The Transformation of the Character of Simorgh in Works of Classical Persian Literature
Pokorná, Mariana ; Kříhová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Novák, Ľubomír (referee)
(English) This diploma thesis focuses on different depictions of Simorgh, a significant literary character of classical Persian literature. This mythical bird will be examined in the Shahnameh of Abolqasem Ferdousi (940-1020) and the Mantiqu't-tayr of Fariduddin Attar (1145-1221) as well as in the Avesta, the holy book of Zoroastrianism, in which an archetype of this character can be found. These three portrayals of Simorgh will be analysed with focus on the changes of the character, which occurred during its transformation from a Zoroastrian mythical creature to a frequently used motive of Persian literature. The underlying question of the theses is whether the mythical functions of the Avestan archetype were preserved in its literary adaptations in the Shahnameh and Mantiqu't-tayr. The two literary works originated in very different periods in the history of Iran. Therefore, this thesis further aims to analyse how this fact affected the transformation of Simorgh. Last but not least, a description of Simorgh as both a Zoroastrian character and a canonised character of Persian literature is proposed in this diploma thesis.
Iran-China Strategic Partnership from the Perspective of Iranian Foreign Diplomacy
Soukup, Eduard ; Kříhová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Novák, Ľubomír (referee)
The thesis conducts a content analysis of articles from the Iranian internet domain irdiplomacy.ir, which focuses on Iranian politics in the context of international relations. The analysed timeframe spans from the signing of the Strategic Cooperation Agreement with China in March 2021 to President Ebrahim Raisi's visit to China in February 2023. The study aims to explore and depict the I.R.I.'s stance towards collaboration with the P.R.C. The key phrase for searching relevant information is the 25-year Strategic Cooperation Agreement between Iran and China, which has significantly influenced contemporary Sino-Iranian relations. The chosen commentaries are lined up chronologically in an attached sheet, forming the basis of the analysis. Next step involves content examination of the source material, categorising mentions of China based on their themes, while their positive, negative or neutral attitude towards cooperation with China was determined. The last part of the analysis summarises the data into compact schemes using sub-sheets and graphs, from which quantitative results were synthesised. As a result, the paper confirms that Iran's promotion of China has declined substantially during the chosen period and in many cases, open criticism of China became more prevalent.

Islam and the Environment: Ecological Problems in the view of Contemporary Islamic Jurists and Philosophers
Koláček, Jakub ; Ťupek, Pavel (advisor) ; Novák, Ľubomír (referee)
This thesis analyzes contemporary interpretations of Islamic religious ethics regarding the environment and its problems. The first part introduces a theoretical perspective in which the analyzed problem is viewed as historico-sociological problem of interaction between the modern phenomena of environmentalism and the traditional framework of religious ethics. The object of the second part is a close analysis and summary of those parts of the religious textual tradition which are included in the contemporary ethico-religious interpretations of environmental problems. In the third part, three separate discourses of contemporary Islamic environmental ethics and two other perspectives are distinguished and analysed using texts which represent them, published on this topic in English and Arabic. On this material common features of Islamic ethical attitude towards the nature and environmental problems are demonstrated as well as notable differences between the interpretations of jurists, layman activists, institutions and other actors. Attentions is paid to various possible relations between modern environmental concepts and notions and traditional ethico- religious Islamic tenets including their possible political and social implications.
