History of development of X-ray optics in Czech Republic
Inneman, A. ; Pína, L. ; Hudec, René ; Černá, D. ; Maršíková, V. ; Melich, Zbyněk
The summarizing paper sums up more than 40 years of research and development of grazing incidence X-ray optics in the Czech Republic. The origin of astronomical X-ray optics is related to spaceInterkosmos programme Interkosmos. Overall sixty pieces of Wolter I X-ray objectives were manufactured in key cooperation with the Optical Workshop of the Academy of Science in Turnov. Eight of them were used in four different space missions. After the end of Interkosmos project the development of X-ray optics was reoriented to X-ray laboratory tools for crystallography, to Lobster eye systems for wide-angle space monitoring and to Kirkpatrick-Baez imaging system for large X-ray space telescopes. At present, the novel concepts and technologies for X-ray space telescope considered in future ESA, NASA and JAXA missions are being developed
The improvement of resolving power of small chromospheric telescopes
Melich, Radek ; Rail, Zdeněk ; Melich, Zbyněk
The Mersen system was constructed for improvement of resolving power of commercial solar chromospheric telescopes (Coronado, Lunt). Former device of aperture of 40 mm and resolving power 4“ was equipped with entral member – afocal Mersen system of 120 mm diameter. Resolving power of composed systém was increased to 1.2“ which was observed during good seeing conditions.
Optical design of imaging system of spectrograph with multichannel filter
Rail, Zdeněk ; Jareš, Daniel ; Lédl, Vít ; Melich, Radek ; Melich, Zbyněk ; Václavík, Jan ; Oupický, Pavel
At present time multi channel filter is developed within grant in IPP AS CR, v.v.i. It will enable to observe solar phenomena in several interesting working wavelengths. This filter is composed of five members and possesses long optical interval of parallel beams. In this paper we present several variants of imaging systems of spectrograph which are optimized for this filter.
Design of birefringence filter for HeI and CaII line in near IR spectral range
Melich, Radek ; Melich, Zbyněk ; Šolc, Ivan ; Klimeš st., J. ; Klimeš ml., J.
Spectral sensitivity of today’s CCD chips allows observing in near IR spectral range. Solar observations on astronomically interesting spectral lines of Helium and Calcium in near infra-red region have not yet been done in the Czech Republic. The paper deals with a design of birefringent filter of Šolc type for wavelengths 10830 Å (HeI line) a 8542 Å (CaII line) that would enable such observation.
The Merz objective 160 / 179 of refractor of Upice Observatory
Rail, Zdeněk ; Šrajer, Bohdan ; Lédl, Vít ; Jareš, Daniel ; Oupický, Pavel ; Melich, Radek ; Melich, Zbyněk
In this paper, basic optical characteristic of historic objective lens manufactured by Merz are presented. This objective lens has been in use in main dome of Upice observatory since 1960. The lens was cleaned up and adjusted, during reconstruction work of paralactic mount in beginning of this year. Opto-mechanical parameters of the lens were measured. Measured values of optical parameters are presented.

Melich, Zbyněk ; Melich, Radek ; Oupický, Pavel ; Šolc, Ivan ; Klimeš st., J. ; Klimeš ml., J.
Šolc birefringent polarizing filter for more spectral lines Šolc birefringent polarizing narrow - bandpass filters are successfully used for professional observations of solar chromosphere. They are usually constructed to work for only one transmitting wavelength. Principally it is possible to design such filters to transmit more narrow – banded spectral lines. Filter consist of two parts: Frontal part is broad – band filter, with which, required spectral line can be adjusted. Second – main part consists of 26 quartz plates. Filter is designed for observation of Sun in interesting spectral lines: KII, HY, BaII, HZ, D1, D3 and He.
New type of a birefringent barrier element for narrow-band chain filter
Melich, Radek ; Melich, Zbyněk ; Šolc, Ivan ; Klimeš st., J. ; Klimeš ml., J.
It is described a design of an inclination-tunable barrier element that is solved as a Šolc type birefringent filter. The element consists of two subfilters that are built up of oblique cut plates. This oblique cut provides possibility of continuous tuning by an inclination in only one axis. Furthermore, it is described a principle how to get subfilter tuning values so that only the main filter wavelengths is transmitted. It is proved functionality and performance of considered barrier at two wavelengths.
Chain filters with oblique angle of cut of birefringent plates
Melich, Zbyněk ; Šolc st., Ivan ; Klimeš st., Jan
In this paper results and test data are mentioned of three types of narrowband chain polarization-interference filters using birefringent plates with common angle cut with respect to optical axis of crystal. These filters were successfully used as frame filters tuned by tilt in front of main chromospheric filter, transmitting more interesting spectral lines.
Existing experiences with an observation with a filter in “K” line
Klimeš st., Jan ; Melich, Zbyněk ; Šolc, Ivan
In this article a new modification of a Solc filter prototype and results from testing chain Solc filter in K line are stated. Mainly the results obtained from filter configurations for different bandwidths.
Chain Filter Compound of Birefringent Plates with an Inclined Angle Cut
Melich, Zbyněk ; Šolc, Ivan ; Klimeš st., Jan
In this article a new solution of a shortbanded chain polarization-interference filter is studied. Birefringent plates with common inclined angles are used for this purpose. Because of a right choice of the angles it was achieved linearization of spectral tuning by inclination of the filter.
