Causes and Contexts of the Financial Crisis in the USA

The diploma thesis investigates causes and progression of the financial crisis beginning in 2007 in the United States and leading in the economic recession. Theoretical part of the thesis describes business cycles and their explanations in accordance with the Austrian theory of the business cycle and other theories. Analytical part of the thesis explores the period before the crisis and significant events relevant to it. The main subject of the thesis are institutions and regulatory measures that have major importance for the U.S. real estate market -- including monetary and intervenionist policy of Fed, Community Reinvestment Act, government sponsored enterprises and three major rating agencies. The goal of the work is to provide a comprehensive view of the financial crisis and analyse main factors that influenced its creation -- credit expansion, mortgage market, Fed's monetary policy, bank behavior, etc. This thesis tries to demonstrate an inaccuracy of state inteventions and their impacts on the economy and market system.
Connection between the economy cycle and the development on the mortgage credit market

The diploma thesis deals with the connection between the economy cycle and the development on the mortgage credit market since 2000 until 2010. Mainly it focuses on the problematic of the effectiveness of the currency policy and on the analysis of the main determinants, which leads to the mortgage crisis. The aim of the thesis is to assess the determinants of the credit cycle and their connection with the development of the economy cycle. The main indicator that influence the credit cycle will be analyzed. On the basis of the gained information I will answer the question whether there should exist some strategy of the state in the field of accommodation and whether the currency policy should be controlled according to same rules or rather discretionally. As for the methodology, the descriptive method, the comparative analysis, the trend line and the technique of the deviations from the trend will be applied.
The analysis of efficiency of the monetary policy and the impact on the Czech economic cycle in years 1995 - 2010

The purpose of this diploma thesis is to examine the efficiency of monetary policy -- impact of monetary policy upon price stability - in relation to main target of Czech National Bank (CNB). The research approach is the analysis of monetary indicators -- price level, interest rates, money supply and exchange rate. In the context of the financial stability the thesis also analyzes another important function of CNB - supervision of Czech financial market using indicators of capital adequacy, banking sector liquidity, profitability of banks and volume of non-performing loans. Theoretical part of the thesis explores quantity theory of money, business (particularly monetary) cycle theories and further describes practical use of monetary policy with respect to the effect of central bank rates on market rates and further on output. Application of monetary rules, use of modern macroeconomic models and predictive apparatus are also topics which are theoretically held forth. The empirical part of the thesis researches monetary policy and supervision of CNB in every single year since 1995. In particular with emphasis on uniqueness Czech monetary policy, resulting from the transformational collision of the settings of exchange rate and monetary policy framework, and related influences remaining up to now.
The Federal Reserve System in the years 2000-2011

Dissertation deals with the Federal reserve system, which is the central Bank of the United states of America. The dissertation is supposed to analyze monetary politics of FED with regard to the possible connection of this institution with the last financial crisis. Chapter nbr. I. introduces short history of the central banking in the USA, the situation before FED was created, circumstances with the enactment of Federal Reserve act from 1913, followed by foundation of FED and first of all about its task during the period of Great depression in the 30th of the 20th century. Enclosed is the overview of critical economical opinions how the FED was functioning. The second part of the dissertation describes the monetary politics of FED before the crisis years 2000-2007. It evaluates the main steps the FED undertook to prevent or alleviate the incomming crisis. Further it evaluates these steps with recommendations of renowned and respected economists. Next chapter deals with the mortgage market crisis and with the monetary politics of FED between the years 2007-2011. This chapter also describes different situation of FED and European central bank and their monetary politics as a reaction to the mortgage crisis. Fourth and last chapter is aimed at the possible cause of the financial crisis and present development of FED.
Economy of Celtic Tiger: Foreign Direct Investment Issue

This diploma thesis deals with investment incentives and their effect on the economy of Ireland in historical and contemporary context. The introduction focuses on the general issue of foreign direct investment and investment incentives. After the summary of geographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the state the work describes an economic development of Ireland from 17 century to the present, especially the important historical events and their influence on the Irish economy. In the main part of this thesis, which is focused on the Irish investment incentives, are listed the general factors of the Irish economy in the form of so-called comparative advantages (high mobility and high skills of workforce, low labor costs) including specific benefits for U.S. investors (culture similarity, no language barrier, favorable geographic location, quality infrastructure) and economic and political measures in the field of direct investment, that Ireland has implemented to attract foreign investors (building of modern telecommunications infrastructure, the international experience of workforce and the establishing of organizations to promote foreign direct investment). Next the work analyses development of investment incentives from the beginning of their application in the 70th of the 20th century through the industrial "boom" in the 90th of the 20th century to the present, focusing on those of them that were key for the development of the Irish economy (taxes on income, efficient infrastructure, a flexible labor market, etc.). Consequently, there is a given forecast of Ireland in the coming years. There is evaluated the impact of investment incentives on the development of the Irish economy and outlined the direction in which the incentives in Ireland will take in the near future.
The causes of the current economic crisis and its impact on the world economy

