M. Illyenko and his play "The Bitch"
Jíchová, Viktorie ; Lendělová, Věra (advisor) ; Morávková, Alena (referee)
Mychaylo Illyenko is an important figure of the Ukrainian cultural life: a director, screenwriter, stage manager, writer, actor, dean of The Academy of Cinematography in Kyiv (), deputy chairman of The Association of Ukrainian cinematographs, a corresponding member of The Ukrainian Academy of Arts. As the main organizer of the film festival "Open night" for young Ukrainian filmmakers he attempts to regenerate the declining industry of Ukrainian cinematography. M. Illyenko's outstanding films, such as Fuchzhou (1993) and The Seventh Route (1997), have been awarded at a number of international film festivals. The question of the being of Ukraine and of the Ukrainianess as a feeling of belonging to one's ethnic origin, as well as the question of the state of the soul of a Ukrainian is still very problematic and urgent. This is hardly surprising, as the historical development of Ukraine since long time ago to the present has been very complicated. Ukraine is still a sort of frontier zone between the East and West, North and South, the past and future. This fatal crossing is thus reflected not only in the geographical situation of Ukraine, but also in the consciousness of the Ukrainian nation and in the soul of individuals. The play "The Bitch" (2006) is one of Illyenko's later pieces. It represents a very...

Secondary prepositions (in Russian-Czech-Ukrainian context)
Řezníčková, Veronika ; Lendělová, Věra (advisor)
The prepositions, as a word class, is not uniquely determined. Some linguists consider the preposition as a particular morpheme, some others as an auxiliary, not fully significant word class, some linguists do not regard the preposition as a word at all. The prepositions, from the formal point of view, can be divided into primary and secondary and, depending on the number of their components, into one-verbal and multi-verbal prepositions. The secondary prepositions are further divided by the majority of linguists into adnominal, adverbal and adverbial, however some linguists speak of adadjectival instead of adverbial prepositions. The lexical meaning of prepositions is analysed in different theories, we are of the opinion that the preposition has a lexical meaning. This fact has been proved by I. K. Kutcherenko (10), and we have verified his theory in the practical part of our dissertation. We have focused on the semantic nuances of chosen causal secondary prepositions, collocates, which are the most frequently used with prepositions, and also the frequency of causal prepositions. Depending on a given context, prepositions can change their lexical meaninig and can be replaced by synonymous equivalent terms. Using examples from Russian and Czech national corpus, and also from Russian, Czech and to a limited...
The Ukrainian family names
Jarošová, Kateřina ; Lendělová, Věra (advisor) ; Savický, Nikolaj (referee)
In my thesis I follow the issue of Ukrainian family names. The study of anthroponymics in itself is still of live reflection due to the fact that both first and family names make it possible to get important data not only from philological point of view (for language structure research) but also from historical and ethnographical ones. Key guiding sources for this essay were: Publication "Sučasni ukrajinski prizvyšča" by J.K.Reďko and dictionary "Prizvyšča zakarpatskych ukrajinciv: Istoryko-etymologičnyj slovnyk" by P.Čučka. The purpose of this study is to illustrate the origin and history of the Ukrainian family names development and to examine family names word-making together with their grammatical and pragmatical special features. My analysis of individual word-making styles has proved that suffixation is the most common way of word-making in the Ukraine. Furthermore, this study deals with the variety and semantics of the Ukrainian family names. Special attention is being paid to family names of the Carpathian area, which are in typological terms (word roots of non-Slavonic origin) substantially different from family names coming from central and eastern areas. I have carried out detailed analysis of the most productive patronymic suffix in Carpathian Ukraine: "- / - / -" ("-ák" in Czech). I have...
The reception of the mediaeval compendium Lucidarius in Ukrainian literary milieu
Petišková, Dagmar ; Lendělová, Věra (advisor) ; Moser, Michael (referee) ; Tkač, Ljudmila Oleksandrivna (referee)
This thesis deals with the reception of a German-language elucidarium in the Czech and subsequently Ukrainian literary environments. It acquaints the reader with the history of the work, which originates from the Latin theological tract Elucidarium by Honorius Augustodunensis from the end of the 11th century. It deals with the conception of the German Lucidarius, which was created as one of the first medieval works in the national language at the end of the 12th century and is considered to be the first German-language encyclopedia. This thesis presents the Lucidarius as an originally produced compilation created via the translation and adaptation of several Latin treatises from the fields of theology, philosophy, cosmology, geography, and history. In the Czech environment, Lucidář, translated from German, appears at the latest in the mid-15th century and is a work that enjoyed the interest of lower classes of readers until as late as the early 19th century. The Czech Lucidář carries significance in terms of inter-Slavic literary ties - via translation, a Croatian elucidarium (15th century) and Ukranian elucidarium (16th -17th century) were created. This thesis presents the Ukrainian Lucidarij as one of several works that was translated from Czech into the Ukrainian-Belarusian (or more precisely...
Literary surshyk: contours of literary multilingualism
Sevruk, Alexej ; Lendělová, Věra (advisor) ; Bakula, Boguslaw Leszek (referee) ; Kalina, Petr (referee)
This thesis deals with mixed hybrid Russian-Ukrainian language known as surzhyk with an emphasis on its reflection in contemporary Ukrainian literature. The aim of the thesis is to outline the basic features of the contemplation of literary surzhyk. The first part presents a general definition of the concept of surzhyk, its sociolinguistic definition, geographic and functional extension. Further on, it suggests the relationship between this phenomenon and its literary reflection - so-called literary (or also author's or conscious) surzhyk. The following section reviews the reflection of literary surzhyk in theoretical works, both linguistic and literally theoretical. The use of literary surzhyk is discussed in detail in the major monographs dedicated to this phenomenon (Artur Bracki, Larysa Masenko, Salvatore Del Gaudio) and in the key works on Ukrainian postmodern literature and Ukrainian society (Tamara Hundorova, Roksana Charchuk, Ola Hnatiuk). In the third part, Peter Mareš's concept of intratext multilingualism is taken over for further investigation of literary surzhyk. The paper tracks the forms of hybrid language in Ukrainian literature and what functions it performs here. Some specific forms of textual multilingualism have been introduced as the most appropriate for grasping literary...
