Teaching English of Deaf and Hard-of-hearing University Students

This dissertation titled Teaching English to Deaf and Hard-of-hearing University Students aims to portray a picture of the situation of teaching English to university students, more specifically of those studying at Charles University in Prague. The work is divided into two main parts. The first part brings general insight, also from linguistic perspective, into language competences and language acquisition by the hearing impaired. It describes variables and possible variables affecting spoken language acquisition by this minority. It gives basic overview of different levels of hearing loss on the grouds of medicine assessment of hearing loss. The dissertiation stresses out the neccessity of educating these students with respect to linguistic research and findings. Moreover, it emphasizes the needs to interweave linguistics and pedagogy and benefits of linguistics research and methods such as error analysis and contrastive analysis for enhancement of language productive skills of hearing impaired students. The English Language Teaching Methodology for Learners with Impaired Hearing

The dissertation The English Language Teaching Methodology for Learners with Impaired Hearing deals with the current situation in the field of ELT in special secondary schools for learners with impaired hearing. It has two main aims: - 1) to gather knowledge from ELT methodology and combine it with information from other source disciplines, e.g. special pedagogy, pedagogy, psychology, and linguistics to form a coherent basis of special systemic English language teaching methodology for learners with impaired hearing; - 2) to carry out a research project in the field of reading with deaf and hard-of-hearing learners at secondary schools since reading is the skill which is practised by all groups of learners with hearing impairment. The dissertation summarizes information on these learners, it describes their characteristics and needs. Main communication methods are presented, as well as some thoughts on the development of language and mind of the deaf. A substantial part of the work is devoted to motivation, emotional and personal development of deaf learners and to their practical communicative needs in the classroom. Health and social problems of adolescents and adults suffering from epilepsy

The bachelor thesis is focused on health and social problems of adolescents and adults with epilepsy. The bachelor thesis aim is to analyze the social status of adolescents and adults with epilepsy in the area of education, leisure activities and the inclusion into a group of peers. The bachelor thesis theoretical part deals with the characteristics of epilepsy, the disease etiology, the first aid and it also mentions current epilepsy treatment possibilities. It describes the social relevance of the disease within adolescents and adults. The attention is given to education, leisure activities and the relevance of the peer group within adolescents and young persons with epilepsy. There are options of the social help for people with epilepsy and the social worker role in the bachelor thesis.
