Identity Construction in Biographical Narratives of Re-emigrants
Fürst, Václav ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Wohlmuth Markupová, Jana (referee)
Abstact The hereby presented study deals with a cross boarder migration of people during the times of communist rule in Czechoslovakia and during the period immediately following the demise of the Soviet domination in Eastern and Central Europe. The study concentrates on those individual migrants who spent a significant period of their lives abroad. This study should elucidate several key aspects of the cross boarder emigration and re-emigration (be that voluntary or forced) as seen by the respective migrants themselves. In particular, those aspects are: how a long-term residence in a foreign country altered their relationship with respect to their home country, what kind of relationship the migrants developed with respect to their new country of residence and what the very act of emigration/re-emigration itself meant in the life of each individual migrant covered by this study. One of the principal issues this study relates to is this: is it possible to consider the identities of individual migrants as having remained "national" despite their long residence in a foreign country or, alternately, is it correct to state that their identities had changed to that of an "emigrant" flavor. In each individual case of the perceived identity change the study attempts to identify the characteristics of the changed...

The author describes, against the historical background, the individual cultural events and the life of the city, as well as the influence of political events which had the result that the city, and indeed the entire country, returned to the era preceding the "golden sixties". Employing the method of oral history, the author has interviewed narrators who had a proactive relationship to the cultural events in the city. Their testimonies were used as a basis for selecting topics which illustrate the cultural movement in the late 1960s as a period of liberalisation ending with normalisation which suppressed the cultural development of the city; the author especially invokes those events which were irreconcilable with the subsequent political developments in the country. The paper also refers to other resources which outline the atmosphere of the era, namely resources provided by the political authorities of the city and the Tábor City Chronicle. Using the testimonies provided by the narrators and the archival resources, the author has endeavoured to paint the most accurate picture of the atmosphere surrounding the events happening in the city in the said period....

Transformations in the behavior of football funs in the 1st and 2nd Czech leagues (Concentrating on developments from 2006)
Baran, Ondřej ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Diestler, Radek (referee)
Sport is one of the most important leisure activities in today's Euro-American civilisation. We are not talking here only of active engagement in sport, but also of sport as a source of mass-entertainment for millions of people. In this thesis I focus above all on the conduct of spectators in football stadiums in the Czech Republic. I will approach this theme by way of oral history, where the narrators providing me with interviews regularly go to matches in the First and Second Divisions of the Czech Football League. I concentrate here above all on the motivation and attitudes of the various groups of spectators to the events in the football stadiums, and I pick out three groups in particular: normal fans, ultras and hooligans. I endeavour to delineate the main differences between these groups which, in my view, are rooted not only in their varying motivation, but also in their modes of communication, as well as in their social composition and their age-structure. At the same time, however, I also attempt to highlight the specific environment of football terraces in which, though all the spectators may conduct themselves as individuals, they at one and the same time become, in a certain way, part of a mass of spectators, and they may therefore be in certain circumstances overcome by the situation...
