Changes of Life and the Perception of Political Power between World War II. and the Comeback of Capitalism in the Village of Sudoměřice
Bek, Lukáš ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Krátká, Lenka (referee)
Using the example of the inhabitants of Sudoměřice, a predominantly Catholic village in South Moravia, this thesis examines the relationship of the non-privileged strata members to the manifestations of political power in the period from the end of World War II until about 1990. The main sources are oral history interviews with 13 local citizens. The local chronicle is also an important source. It appears that the power (domination, using Weber's term), which is the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (CPC) for most of the period examined, takes on a number of different forms in memories, not only depending on the period, but also on the bearers of memories and other circumstances. For example, even some people whose families were persecuted during the Stalinist period have quite different recollections of the local CPC officials in the 1950s and their successors in the 1970s or 1980s. The topic is the question of faith, but also the standard of living. Emphasis is placed on the key moments of "great" history, such as 1945, 1948, 1968 and 1989. This thesis also aims to contribute to the discussion of how the communist regime could hold on for so long. Part of the answer is precisely that diverse perception of power, as well as the forces of social coherence at the village level affecting both local...
Miners as a profession in the background of the Ostrava region.
Hybešová, Kateřina ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Krátká, Lenka (referee)
This thesis deals with the development of mining and mining colonies in the Ostrava region and also deals with the interpretation of interviews with miners performing their profession in the Ostrava-Karviná mining district between years 1950 and 1994. It focuses not only on the development of the environment and mining conditions in the Ostrava region, but also reasons and motivations for choosing a demanding and often life-threatening profession, as mining is. The thesis is produced using inductive method, where the processes at the individual level apply to wider groups. Such processing allows me to process interviews with witnesses alongside traditional written sources. The finding of the thesis is the fact that there are three main motives for the choosing of mining profession, which are family tradition, the possibility of not participating in two-year compulsory military training and last but not least, the above-standard wage. The thesis offers another view on how workers in socialist Czechoslovakia lived.

Czechs and Germans in a post-war city
Fejtl, Michal ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Houda, Přemysl (referee)
My thesis is about coexistence of Czechs and Germans just after World War II in border region, especially in one city, in Mariánské Lázně. There was dispatched the first oficially transport with local Germans in January 1946 and this city was announced of a purely czech city in the spring 1946. What was the attitude of Czechs, local and new arrivals, to the local population over the years 1945 and 1946? As a purely German spa resort Marienbad changed during one year in Czech Mariánské Lázně? This time was characterized by the acute postwar radicalism and it is not explored in detail yet. My thesis is based on the memories of local population (natives and settlers). Another source are written documents (chronicle, official files and newspaper articles).
History of the Czech(oslovakian) reenacting
Procházka, Filip ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Urbášek, Pavel (referee)
The goal of this thesis is to do research , as wide as possible, in the most popular part of hobby named reenacting or reenacting (Napoleonic era, Austro-Prussian Wars, American Civil War, Second World War and some new topic - Czechoslovak Peoples Army, Royal Air Force and Czechoslovak Policemen before WW2). Thats mean commemoration and re-enactment of military history and military units in whole its history from time before 1989 to the future. I tried to find grounds of this hobby and describe development of it. As I expected, progress of this hobby or movement is larger, but this hobby existed before 1989 too. Reenactors reenacted and portrayed older conflicts as Napoleonic and Austro-Prussian war. Future reenactors were mainly fencers and tramps. Year 1989 was turning point for all reenactors. Theirs hobby is legal, it is possible to travel, to unite, to ground living history groups, own weapons, speak about all part of our history. It was possible to share and search information, regulation with and in foreign countries, foreigners and archives and museums. Main goal of reenactors is to portray theirs archetypes as good as possible. Public can see not only reconstruction of battles, but open air exhibition - "very interactive museums". This thesis can't be described as "Complete, all history of...

I. vojenská mise českých vojáků po roce 1989 5 Abstract The main objective of the thesis is to remind the Czech presence at the First Gulf War in 1990-91 and to contribute to extend the knowledge and available details related to this important event of the world history. The main sources of collecting information are interviews held by the method of Oral history with the members of Czechoslovak chemical defense battalion that was present during the Kuwait War. The contingent was headed by colonel Valo at that time. The additional source used in this assay are the archive files collected at the Central Military Archive facility as well as published articles/books dedicated to this topic. It was a first time that the contingent of the Czechoslovak Army- battalion was sent to serve abroad after 1989. Majority of the battalion members spent their live, service and duty in the political regime that had a negative attitude to the armies of the NATO members. With respect to the specificity of the selected theme I tried to cover not only the war conflict itself and participation of the Czech battalion there but also the previous professional life of the Czechoslovak soldiers, their relationship to the service in the Czechoslovak...
The Odry region after World War II in life stories of its inhabitants
Kučerová, Lucie ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Kreisslová, Sandra (referee)
This Master's diploma thesis elaborates on the history of Odry region, particularly the period after World War II, when it underwent a significant transformation. The goal od the thesis is to do a thorough micro-historical research of the postwar history of the region with respect to the transformation of the formerly German areas into the reclaimed lands of the Czech nation. It is divided into several chapters. In the first chapter I evaluate the source base to the topic; I investigate various literature related to the transfer of the Germans and the frontier settlement (its regional provenance being taken into account), archival sources and narratives - memories of displaced Germans from the presently analyzed region and several examples of the recorded oral-history interviews. In other six chapters I elucidate the situation of the Odry region in particular periods: in 1938, during World War II, and in the era of the liberation, followed by the transfer of the German population and the process of a new habitation. The last chapter then discusses the postwar Odry region as a home both lost and obtained. The paper provides insight into the postwar transformation of the Odry region in the period after the World War II perusing primarily the memories of those who were directly involved. Key words the...
