Film and historiography

Michael Haneke´s The White Ribbon, Bertrand Bonello´s L´Apollonide, The Girl with a Pearl earring by Peter Webber or The Silence of Joan by Philippe Ramos are European arthouse films, which could be seen as films based on history or historical events. In compare with mainstream films all these authors draws inspiration from changes in historiography in last fifty years to make their fictional worlds more credible. Except of concrete descriptions of their methods the thesis includes also the reflection of the audience perception of films based on historical events or the willingness of the audience to believe the presented image of history.
Old Age in Czech Cinema

ABSTRACT The main topic of this diploma thesis is the analysis of the ways old-age and its attributes are represented in current Czech cinema when compared to newest sociological data on Czech seniors. The work attempts to find out whether the way seniors are presented in films corresponds to reality and if not, what are the reasons behind it. It also addresses topics such as the specific traits of the current generation of Czech seniors, their economic, social and family situation and the way these are reflected in Czech films. The thesis also looks at more general topics such as old age and gender, loneliness or freedom and last but not least analyzes the methods that filmmakers used to portray the themes of memory and reminiscing in their films.
Erotics in Jane Campions films

In b.a. work, I would like to analyze look healthy feminist view of the author's creation of director Jane Campion, who openly admits female desire, but it is still about erotica, not porn. I want to describe the author's style, which in my opinion, poetry beautifully balances the female perception of the world, as well as his "darker" exciting, often neglected page. This thesis explores the work of Charlie Kaufman, a famous screenplay writer and director; it focuses on his film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The first part analyses the narrative strategies and other important formal aspects of the film; that means it discusses the way the film is construed. The second part explores possible interpretations of the film, its main themes and cultural connotations.

The thesis Man as a Being in Extreme Situations. Methods of Stylized Authenticity in Contemporary Author Cinema analyzes five contemporary author films that show signs of realism, authenticity and create a documentary feel. It focuses on means and methods of creating the feeling of authenticity in the mentioned movies. It also focuses on characters in these films. All the characters in the context of the movies find themselves in extreme life situations that do not allow them much choice.

This thesis is dealing with a film creation of Canadian director Atom Egoyan. It includes more detailed survey of his filmography divided into several periods. It pays attention namely to his feature films, but also to important short films. Marginally it mentions works for television. Separate subject matter is an Armenian ethnicity. Repeated themes in Atom Egoyan?s creation are an influence of communication technologies on human relationships, alienation, dysfunctional family, identity, etc. The analysis individual films concentrate on narrative method, structure, typical creative marks and style, but mainly on characters. Dramaturgically study is psychological and sociological orientated.
The czech drugs film

In my thesis I interest in Czech films with a drug subject matter. I compare the creative approaches of individual authors, which is concentrated on the central characters. The thesis contains a study of several well-known Czech films. It also contains a brief comparision with the world film-makers. At the beginning I survey the history of drug problems in Czech Republic a onwards I engage in the individual films. I focus on a use of humor, its method and function there. I reflex the story lines, inner space of characters. I concern with the popular films, even less known ones. I also mention some non-commercial films, a debut and a series episode. I search for the similarities and diffrences. I conclude with the summary.
Lars von Tirer and His Trilogies (Not Only the American One)

The theses is dedicated to the film trilogies of Lars von Trier and the changes in his attitude towards the film-making. There is an obvious fascination with the visual aspect of the film and the visual expressivity in the beginning of his career. On the other end stands a fascination with the story and it´s charecters. Main chapters are on Trier´s conceptual attitude towards the film-making, the topics he´s interested in, the type of Trier´s main character, the way Trier works with the story, the filming methods he uses, and about his films in whole. The main part presents the incomplete American Trilogy: films Dogville and Manderlay.
