková, Pavlína (referee)
Title: Influence of barefoot shoes on foot shape and subjective feelings of probands Objectives: The aim of the work was to find out if switching from conventional footwear to barefoot shoes would lead to shape changes in the foot. It was also investigated how proband will evaluate the change of footwear and whether there will be pain during the intervention. Last but not least, attention was paid to intra-individual and gender differences in responses to change. Methods: The non-randomized research group consisted of 9 volunteers (5 women, 4 males with average age 33.5 years). These individuals voluntarily and independently of the research survey decided to change from a common shoe to a barefoot. The research lasted for 3 months, during which the subjects surveyed recorded their subjective feelings. According to the research design, one group before and after the objective measurements of the shape characteristics of the feet using the DomeScan IVB software were made at the beginning and at the end of the research. The results were statistically processed using Excel and converted into graphical form. The questionnaire survey consisted of an introductory, regular weekly and final form. Results: Feet changes were made in the probands, but they were not statistically significant. Participants rated...
Relationship between forced vital capacity and hand grip strength in children
Novák, Ondřej ; Šteffl, Michal (advisor) ; Petr, Miroslav (referee)
Title: Relationship between forced vital capacity and hand grip strength in children Objectives: One of goals of this thesis is to find out how strong is the connection between the strength of a children's handgrip and the FVC. Another aim is to ascertain what is the age limit to use a handgrip examination to estimate the children's FVC. The last goal is to determine whether a body height, weight and age of a child are crucial to evaluate the handgrip and the FVC. Methods: First part of this thesis is a research and tries to summarize basic information about an issue of dynamometry, spirometry and to characterize each of age brackets which are the main aim of this thesis. Second part of this work is a survey for which data from sport festivals for children and youth were assembled. This data were statistically processed to calculate correlation and to make graphs showing linear regression between observed variables (handgrip and FVC), finally the results were interpreted. Results: Between the handgrip and the FVC was proven a strong correlation (girls , boys ). It is possible to evaluate FVC with younger school age children from the value of handgrip's strenght. Values of strenght of a handgrip are strongly influenced by body length, weight and age of a child. Keywords: strenght of a handgrip, FVC,...
