The regional functions of libraries in the Central Bohemia Region in the years 2001 - 2011

This thesis describes regional functions of libraries in the Central Bohemia Region in the years 2001-2011, it focuses on funding reduction in 2011-2012 and through a survey it identifies the attitudes of operated libraries in the current period. The introductory chapter briefly describes the theoretical and legislative definitions of regional functions performance, objectives, standards and funding at the nationwide level. It defines the objectives of the regional functions such as ensuring availability and a comparable quality of public librarian and information services for citizens in all parts of the Czech Republic, promoting effective labour distribution and coordination of professional librarian activities and efficient use of public financial resources. The second part is devoted to the performance of regional functions in the Central Bohemia Region. The period in which these functions are implemented is divided into two stages, which are compared. It describes the effect of the Concept of support for libraries from the budget of the Central Bohemia Region to the activities of libraries in the region, the consequences of reduced financial contribution to the regional activities in 2010-2011 and briefly suggests possible solutions. Verification of the Kuhlthau's Information Search Process Model in the Environment of the Czech Republic

The thesis focuses on Kuhlthau's Information Search Process Model. Firstly, the author explains Kuhlthau's model of information retrieval and seeking meaning of information from user's perspective. Results of the model are the uncertainty principle and mediation - findings which change our view of library services. In the second part of the thesis, the author introduces other research texts and manuals about writing a scientific text. She pays special attention to Jadwiga Šanderová's comprehensive manual which is called How to read and write a scientific text in social sciences, and to stylistics research text by Světla Čmejrková et al. called How to write down a scientific text. Thirdly, the author evaluates the survey which verifies Kuhlthau's model in the environment of the Czech Republic. Analysis of web information resources in the field of education

The purpose of the thesis is to search out, analyse and evaluate an open access and commercial electronic information resources in educational theories available on WWW. First and sekond part determinates topic of education, describes his development, problems, nomenclature, experimental method and information support. The objective of the thesis is to analyse and evaluate selected bibliographic and full-text databases, digital libraries, portals, subject gateways and catalogs. Online services are especially emphasized. Analyses are elaboration in the Czech education theory context. Final summary evaluates results of analysis.
Environments and projects that support children's reading

The thesis deals with a support of children's reading. The work is aimed to factors and actors influencing reading education. The first part solves theoretical definition and the meaning of reading. Primarily there are explained two important terms related to the topic - reading and a reader. Further it is proceeding by attention given to different phases of reading education before and during school attendance. Primarily three environments influencing reading literacy were observed. These include family, school and public library. Furthermore, national representative projects supporting reading primarily in libraries are shortly presented at this thesis as well. The second part is focused on the Municipal Library of Prague, specifically Smichov branch and its activities. In this part are charted various programmes for children. Repeated activities for parents with children or for children alone are observed. Also, events for groups of preschool and school children are described. The important part of presented work deals with survey of cooperation between Smichov branch and local schools. The research results are to determine practical experience of teachers from these schools in activities of Smichov branch and in their cooperation with this library.
Technical University of Liberec Library: Strategic plan for the years 2012-2015

(in English): The theme of this thesis is a strategic plan for the University Library at The Technical University of Liberec for years 2012-2015. The first two parts give a detailed analysis of the present condition of the Library containing all the accessible statistical data and the research outcome of the users needs. Based on the collected data in the following text targets are set which when reached should increase the prestige of the Library and thereby the University. The next chapters outline the specific steps to reach the set targets. A part deals with changing the processes of Acquisitions and Cataloguing. Futhermore additional features as reference services, web sites, accessing Electronic theses, dissertations and organization. Potentially some new things should be considered such as an institutional Repository, a discovery system, expansion of RFID technology (Radio Frequency Identification), a selfcheck, providing e-books and other new electronic developments. The conclusion is devoted to the meaning of the strategical plan for the University Library at TUL.
Public Libraries as Mediators of Electronic Resources of Cultural Heritage

The thesis focuses on the mediation of electronic information resources of cultural heritage from public libraries to public. The text is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. Introductory chapters explain key terms - cultural heritage, digitization of analog cultural object and digital library and describe chosen benefits that providing of electronic information resources of cultural heritage brings to public libraries. The thesis also includes analysis of chosen electronic information resources of cultural heritage. They are presented Manuscriptorium, Kramerius, Moll Collection, online portal Europeana and web site of American Memory project. The practical part of this thesis presents the results of a supply and demand survey. The first survey was implemented on web pages of Czech regional libraries and the second survey is user survey among the Czech public. The last chapter is formed by recommendations for public libraries which offer electronic resources of cultural heritage.
Presentation of Library Services to the Public : Analysis of Current Situation in the Netherlands and Czech Republic

The aim of this thesis is to compare the actual presentation and communication of library services to the public in the Dutch and Czech public libraries. Monitored were primarily legislative frameworks of mentioned countries, branch organizations and their marketing activities supporting public libraries. Theoretical knowledge was supplemented by practical findings gained during the study tour undertaken in the Netherlands. During this study tour were identified specific methods of promotion of public library services. Thesis explores these methods and outlines the possibility inspiration from Dutch library practice. The work proposes an innovation of Czech public library services using the retail concept as part of the open access collections, which was observed and verified in the Netherlands. The final comparison of selected factors on the national level provides a brief overview of librarianship in both countries.
The usage of fairy tales in a bibliotherapy

The doctoral thesis "Application of fairy tale in bibliotherapy" deals with a topic of a fairy tale therapy in children's homes background. The theoretical part is aimed to the terminological definitions of bibliopsychology, bibliotherapy, psychotherapy and child psychotherapy. One of the chapters deals with a fairy tale and its influence on child readers. Another chapter deals with a role of a fairy tale in a child's life. The practical part is focused to the application of a fairy tale therapy in orphanage settings in cooperation with librarians from the children's department of public libraries. Selection of children's literature: family influence and the comparison between generations

In this bachelor's thesis, I focus on the family influence and a family's reading preferences during three generations. In the theoretical part, I list evidence proving important and indispensable influence of a family on the children's reading. I also mention some of previous researches focused on children's reading preferences. In the practical part, I evaluate a questionnaire that was asking about popularity of certain choosen books during three generations as well as about the family relations and the attitude towards the books that were read. This thesis puts emphasis on the family reading.
Bibliotherapy in the environment of public libraries

This thesis aims to introduce the notion of bibliotherapy and its application in public library environment. The text is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, the notion of bibliotherapy itself is introduced, together with questions of who is engaged in this field, as well as the effects of reading. There are presented several book titles which belong to bibliotherapeutic literature. The substantial part of the thesis is then built on specific examples of bibliotherapy practiced in public libraries in the Czech Republic, as well as abroad. The practical part features first an interview with Mrs Marcela Kořínková who actively engages in bibliotherapy; second, there is a proposal of implementation of a bibliotherapeutic department in an imaginary public library, and last, there is a research presenting the wide public's awareness of, and interest in the field of bibliotherapy.
