Xenologies: Sociality on an Alien Planet
Bohal, Vít ; Armand, Louis (advisor) ; Horáková, Jana (referee) ; Malečková, Dita (referee)
(ENG): The dissertation explores the use of the morpheme 'xeno' in anglophone theory and literature, and aims to formulate a comparative xenology which would address its contemporary meaning and significations. The term 'Xenology' has existed since the 1950s, largely denoting a speculative science researching alien life, and Part I provides a historically reflexive analysis of the xenologies of the second half of the twentieth century, culminating with a critical analysis of the project Xenologies: Immigrant Instruments by avant-garde artist Krzysztof Wodiczko. Part II then moves to formulate a comparative xenology drawing on contemporary projects which have notably utilized the xeno and its relation to the alien, uncanny or other. A central feature of the discourse is the xeno's collusion with the social sphere - where some theorists use it as an index towards a sublime transhumanism, others develop its original social resonances; this dissonance is addressed throughout the work. As a meta-narrative on the xeno today, comparative xenology is constructed around three modes - the figural, the procedural and inhuman - which are discussed in relation to three contemporary xenoprojects - xenofeminism, xeno-architecture and xenoplanetarity, respectively. Part III then features a glossary of the most...
the Screeners

8 digitální fyzický Abstract: The thesis offers a phenomenological view of the contemporary hybrid world, consisting of interpenetrating two inseparable spheres: the physical (originally material) world and the digital (virtual world). My work shows how we can think about the world by separating the physical and the digital. In my research, I involved students in the eighth year of high school, aged 12-14, who are referred to as Generation Z or "digital natives". I was interested in how students described these two worlds and how they related to them and their intersection. I first explored the phenomenon of the digital world as part of my own artistic research, looking for themes and aspects to highlight. As part of my early research, I subjected the artistic mind maps to qualitative analysis, but the maps did not lead me to a deeper understanding of the digital-virtual world in the way I would expected. What did emerge, however, was the shape of the students' instru- mental relationship to the digital world through physical space and their own physical bodies. I was also interested in how students used the Internet and social networks, so I wanted to have different view on something that I don't usually learn in the classroom as a teacher. In the main research probe, we explored with the students the...

Brain and event
Malečková, Dita ; Petříček, Miroslav (advisor) ; Fulka, Josef (referee)
In my work I aspired to clarify the relationships between the vision and thinking. In the first part I was above all trying to show that the vision is not unchallenged, automatic process. Than I specify the intersection between vision and thinking and I went to the problem of motion and corporality (sensuality). In the second part I arrived to the theme of the space - with regard to the vision and thinking, as a "inscape", and I also outlined the probleme of metamorphosis of space in forms of toplological space, virtual space, or cyberspace. In the third part of my work I developed the theme of chaos and the afinity of chaos and creativity in three zones of human creativity - philosophy, art and science - on the concrete examples of three creators: philosopher (Deleuze), artist (Boudník) and scientist (Mandelbrot). In the last part I concluded with the question of connection of chaos and "brain" as the actual degree of the human knowledge, and also with the contexture of the brain and the event. And I finished with the notion of noosphere. The whole writing is based mainly on work of the french philosophers Henri Bergson, Gilles Deleuze, Michel Foucault, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Teilhard de Chardin and partly also Jean-Francoise Lyotard or Paul Virilio. From the czech authors it is Michal Ajvaz or Egon Bondy.
