Representations of Native Americans in Czech Written Sources in the Early Modern Period

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of representations of Native Americans in Czech written sources from the 16th century which are related to the topic of european overseas exploration. Special emphasis is placed on the formation of representations of corporeality in the context of discourses present in the early modern literary production and on the representations of gender relations that discourses of the body help to produce in texts. Apart from other things, the textual representations were influenced by the europocentric interpretation of the world which emerging from christian discourse at that time. As well, the work shows how the practices of othering of American Indians and their societies are produced in analyzed sources. The othering was realized, beside other things, in the context of dichotomous discourses of civilization and barbarism, religious discourse and the discourse of power. Emphasis is also put on the changes and mutual similarities of discourses in the written sources. In order to analyze representations of American Indians, the work uses the method of Foucalt's discursive analysis. The Life in the communities of the School Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis in 1971-1989. Everyday life and gender roles of women's religious communities during socialism.

The work deals with the everyday life of the School Sisters of St. Francis on the Czech territory in 1971 - 1989, but it aims to cover the history of the congregation throughout the whole period 1948 - 1989. The use of the oral history method captures mainly the life in secret monastic communities, both female and gender, in which sisters lived especially for the purpose of leading the noviciate. In addition to describing the strategies that sisters have developed during the given period for the maintenance of religious life, the thesis also deals with gender modifications and their transformation, not only related to the specific conditions of the communist regime, but also to the Second Vatican Council, which brought about fundamental religious reform.
Unemployment in the city of Prague

Unemployment is a crucial issue in our sociaty. The negative impact of unemployment is mostly observed by people who lost their jobs as well as people who are currently working. Unemployment is an issue that touches all of us. In my bachelor thesis, I look at the theoretical causes of unemployment and I discuss it with emphasis on social and psychological effects. Charakteristics of Prague conduse to the fact that Prague is tradicionaly region with the lowest unemployment in the Czech Republic. Exploring solutions of increasing unemployment is the central goal of the state government. The government sets the politics of employment and is actively involved in definding the tools for active employment solutions. Such tools are designed to facilite hiring people with limited hiring potential and support employers in creating new job oportunities. The individual tools of active employment solutions, their usage and suitability in practical reality are also subjects of this thesis.
