Modification and analysis of low-molecular chitosans

4 Abstract Chitosan is a natural biopolymer derived from chitin, found in the exoskeletons of crustaceans and fungi. It has gained considerable attention due to its biodegradability, biocompatibility, antimicrobial properties, and potential antitumor activities. Chitosan has cationic amino groups that enable interactions with various anionic compounds. Therefore, it is an ideal candidate for conjugation with monovalent bioactive compounds to form efficient multivalent conjugates. It was found that galectins, especially Gal-1 and Gal-3, are overexpressed in tumor cells. Several monovalent inhibitors derived from the parent inhibitor thiodigalactoside, also those modified with coumaryl groups, have been synthesized, which show a high selectivity and affinity towards Gal-3. The main goal of this work was to synthesize a chitosan-based carrier and conjugate it with ligands exhibiting selectivity and inhibitory effect towards Gal-3. The first step involved the modification of chitosan using a unique effective method based on solid-phase hydrolysis, which significantly reduces the consumption of chemical materials and, in addition, excessive losses during purification. Seeking community reconciliation through traditional practice. The Sierra Leonean experience

Sierra Leone was torn apart by a violent conflict that lasted for over a decade between 1991 and 2002. The deep physical and emotional scars it left on the people and their communities and the destruction of the country's socio-economic and institutional foundations are still visible today. But Sierra Leoneans have also shown an extraordinary ability to deal with the painful and violent past and to move on. This does not mean that the victims would be able to easily forget the suffering they endured or that the return and (re)integration of the ex-combatants into the society would always go smoothly and effortlessly. Yet, if you ask around in the villages across the country, people almost always answer the same: "We have reconciled". What do they mean by that? And how have they achieved it? These questions form the core puzzle of the present thesis. It explores the process of reconciliation and restoration of relationships at village level in Sierra Leone, with a particular focus on the role of local ceremonies. While its main concern is with the specific circumstances in Sierra Leone, it also aims to contribute to the debates in transitional justice and peacebuilding fields regarding the 'local' practices of reconciliation in African post-conflict societies. The Correlation between the Speed of the Source Speech and Simultaneous Interpreter's Performance.

The purpose of the present thesis is to look into the correlation between the speed of the source speech and simultaneous interpreter's performance between Czech and French from the perspective of the French listeners of the source speeches in French, of two groups of interpreters (students and professionals) and of the listeners of the speeches interpreted into Czech. The thesis consists of the theoretical and the empirical part. The theoretical part outlines Daniel Gile's Effort Model and than focuses on the delivery rate of the source speech and on various theoretical approaches of different scholars, on the errors occured in the process of simultaneous interpreting, on intrepretation strategies and on the quality of interpretation. The empirical part describes the research method, the experiment itself and the results of the experiment which focuses both on the number of occurences of different interpretation stategies in relation to the source speech delivery rate and on the number of occurences of various error categories depending on the speed of the quasi-authentic source speeches.
