Co-use of opioid analgesics with alcohol and/or benzodiazepines in patients with chronic non-cancer pain

Background: The problem of the simultaneous use (co-use) of benzodiazepines (BZD) and/or alcohol in patients with a diagnosis of chronic non-cancer pain (CHNCP) using strong opioid analgesics (OA) is still poorly mapped in the Czech Republic. Aims: To map the prevalence of co-use of BZDs and alcohol among patients with CHNNB taking long-term prescription OA. To determine differences between co-using groups and not-co-using patients and to determine predictors of co-use. Design and setting: The research is based on a secondary analysis of data collected in the period from March 2019 to December 2019 in the form of an anonymous questionnaire survey among patients of nine pain treatment centers in the Czech Republic. For research purposes, clinical and sociodemographic data related to co-use obtained from a semi-structured (anamnestic) questionnaire and data from the standardized questionnaires Screener and Opioid Assessment for Patients with Pain (SOAPP-R), Opioid Risk Tool (ORT) and Emotional Thermometers (ET) were analyzed. Kratom use in Czech republic: questionnaire surwey

Background: Kratom is a natural psychoactive substance origin to Southeast Asia, which use is expanding in the Czech Republic in recent years. The issue of kratom use is coming to the fore in 2022, mainly due to inappropriate regulation of kratom and reports of increasing kratom use not only among students and adults, but also among children and adolescents. So far, there is very little research data on the use of kratom in the Czech Republic. Objectives: The aim of the thesis was to find out and describe the patterns of kratom use in the population of its users in the Czech Republic. The research also focused on risk behaviors related to kratom use. The sub-goals of the research were to map the use of other psychoactive substances and to determine the connections with the use of kratom. Furthermore, to map the need of seeking professional help due to the kratom use, and to find out the opinion of kratom users on its legal regulation in the Czech Republic. Mapping of availability and structural characteristics of various types of addiction treatment and harm reduction services in Slovakia

Background: Availability of services is an important parameter of the addiction care system. In Slovakia, the network of addiction services of various types is probably not as developed as in the Czech Republic, but the availability of specialized addiction care in Slovakia has not yet been sufficiently mapped. Aims: The aim of this bachelor thesis was to map all available addiction treatment services in Slovakia and also to map the structural characteristics of various types of addiction treatment and harm reduction services in Slovakia. Methods: The research part of this theses first consisted of mapping all available addiction treatment services in Slovakia in cooperation with key informants. Subsequently, a research file was created, used in the second part of the research - in a questionnaire survey devoted to the characteristics of individual services. The obtained data were exported to the Microsoft Excel and processed into tables and charts. Patterns of kratom use among regular users: qualitative analysis

Background: Kratom is becoming a more famous psychoactive substance in the Czech Republic. However the research fields is not that fast as its use so there are not many studies in czech describing kratom or its use across his users. Aim: The aim of this master thesis is to findout patterns of drug use in regular useres from age 15 - 34.. Sample: The sample for this study is respondents aged 15 - 34 (young adults). The sample consisted of 10 respondents, 5 were women and 5 were men. The average age of the respondents was 27.2 years. The grat majority of respondents (N=9) are working and the last respondent (N=1) is still a student. Methods: Target group is selected by snowball sampling method. Data will be obtained through semi-structured interview and screenings questionnaires. The method of pattern formula and tuft creation method will be used to analyze collected data. We assume that the result of the work will be not only findinng patterns of kratom use, a description of its addiction or possible withdrawal syndrome, but also the elaboration of professional text Results: Respondents use kratom at least once a week, but their frequency and amount of the substance varies. Use of kratom in students of Prague universities: a questionnaire survey

Background: In recent years it has been possible to note the increasing popularity of a psychoactive substance called kratom. It is a substance that is not legislated in the Czech Republic, which can affect its easy availability for users of all ages. At the same time, there are not enough studies in our country or abroad to research kratom or its use and potential risks. Objectives: The main objectives of this work describe the use of kratom among students at Prague universities and to find out if there was a link between use of kratom and the use of other addictive substances. Furthermore, the thesis also looked at how students perceived the risks associated with the use of this substance. Methods: The research was executed by quantitative data collection via an online questionnaire survey. The questionnaire was distributed by social network Facebook. The sample consisted of 1,496 respondents studying at Prague universities. The data was imported to Microsoft Excel. Afterwards it was organized and processed. Subsequently, a portion of the data was evaluated by using the Jamovi app. Results: A research of 1,496 students was found that 12% used kratom in their lives. Clients' experience with seeking in-patient addiction treatment

Background: Accessibility is a crucial factor in entering addiction treatment. Barriers and facilitating factors of starting treatment are well known from the perspective of clients, professionals, and the system. However, the experience of clients with starting treatment and related factors are not described and characterized enough in the Czech Republic. Aims: The aim of this bachelor thesis was to describe how clients choose facilities and how does the process of starting in-patient addiction treatment looks like from clients' perspective, and what are the factors that influence this process. Methods: Quality research was conducted using semi-structured interviews with clients addicted to alcohol, in in-patient treatment. The sample consisted of 22 clients. The data was analysed using interpretive phenomenological analysis, respectively the method of creating themes. Results: Results showed that most of the respondents chose the organization based on the waiting period or because it was recommended by someone. Low THC cannabis products: market research

Background: Products with low content of the psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are a novelty on the market that has been growing in popularity in the Czech Republic and globally in recent years. This may be due to the high availability not only on the internet but also due to the promise of many positive medicinal effects. Aims: This thesis aims to describe the range of low THC products available on the Internet and to map the information available about these products when buying them on websites. The focus is on information on the composition of the products, their purpose, risks, or positive effects. Methods: The research sample was websites offering low THC cannabis products. To select relevant websites, a search string was used in the interface of the most popular internet search engine in the Czech Republic (Google). Once the target number of 30 websites was reached, a content analysis was carried out, focusing on predefined characteristics of the offered products. Results: The analysis showed that oils were the most offered by sellers, followed by edibles and dried flowers. Thesis "Gambling and its consequences - qualitative research of pathological gamblers" is discussing gambling as a present phenomenon and about the effects of gambling on gamblers and his environment in different aspects of his life. Theoretical part provides the introduction to this problem, specification of definitions and also particular impact of gambling on itself, namely health, social, criminal law and last but not least, financial consequences. The practical part deals with stories of abstaining gamblers and their subjectively perceived impacts of gambling on their lives, hindering factors in the development of addiction and factors facilitating entering to the treatment.
Socioeconomic status and criminal problems of problematic opioids and metamphetamine users

of the thesis Introduction: This dissertation focuses on socioeconomic status and problems with law of problematic opioid and methamphetamine users. Long-term intensive use of drugs leads not only to health impacts, but also social such as the inability of financial autonomy, indebtedness, unemployment, failure to comply with the respective social roles, fiduciary social functioning, poor housing etc. Great number of users are influenced by the drug in situations such as interpersonal relationship, family functioning and partnerships, there is a change of social status, social isolation or exclusion. Effective interventions and service development should always start with a good knowledge of the situation and needs of the user, who claims the service. Claim: The goal of this thesis is finding socioeconomic status and criminal situation of problematic methamphetamine and opioids users consequently draw recommendations towards services that work with these clients.
