The role of the occupational therapist for children with mental disability aged from five to eighteen. Subtitle: Using reconditioning stay
Nývltová, Markéta ; Svobodová, Tereza (advisor) ; Marková, Olga (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on ergotherapeutic intervention in children with mental retardation. The thesis consists of two parts, theoretical and practical. The teoretical part describes the different types of mental disability, the ergotherapy and the relation between ergotherapy and childern with mental disability. In theoretical part there are ergotherapeutic methods described for specific phases of mental retardation, i.e. mental illness, moderate mental retardation, severe mental retardation and deep mental retardation. Of all the ergotherapeutic methods of the procedures, the method of leisure time activities - reconditioning stay - is dealt with in the most detailed way. The practical section of the bachelor thesis is focused on leisure time - reconditioning stay. In this part, I have used semi-structured interviewing methods to learn about the awareness of the field of ergotherapy in the non-profit sector. The interviews were attended by workers who have participated in the operation of reconditioning stays. Next, I have observed in detail the course of two reconditioning stays. Consequently, in my bachelor thesis, there is a comparison of such reconditioning stays (hereinafter referred to as "RP") and ergotherapeutic programmes. The main contribution of this thesis is that it creates...
Occupational Therapy Support for Families of Children with Cerebral Palsy
Moulíková, Iveta ; Marková, Olga (advisor) ; Vavříková, Marianna (referee)
The bachelor's thesis deals with occupational therapy support for families taking care of children with cerebral palsy. The work aims at defining areas where occupational therapists can support these families and also assess how the asset of occupational therapy intervention is viewed by the caregivers themselves. In the theoretical part, cerebral palsy and its most frequent therapies (with accent on occupational therapy) are briefly described. The theoretical part focuses on informal care, the family of the child with cerebral palsy and the consequences that the long-term care brings. The last part of the theoretical part deals with the way how occupational therapists should work with parents who take care of children with cerebral palsy and also introduces the areas where they can do so. Based on the interviews with occupational therapists, the practical part sums up the areas of occupational therapy support for families of children with cerebral palsy and subsequently assesses the support by means of a questionnaire for caregivers. Occupational therapy support for families of children with cerebral palsy is not a common part of practice yet, although occupational therapy can offer the caregivers a lot. The current deficiencies of occupational therapy focused on the support for caregivers that...
Sensorimotor Functions Activation for Patients after Brain Injury from Occupational Therapy. Subtitle: Using Therapeutic Garden
Posová, Veronika ; Svobodová, Tereza (advisor) ; Marková, Olga (referee)
Garden therapy is relatively well known abroad. Even though there are gardens in the Czech Republic that can be used for this kind of therapy, the field itself is not known at all. The goal of my thesis was to create a design concept of a therapeutic garden for patients with brain injury. Part of the design concept are fragments of tactile, olfactory and locomotive training or wheelchair training that a therapist can use for therapy. In order to create a design concept, I evaluated not only the literature but also the answers from a semi-structured interview answered by 3 occupational therapists who have a garden in their facilities. I partially modified the concept using the collected answers. The result of my thesis is a therapeutic garden that corresponds to my ideas and knowledge of occupational therapeuthic field. Two specific sensory aids from the garden environment complementing it's therapeutical use are also included. These aids are for smell and touch training. The main contribution of my thesis is to point out another possible therapy method that occupational therapists might use in practice or multidisciplinary collaboration with garden therapists. Key words: occupational therapy garden therapy after brain injury therapeutic garden
Evaluation of Quality of Life in Patients with Aquired Brain Injury from the Perspective of Occupational Therapy
Macková, Lenka ; Marková, Olga (advisor) ; Angerová, Yvona (referee)
OF DIPLOMA THESIS Author: Bc. Lenka Macková Supervisor: Mgr. Olga Marková Title: Evaluation of quality of life in patients with brain acquaired brain injury from the perspective of occupational therapy Abstract: Acquired brain injury is one of the most common causes of a reducing quality of life. The concept of quality of life is defined differently in different areas and there is no uniform definition. The theoretical part introduces the operationalization and conceptualization of concept of the quality of life and the use of evaluation of quality of life in occupational therapy in the Czech Republic and abroad. The aim of diploma thesis is to describe how acquired brain injury affects the quality of life, how to evaluate the quality of life in occupational therapy, and what quality of life areas are influenced after acquired brain injury and to evaluate subjectively the impact of occupational interventions on quality of life in these patients. The practical part contains 6 case studies of patients after acquired brain injury. Patients were assessed for quality of life through a WHODAS 2 subjective quality of life questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. This assessment was carried out before and after occupational intervention in patients after 2 months. The interviews and the results of the...
Bilateral Upper Limb Training in Patients with Central Hemiparesis
Rejtarová, Anna ; Uhlířová, Jaromíra (advisor) ; Marková, Olga (referee)
Background: Bilateral training is an intervention used in patients with hemiparesis. This training is based on the movement of both (bi) sides (lateral) of the body simultaneously. There exist a lot of articles focused on specific methods of bilateral training. However, the used terminology is inconsistent. The aim of this thesis is to describe the neurophysiological background of bimanual and bilateral methods, review and clear out the used terminology, and describe the different techniques included in bilateral training. Methods: Relevant literature was searched in PubMed, ScienceDirect and OVID Evidence Based Reviews. The inclusion criteria were the availability of fulltext, publication date after 1980, English language and a connection with medicine. The searched keywords were bimanual or bilateral training, metod and therapy. Results: From 1021 articles, only 132 articles meet the inclusion criteria. Five main rehabilitation interventions are used in practice: a) cooperative activity of both arms, b) synchronous movement of both arms c) Mirror therapy, d) an activity, where the impaired hand assists the paretic hand and d) robotic therapy or therapy with mechanical devices. The neurophysiological background is based on a) modulation of interhemispherical inhibition, b) increased motor control of...
The Application of Robot-Assisted Therapy in Patients after Brain Injury in the Acute Phase. Subtitle: With Application of PABLO Instrument.
Gašparová, Pavlína ; Oktábcová, Alice (advisor) ; Marková, Olga (referee)
BACHELOR THESIS ABSTRACT Name, Surname: Pavlína Gašparová Thesis supervisor: Mgr. Alice Oktábcová Thesis opponent: Title of the Bachelor Thesis: The Application of Robot-Assisted Therapy in Patients after Brain Injury in the Acute Phase: With Application of PABLO Instrument Abstract: Brain vascular diseases are the second most common cause of hospitalization in the Czech Republic. As a result of their effect, the upper limb may suffer from typical motor and sensory disorders which reduce independence and self-reliance of the patient. To enhance motor disorders, robot-assisted therapy has been used within the framework of rehabilitation in the last few years. One of the robotic devices working on the basis of virtual reality is, for example, Pablo® System, which enables intensive training of repetitive movements of the upper limb and hand grip strenght or the pinch force. The objective of this work is to discover the effects of three-week intensive rehabilitation of paretic upper limb using the robotic device Pablo® System with three selected probands in an acute phase of stroke. Evaluation of the effects of the device was made using Dynamometer Jamarâ (hand grip strenght), goniometer (active ranges of upper limb motion), modified Frenchay arm test (functional motor activity of upper limbs) and Functional...
