Completion of the area Údolní 53 for the Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of Fine Arts
Vrabcová, Anežka ; Malá Opletalová, Jana (referee) ; Makovský, Zdeněk (advisor)
The proposed VUT Art Campus is situated around the area of the streets Úvoz, Údolní, Tvrdého, Všetičkova and Jiříkovského. It lies in between two of the Brno’s most attractive recreational spots, Špilberk and Kraví hora. The project offers a creative solution of connecting two VUT’s faculties, the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Fine Arts. An important part of the proposal is the gallery of the students’ works which also serves as a connecting element between the faculties. One of the main objectives is the creation of the Green Line originating at Špilberk and finishing at Kraví hora. As such, the campus works as a cultural point of interest on the way around the city. The whole concept aims to highlight the uniqueness of the faculties while stretching the importance of their interconnection and the need of a co-operation.
Maternal effect in selected rodent species: positive and negative effect on offspring fitness
Malá, Jana ; Landová, Eva (advisor) ; Stopková, Romana (referee)
This work describes the most studied mechanisms which could be classified as maternal effects. Here I focus on the effects of body weight, health status, intestinal microflora and age of the mother in model rodent organisms. I also present factors such as the position of the young in the uterus, population density, stress and especially maternal care, which accompanies this entire work. Each of these mechanisms can positively or negatively influence offspring fitness, depending on specific environmental conditions. Maternal behaviour is presented here in the form of research, which documents both epigenetic and genetic influences acting on its final form. Maternal care as an element of maternal behaviour shows a different measure between individuals, indicated by the frequency of licking and cleaning offsprings. By evaluation of maternal care, we can find in laboratory populations two stable phenotypes of individuals with different behavioural manifestations in terms of sexual behaviour, stress reaction, aggression or cognitive abilities. The discussion critically evaluates whether maternal care really affects reproductive success and whether it can therefore be considered an adaptive mechanism. According to the available information, low maternal care appears to be a more beneficial strategy in...
Chivalry in Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales"
Malá Štěpánková, Jana ; Znojemská, Helena (advisor) ; Čermák, Jan (referee)
1 Thesis abstract The thesis is concerned with the reflection of chivalry and chivalric culture in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and with the relation of his testimony to the social reality of the late Middle Ages. Chapter 1 introduces the chosen topic in relation to the specific character of the Tales, of the context of the period, and of Chaucer's life. It specifies the aim of the thesis, deals with its limitations, and outlines the criteria and the structure of the analysis. Chapter 2 presents the origin and the development of the knight along with the formation of the code of chivalric virtues and the literary constituent of the phenomenon of chivalry until the end of the fourteenth century and identifies two fundamental chivalric archetypes in the characters of the Knight and the Squire from "The Prologue". Chapter 3 pursues manifestations of chivalry throughout the Tales across genres except romances and analyses their reflection with respect to the narrators of the tales. The analysis first focuses on the chivalrousness of the knightly characters (The Franklin's Tale, The Physician's Tale, The Manciple's Tale, The Monk's Tale, The Clerk's Tale, The Man of Law's Tale, The Merchant's Tale) and then on the signs of the influence of chivalric virtues and culture on the non-knightly characters (The Miller's...
Projects of environmental education at a preliminary class
Malá, Jana ; Zemková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Opravilová, Eva (referee)
of THESIS The aim of the thesis "Projects of environmental education at a preliminary class" is to point to more effective ways leading to better integration of children coming of socioculturally disadvantaging environment to an education process by means of environmental education projects. The theoretical part of this thesis, issuing from the expert literature, deals with upbringing and education of pupils at the preliminary class of the special primary school, with general rules of creating/carrying out projects. The applied part includes the concrete elaborated projects. The observation is focused on analysis of importance of concrete activities accomplished within the projects for asuccessful participation of the target group in the education process.
Somatic embryogenesis of norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.)
Fischerová, Lucie ; Vágner, Martin (advisor) ; Malá, Jana (referee) ; Salajová, Terézia (referee)
5. CONCLUSIONS . The development of somatic embryos on maturation meďum can be divided at anatomical level into fow developmental stages, differing in the inner struďure: stage of early somatic embryo, cylindricď stage, precotyledonary stageand cotyledonary stage. o The prolonged cultivation of coýledonary errrbryos on maturation medium leads to disintegration of the root cap, connected with starch and phenolic cornpormdsdeposition. o The time course of disctete developmental stagesis affected by PEG 4000; use of 3,75 % PBG speeds up the process of maturation by tvro weeks. Increased level of PEG (7,5%o)leads to the formation of nrpturesin ernbryohypocotyls. The content of non-structural saccharides increases during the cultivation of embryogenic culture on maturation medium due to increasing level of sucrose in developing embryos. The content of hexoses in embryos is low. The addition of 3,75 % PEG 4000 into maturation medium increases the sucrose to hexoses ratio in somatic embryos, the total amotmt of saccharides slightly decreases.7,5 %PEG leadsto hexosesaccumulationin embryos. Insertion of pre-maturation phase (without growth regulators) between proliferation and maturation increases total amount of developed embryos in a majority lines tested. cultivation of embryogenic cultues of rafts with...

Regulation of cytokinin metabolism in tobacco plants and chloroplasts
Havlová, Marie ; Vaňková, Radomíra (advisor) ; Ryšlavá, Helena (referee) ; Malá, Jana (referee)
Cytokinins (CKs) are one of the most important group of phytohormones influencing many processes throughout the whole plant. As many processes are regulated both by the light and phytohormones, the first part of this work has been focused on evaluation of diurnal rhytmicity in levels of cytokinins and other cooperating hormones like auxin (indol-3-acetic acid, IAA), abscisic acid (ABA) and polyamines (PA). The changes in activity of selected enzymes participating in metabolism of the above mentioned phytohormones were followed as well. Diurnal variation of phytohormones was tested in tobacco leaves (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Wisconsin 38) grown under a 16/8 h (light/dark) period. The main peak of the physiologically active forms of CKs, found after the middle of the light period, coincided well with the maximum of IAA and PA levels and with activity of the corresponding enzymes. The achieved data indicate that metabolism of CKs, IAA and PAs is tightly regulated by the circadian clock. The other part of the study has been focused on changes in the contents of CKs, IAA and ABA in transgenic tobacco plants with altered cytokinin metabolism, achieved via the over-expression of particular enzymes participating in CK metabolism (biosynthesis, degradation and reversible conjugation). As CKs are known to be...