The work seeks to analyze the causes and impacts of the current financial crisis. It deals with the theoretical view and definition of financial crisis, along with a brief historical excursion. A significant part of the work is devoted to describe the financial crisis in the United States and in selected, economically important, countries. In the context of the causes of and solutions to the current crisis period are remembered views of different economic schools, which are very different. A significant part is devoted to the description of institutional architecture and function of the financial system. Important part is the description of the functioning of lending money (such interest and regulatory policy), because the author sees in it a long series of "unhealthy" factors, which helped the emergence of a financial crisis. The aim of this work is to give a komplete, non-ideological coloring, look at the biggest financial crisis in modern history.
The influence of economic policy on the causes, course and consequences of cyclical economy in the CR in 1989-2009

Market economies are not developing smoothly, they succumb to permanent fluctuations of economic activity. Effort of macro-policies is to mitigate or eliminate these fluctuations and support long-term economic growth. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to analyse the influence of economic policy on causes, course and impact of cyclical development in the Czech Republic in the years 1989-2009. The first section will outline the theoretical background of the economic cycle. I will explain the essence, causes, methodological basis of the business cycle and describe a set of indicators that will help me to analyse fluctuations of economical activity in the practical part. In theoretical part I will also focus on economic policy, especially on the macroeconomic area, but the microeconomical area will be also mentioned. In practical part I will study economic development of the Czech Republic in last twenty years, using the indicators described in the theoretical part. I will evaluate the way of setting the economic policy (suitability of policy mix) in certain economic situations and answer the main question of this thesis: what was the influence of economic policy on economic development of the Czech Republic? Last chapter will be devoted to the business cycle forecasts. I will compare methodical approaches used by forecasting centres such as Ministry of Finance, Czech National Bank and OECD. I will analyse how the previous forecasts of these institutions varied from reality and finally perform a forecast of economic development in the Czech Republic.
Is Bono's involvement in helping Africa consistent?

This paper focuses on projects helping developing countries in Africa, in which is involved the U2 singer Bono Vox. Various forms of foreign aid to the third world countries may have some unintended consequences. The first part of this paper is devoted to developing theories and studies of impact of various factors on economic growth. This part also synthesizes the proposed solutions of the economists Easterly, Celderisi and Sachs. The second part focuses on the Millennium Development Goals and the potential barriers in implementation of them. The last section is devoted to the involvement of Bono Vox in aid to Africa. It shows Bono's attitude to the aid and the evolution of his involvement in this issue considering the consequences of his engagement. Subsequently, it evaluates the benefits and examines the consistency of his involvement in this issue.
How is the business value changeable depending on business cycle

The diploma thesis is focused on influence of the economic environment to the business value. The goal of the thesis is a corporate valuation of the entity to 31.12.2009 in recent time of unstable market and financial crisic and how is the business value changeable depenging on business cycle. At the beginning summary of theoretical data concerning business cycle theories is introduced, followed by a description of business cycle and GDP of the Czech Republic from 1996 to 2010. Key part of the thesis is the corporate valuation according to Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis. The last chapter is based on comparison of the business value year after.
Financial crisis of 2008-2010 - the causes, consequences and measures taken in the EU and U. S.

This thesis analyzes the causes and impacts of recent financial crisis, which originated in the U. S. in 2007. It deals with the theoretical view and the specification of the financial crisis. A significant part is devoted to analyzing the root causes of the emergence of the recent financial crises. Here we find important implications in the functioning and structure of the financial system, in which we see many long-term unhealthy factors which largely contributed to the crisis. The paper also deals with analysis of the financial crisis on the real economy. It analyzes the impact of the crisis on the main macroeconomic indicators in the U. S. and Europe. Here we find an analysis of the measures taken in the U. S. and the EU in order to stabilize the financial sector. Find negative effects of state aid to public debt and government budget deficits.
