Paranormal romance: an attempt to define the subgenre in the context of young adult literature

This diploma thesis thematically follows up one of subgenres of young adult popular literature - paranormal romance. Its main aim is to create a comprehensive definition of this subgenre on the basis of interpretation of representative sagas - Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn), Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick (Hush, Hush, Crescendo, Silence, Finale), Nightshade by Andrea R. Cremer (Nightshade, Wolfsbane, Bloodrose, Snakeroot), Wings by Aprilynne Pike (Wings, Spells, Illusions, Destined) and Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake (Anna Dressed in Blood, Girl of Nightmares). The thesis was divided into eight chapters. In the first chapter we have outlined the historical development of paranormal romance, in the second part we focused on its genre characteristic. In the third and fourth chapters we tried to create a prototype of heroine and hero of this subgenre. The fifth part is about the steady plot schemes in paranormal romances. In the sixth chapter we have tried to determine a model form of relationship main pair of lovers in the analyzed subgenre. Song Where Is My Home?

This bachelor thesis deals with the origin and changes of the song Where Is My Home? written by Škroup and Tyl which became a national anthem. Its musical and textual form is interpreted with concern to its historical contexts. The thesis follows the fate of the song till nowadays and it deals with its contemporary paraphrases as well. The question for reasons that made Where Is My Home? the national anthem is being put continuously thorough the text. Women in the title role

The thesis deals with the analysis of the literary titles and literary female heroines, that entered into the title of a literary work. The theoretical part first discusses the concept of womanhood for two important philosophers - Gilles Lipovetsky in his work, The third wife[1] and Milan Machovec in the publication Philosophy in the face of the demise of[2] . The Centre of gravity of the theoretical basis regarding the literary theoretical categories - titles and literary characters, Josef Peterka textbooks represent the Theory of literature for teachers[3] , the rigorous work of Josef Lesak Poetics in contemporary Czech prose[4] and an extensive theoretical literary publication of Daniela Hodrová . ... on the edge of chaos[5] . Original Czech Drama and Contemporary Drama in 70s of 20th Century

Resumé This academical work called The Original Czech Drama and Contemporary Drama in 70s of 20th century looks back at 70s as the first ten years of Normalisation. The period was restricting in the field of literature. The authors could not write freely. The regime put borders to limit their work. The original drama shows how the culture acts under pressure and without freedom. Obviously, the literature describing current times was disadvantaged opposed to the literature which describes "get away" themes. The conditions for theatres were very strict, mainly for new plays which had to be approved by the regime. There were some improvisation but the reaction of the audience was not easy to predict. In this decade the authors pretend to believe in the ideas of Socialism. They write about the advantages socialistic development. Only in this were the authors were guaranteed that their work is going to be published and performed. This is the difference between 50s of 20th century, when the authors really believed in rightness of the socialistic development. Nevertheless, their beliefs were slowly broken and their private lives strongly influenced. Czech drama in the twenties of the 20th century

This thesis focuses on the issue of Czech drama in the twenties of the 20th century. Specifically, it focuses on the repertoire of the National Theatre. In the first chapters, the state of drama in this period is briefly analysed. In next chapters, dramas are selected that were written by the Czech writers others than the Čapek brothers and introduced in the twenties of the 20th century. Three thematic pairs of dramas were chosen from this limited selection for the purpose of further analysis and comparison. The core and most important elements are the analysis and comparison of pairs of dramas whereas every pair composes of one successful and one unsuccessful drama. All dramas were introduced at the National Theatre in the twenties and all of them were considered as an average when compared to the work of the Čapek brothers. Furthermore, the analysis and comparison of every pair is accompanied by the contemporary critics and reviews published in the newspapers. Typology of characters in novels to continue published in women's magazines

The aim of this work is the analysis of a typology of characters in the serial novel, which was published in women's magazines in the interwar period. For this thesis were used methodology of quantitative content analysis and qualitative analysis of selected five novels to continue. The work was focused on the period 1931 - 1939. Obtained data were found identical types and features the characters used in contemporary novels to continue. They were found the common aspects of serial novels that formed the primary source material of this thesis. The research was obtained the basic data for working with literary figures of romantic fiction. In this work was prepared model the main male and female character appearing in the novels to continue. In this work was constructed the model of serial novel. Part of the thesis has brought an analysis of novels and their characters have been converted into a movie. This work confirmed the importance of the continuation novels, as a key department of women's periodicals in the interwar period. The contribution of this work is to analyze the most frequently used characters in the novels to continue. Publishing Strategies in the Field of Children's Literature

This thesis focuses on the exploration and interpretation of publishing strategies used by local Czech publishing companies concerning children's literature. This thesis offers techniques and methods used by publishers in order to increase sales. These strategies are particularly applied in a book promotion and their web site's presentation. A variety of different publishing companies were chosen for the purpose of research and comparison. The publishing company Baobab presents an alternative publisher and is considered an elite due to many book awards it has received. It focuses mainly on the incorporation of literary and visual aspects of the book creating a whole artwork. Publishing company Albatros with a reputation of a first-rate publisher during the pre-revolution era. Its children's production is still high-rated despite its economic transformation in the last twenty years. And finally a purely commercial publishing house Knižní klub which does not specialize in children's literature but tries to offer the widest range of books. Even though every publisher follows the same aim to distribute a book to a reader, each finds its own way to achieve the goal, which is very much evident in their strategies. Comics as the medium of the artistic expression

The dissertation (diploma thesis) with the topic "Comics as the medium of the artistic expression" consists of theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part represents a definition of the comics, its short history and some important terms of the comics terminology. Next this part concerns with specific narrative constructions of the comics medium and also describes functions and cooperation of the visual and verbal components. In the individual charter is shortly described Japanese comics (manga), its characteristic and different aspects against the classic European and American comics. The end of the theoretical part is dedicated to the theory of the artistic expression and its particular elements, which are used in the comics. The practical part comprising the analysis of two classic comics works and one Japanese manga. Namely it is The Crow, The Crow: Skinnig the Wolves and The City of Light. These works were chosen intentionally because of their technical, thematic and cultural aspects, so the analysis can work with the wider scale of the artistic elements.
