Viktor Cabadaj: an analysis of a movie character
Novák, Karel ; Rosenfeldová, Jana (advisor) ; Šuhajová, Klára (referee)
Viktor Cabadaj is one of the most memorable, even legendary movie characters of the Czech popular culture, who has entertained whole generations of audiences. However, no one asked yet, what is the real reason, that he attracts and fascinates people? By combining the scientific method of content analysis and Richard Dyer's theory of signs of a movie character, it was revealed in our case study, what is Viktor Cabaj's movie character like. From the research of the movie "Sněženky a machři" (Snowdrops and Aces) (1982), a massive amount of both qualitative and quantitative data was obtained, and an analysis and interpretation of this data was made. The results of this research proved, that Cabadaj is the main star of the movie, a person who fascinates people, an eternal leader, the main and funny organizer of events. His true nature is discovered by examining his relationships, his position in the social structure, his actions, his speech, speech of others, his objective correlatives, appearance, gestures, meaning of his name, audience foreknowledge, and mise-en-scene. The most important information about the object of the research seems to be his dualism. He manages to enter into the minds of his social vicinity and film spectators, by combining obvious mastery in the game of power, and apparent...
Electrophysiological Models of Seizure like Activity for NO Detection in Vitro
Novák, Karel ; Otáhal, Jakub (advisor) ; Konopková, Renata (referee)
Definition of work: Electrophysiological models of seizure like activity for NO detection in vitro Supervisor: MUDr. Jakub Otáhal, PhD. Department of Anatomy and Biomechanics FTVS CUNI Department of Developmental Epileptology CAS, Institute of Physiology Consultant: Mgr. Renata Konopková Department of Developmental Epileptology CAS, Institute of Physiology Aim: The aim of the thesis is to introduce nitric oxide (NO) and its role in physiology and pathophysiolgy of central nervous system (CNS), with the intention of epileptiform activity in the nervous tissue. Our research was realized on rat hippocampal slices in vitro and it compares the experimental biochemical models (low-Mg2+ , high-K+ , Carbachol, Bicuculline and 4-Aminopyridine model). These changes in the environment of slice should evoke the epileptiform activity in the nervous tissue of the rat. The final aim of the thesis is to create an experimental model of epileptiform activity in vitro in our setup for imaging techniques and NO detection. Methods: Experiments were performed in rat hippocampal slices in vitro. Rats were deeply anaesthetized with ether and decapitated. Brain was rapidly removed from the scull, cut in oxygenated (95%) and cooled (0, 5 řC) artificial cerebrospinal fluid (ACSF) using vibratome in coronal slices of 400µm of...
Adaptive evolution of Toll-like receptors in birds
Velová, Hana ; Vinkler, Michal (advisor) ; Elleder, Daniel (referee) ; Novák, Karel (referee)
Adaptive evolution of Toll-like receptors in birds Hana Velová, PhD thesis 6 Abstract Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are one of the key and presumably also evolutionary most original components of animal immune system. As Pattern recognition receptors they form the first line of innate immune defence against various pathogens. The proper receptor binding of pathogenic ligands is crucial for their correct recognition and for subsequent triggering of an appropriate immune response. Because there exists a direct interaction between the receptor surface and the pathogenic ligand, host-pathogen coevolution on molecular level can be predicted. Thus, through variability of their ligands, TLRs are exposed to extensive selective pressures that may be detected on both genetic and protein levels. Surprisingly, the variability we revealed in birds is even higher than previously expected based on the reports from other vertebrates, mainly mammals. In my doctoral thesis I summarise the results of my contribution to the avian TLR research. We were the first who experimentally verify the absence of functional TLR5 in several avian species and duplication of TLR7 in others. We finally resolved the origin of duplication in TLR1 and in TLR2 family. An important part of my research project focused on the prediction of potentially...
Compensation of muscle asymmetries in cross-country skiers
Novák, Karel ; Šteffl, Michal (advisor) ; Kinkorová, Ivana (referee)
Title: Compensation of muscle asymmetries in cross-country skiers Objectives: The goal was to assemble methodological material, that is focused on muscle imbalances in cross-country skiers. Which is based on review of found materials and results gained from author's bachleor's thesis. Tasks: The task was a review of Czech and foreign literature followed by explanation of terms compensation exercise and muscle imbalances. Next task was assembling of methodological material, that is focused on muscle imbalances in cross-country skiers. Methods: Method used was comparative analysis of found materials reffering to the topic of muscle imbalances in cross-country skiers. Results: On the basis of review of found literature and results gained from author's bachleor's thesis was made a methodological tool - stack of compensation exercises for cross-country skiers. Keywords: cross-country skiing, muscle imbalance, compensatory exercise

Zhodnocení biologického potenciálu dřevin na lokalitě Třešňový sad Kosíř lomy a specifikace managementových opatření pro udržení tohoto potenciálu
Novák, Karel
The study of tree-bound organisms nowadays constitutes an essential prerequisite for understanding the status of the trees from the perspective of biodiversity. Fruit orchards also have a specific position for biodiversity due to their high biological potential. The work was dealt at the site of cherry orchard from the part belonging to the particularly protected area of the Kosířské lomy. A dendrological survey was carried out, supplemented by a listing of organisms found on the basis of regular field patrol. An inventory of all found organisms of the site was created, supplemented by the results taken from the flight impact trap capture. On the basis of the collected information, a proposal for interventions was created on the examined trees, including design of management measures to maintain the biological potential of the site. The results of the work proved the importance of the tree species in the area of the cherry orchard under examination from the perspective of the presence of bound organisms and thus provide further proof of the importance of the area Kosířské lomy.
Diagnosing of muscular imbalances in cross-country skiers using tensiomyography
Novák, Karel ; Šteffl, Michal (advisor) ; Jindra, Matouš (referee)
Title: Diagnosing of muscular imbalances in cross-country skiers using tensiomyography Objectives: Objective of the thesis was to define hypothesis about impact of cross-country skiing on musculoskeletal system, most importantly the origin of muscular unbalance, on cross-country skiers using tensiomyograph TMG 100 and bioimpedance InBody 720. Methods: This bachelor's thesis was conducted as qualitative research. It consists of six case studies. We examined the presence of muscular imbalance of back muscles in cross country skiers. Tensiomyograph TMG 100 and bioimpendace InBody 720 were used during this examination. Results: Based on results from examination of six respondents we found out, that there could be muscular unbalance from the standpoint of lateral symmetry, mostly in m. erector spinae. Conclusion: Based on six case studies, were formulated two hypothesis that take in account possible muscular unbalance of m. erector spinae and m. trapezius inferior that could be formed by specific usage by cross-country skiers. Keywords: tensiomyograph, muscular unbalance, cross-country skiing, bioimpedance
