INFLUENCE OF RESPIRATORY TRACT CONDITIONS ON PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTIONS GENERATED BY COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE INHALERS
Mašková, Ludmila ; Ždímal, Vladimír ; Ondráček, Jakub
Pressurized metered dose inhalers (MDI) and dry powder inhalers (DPI) are an integral part of the treatment of lung diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (Vichrow et al., 2008). An important characteristic of particles dosed by MDI and DPI is particle size distribution (PSD) (Byron, 1990). This may vary depending on the formulation, but also on the temperature and relative humidity (RH) changes during the transport from the inhaler to the human respiratory tract. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of RH and inspiratory flow rates on the PSD\ncharacteristics and predict deposition efficiency of inhalable particles in the lungs.

The cleaning of particles from library materials (paper, textile, and collagen materials) using a high-speed CO2 snow jet was investigated. The measurements included\ndetermination of the cleaning efficiency, and evaluation of possible adverse effects. The method was compared with nitrogen jet cleaning. The results showed that the CO2 snow\njet is able to effectively remove particles from the surfaces. Any adverse effects were not observed at paper and textile. However, application on collagen materials caused\ndegradation of the surface.

The aim of this methodology was to create a set of procedures and recommendations for library and archive staff or restorers, using which it is possible to remove dust particles from the surface of paper, textiles and collagen materials using the two-phase spray of CO2 snow particles in the carrier gas. The result is an effective and safe alternative to existing cleaning methods. Furthermore, the research aimed to compare the results of this type of treatment with commonly used mechanical cleaning procedures for library collections and archival documents and to analyse in detail the potential use of the new method.
Methodology for removing dust particles from the surface of paper, collagen materials and textiles using the TEA CO2 laser.

The aim of this methodology was to develop a set of procedures and recommendations for cleaning materials frequently represented in library collections, using which it will be possible to use pulse infrared TEA CO2 laser to remove dust particles from their surface. The basic requirement is to effectively remove surface contamination without damaging the treated material. For this purpose, a threshold irradiation intensity is established at which the ablation of the surface dirt begins and a threshold irradiation intensity at which the degradation of the library materials. The result is an effective and safe alternative to existing cleaning methods. Furthermore, the aim was to compare the results of this type of treatment of library materials with traditional mechanical cleaning procedures and thus analyse the possible potential of the new method.\n\n
Child exposure to aerosol particles inside bicycle trailer during the usual ride
Nechvátalová, Karolína ; Bendl, Jan (advisor) ; Mašková, Ludmila (referee)
Bicycle trailers represent a popular way of transporting children during cycling, however increased exposure to aerosol particles due to the location of the trailer in the immediate vicinity of the cycle path surface and of the bike tire may pose a health risk. Some aerosol particles can cause respiratory as well as other severe diseases, since the surface of the paths may also contain toxic substances, such as those produced by traffic. Children are more prone to developing respiratory and other diseases than adults, and therefore more attention is needed. The aim of this project is to find out how many times are the concentrations of PM10, PM4, PM2,5 and PM1 aerosol size fractions and the particle number concentrations higher in the trailer in comparison to the cyclist in front of it at different driving speeds while driving on dusty roads and to confirm the hypothesis that the particles are resuspended from the surface of the road and penetrate into the trailer, which has not been quantified so far. The possible health consequences are also discussed in this project. We did three measurements on two roughly 200 m long dusty sections of cycle paths (Stromovka park, cycle path A22 in Braník) in Prague. For the measurement, the trailer (Chariot Cougar 2, Thule) and the box placed on the handlebar...

Cafe indoor air quality assesment
Jüthner, Ludvík ; Zíková, Naděžda (advisor) ; Mašková, Ludmila (referee)
Cafes are specific places with increasing popularity these days. However, the spaces used mainly for meetings, work or studying have not been yet explored in detail from the microclimate point of view, although suboptimal microclimatic conditions can have a negative effect not only on employees but also on customers. The bachelor thesis deals with an evaluation of air quality in coffee shops and juxtaposes its findings with the legislation that defines beneficial conditions for the particular environment. The aim of the thesis is to determine whether the values of temperature, relative moisture including the concentration of PM2,5 and carbon dioxide, based on an example of three specific coffee shops situated in the center of Prague, correspond with the acceptable standard quotes stipulated by the law. To that end, the author explores three assumptions: 1) the selected spaces are not strictly controlled by the Public Health Authority in comparison for instance with hospitals and therefore the recorded values do not correspond with the regulations, 2) the number of people worsens the CO2 values and 3) coffee shops with an entrance facing a busy street show a higher concentration of PM2,5. The results were achieved by experimental measuring in Winter months. The theoretical part defines the concept...
Indoor Particles of Outdoor Origin in Depositories.
Mašková, Ludmila ; Smolík, Jiří ; Trávníčková, Tereza ; Havlica, Jaromír ; Ondráček, Jakub ; Ondráčková, Lucie
Pollution in indoor environment can cause irreversible degradation of materials stored there. The air quality in depositories housed in historical buildings depends mainly on outdoor pollution infiltrated through the building envelope. There are several strategies to control the indoor air pollution. However, most of them including reconstruction, which is problematic in historical monuments. Thus detailed information about indoor air quality and factors influencing it is needed.
