Řežábková, Kateřina ; Handl, Vladimír (advisor) ; Nigrin, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis examines the transformation of German foreign and security policy after the Russian invasion of Ukraine specifically during the period from February 2022 until June 2023 and the perspective of the oppositional CDU party during this time. The introductory part presents the historical context of the development of German foreign and security policy, the institutional framework for its formation, and the character of German in foreign policy culture. The theoretical framework presents three concepts for interpreting Germany as an actor in international relations: civil power, geo-economic power, and divided power. In the practical part, the fulfillment of the goals of Chancellor Olaf Scholz is being examined. Namely in the supply of weapons to Ukraine, in the anti-Russian sanctions, in the deepening of Germany's involvement in NATO missions, in the reformation and modernization of the Bundeswehr, and in the new quality of German diplomacy. The results of the research showed Germany's willingness to abandon some of its previous taboos, to bear the economic costs of its policy towards Russia and even at the cost of debt, to invest more in its own armed forces and in supporting Ukraine. However, the German government had to face both structural and institutional limits as well as the limits of...
The role of state governance in GVCs - the example of the globalization of the Czech automotive industry after the 1990s
Tian, Yu ; Svoboda, Karel (advisor) ; Nigrin, Tomáš (referee)
The dynamics of governance is one of the most active topics of debate in the GVC and global production network debate, yet attention on the subject of governance has been largely focused on TNCs, with less attention paid to the state and public governance aspects. In recent studies, the role of the state in GVC governance has received more attention, and following in-depth analyses some scholars have proposed three key governance functions: facilitative, regulatory and distributive. Against this background, this paper will analyze the history of the Czech automotive industry in the development of GVCs after 1990 and the role of the state in the automotive industry's participation in GVCs based on the theory of the three roles of the state in GVC governance: facilitator, regulator and distributor. Keywords National governance; global value chains; global production networks; Czech cars; political economy; privatisation

The changes of the position of unexpelled Germans in Czechoslovakia 1945-1953.
Kaufholdová, Jenny ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šmidrkal, Václav (referee)
In the post-war period, the Czechoslovak Republic was subject to many difficulties and demanding changes. One of the most important tasks was connected to the renewal, which lead to the request to create a nation state without a German minority. However, the whole issue was not quite simple and encountered many complications. Although the post-war goal was eventually declared as a success, it was not entirely accomplished. In spite of all efforts, a part of the Germans remained in Czechoslovakia after the main expulsion. The approach to the Germans was influenced by many circumstances, but overall, the unexpelled Germans were still marginalized. The situation of these Germans in the period of the third Czechoslovak Republic changed slowly over time, but the decisive change came after the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia consolidated its power in February 1948. In order to fulfil the aims and ideals of the new regime, the previous approach to the Germans who remained in the Czechoslovakia had to be modified. This thesis focuses on the time period after the end of the Second World War and maps the transformation of the status of the unexpelled Germans according to historically determined events until 1953. It compares the attitudes towards Germans in the political system of the third Czechoslovak...

Sklenková, Kateřina ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Nigrin, Tomáš (referee)
Kateřina Sklenková: "The 1972 Interruption of Pregnancy Law in the context of the family and women's policy of the GDR." Abstract The Bachelor's thesis focuses on the Interruptionof Pregnancy Law of 1972, which was the only law in East Germany that was passed unanimously. It gave women the option to terminate a pregnancy during its first 12 weeks without any indication. There were ambivalent views in society about this practice. After numerous protests, the churches were granted an exemptionand abortioncould be denied on the basis of faith. In the wave of resistance that rose when it became apparent that artificial terminations of pregnancy would be criminalisedagain in the process of German unification, it can be seen that the Law was generally viewed positively. The thesis places the Law in its historical context and in the context of the regime's other family and emancipation policies This text answers the question of how it was possible that such a liberal norm was in place in the GDR. It explains that there were multiple factors. First, it was the socialist regime itself, which was supposed to be scientific and egalitarian in the spirit of the Marxist revolution. Then there was pressure from within the state, where the restrictive policywas criticisedbythe general public, backed by professional...

Masopustová, Sára ; Kučera, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Nigrin, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to explore how the culture of remembrance regarding the Sudeten Germans and their expulsion developed in Ústí nad Labem after 1989. The author tries to find out what were the forms of remembrance and commemoration and which actors participated in it and moved it forward. The thesis mentions how the elected political representation of the city contributed to the commemoration or what was the role of the state for instance in establishing institutions or museums focusing on remembering Germans and expulsion. The role of the public and citizens association is mentioned as well. Since the culture of remembrance includes all forms of remembering, the thesis not only focuses on the important moments of the city when the commemorative plaques were first unveiled, but the author also emphasizes another form of public remembrance as culture or cultural heritage. Ústí nad Labem was historically shaped by the German population and at the end of the Second World War one of the massacres of the German population took place here, it is necessary to mention the historical context in the first part. The thesis briefly discusses the communist period, when the expulsion of Germans and the Czech-German past was erased from the collective memory of society and when anything that in any way...
