The practice of bachelor students of the librarianship

The bachelor's thesis provides information about general high school library and information practice recommendation, that is based on document "European Curriculum Reflections on Library and Information Science Education". The thesis brings information on the text of The Institute Curricula and gives the analysis of students internships that run over at three high schools in the Czech Republic (universities in Praha, Brno and Opava). The introduction describes a genesis of the Bologna Process initiatives and their development. In the next part, there is a brief introduction to the European Curriculum Reflections. The text itself is a conclusion of the EU project inspired by discussions around the Bologna Process. Subsequently, the chapter 11 titled "Practice and Theory: Placement as a part of the Curriculum" is introduced. The third chapter of the thesis focuses on students' internships that run over at the abovementioned high schools. Use of electronic information resources in the Czech language and literature classes at high schools

This diploma thesis is focused on information education and using electronic information sources in Czech Language and Literature classes at Czech secondary schools. It consists of three parts. The first, theoretical part addresses information literacy in the Czech Republic, national information education policy and contemporary trends in using modern information and communication technologies in the classroom. The second part includes an overview of open online information sources for Czech Language and Literature classes which could be used in the classroom. The thesis also includes an inquiry into the use of electronic information sources in Czech Language and Literature classes at secondary schools. The research was conducted at two general secondary education schools - Jiráskovo gymnázium in Náchod and Gymnázium Broumov. Public Library Services for Visually Impaired: An Analysis

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of public library services for visually impaired users. Firstly, the thesis provides a theoretical introduction to the topic. It describes several projects related to the topic, activities of chosen non-profit organizations and fundamental legislation. Secondly, the thesis focuses on provision of library services for visually impaired in public libraries in the Czech Republic and abroad. The practical part of the thesis consists of an analysis of four Czech public libraries and of a qualitative research. Finally, the findings are summarized into several recommendations which could help libraries successfully offer services for visually impaired users.
Support of Reading in the Municipal Library Branches in Prague

(in English) The thesis deals with a support of reading with aim effort to offered service, organizing cultural and educational actions in the Municipal Library of Prague. The first part solves theoretical definition and the meaning of reading. There are briefly explained some terms that relate to - reading, the reader, reading socialization, reading literacy, etc. Factors that influence reading process and education for reading are monitored, as well. Furthermore, national representative projects supporting reading primarily in libraries are presented at my work, too. The second part of my work is focused on the Municipal Library of Prague and its role in supporting reading. It describes the library from the view of its mission, the way of financing (funding) and organization structure. The essential part pays attention to the presentation of specialized sections and services, which are provided in the library. It describes different actions supporting reading or providing propagation of the library. Last but not least, the different sections of the Municipal Library of Prague are depicted here with attention to organizing cultural and educational actions, which contributes to supporting reading. Comparison of selected Czech and Slovak academic libraries : on the example of Charles University in Prague and Comenius University in Bratislava

(in English) The goal of the thesis is to describe, evaluate and compare the present state of university libraries at the Charles University in Prague and Comenius University in Bratislava. The first chapter briefly describes the present state of Czech and Slovakian university libraries, their anchorage in the laws of the given state and also deals with societies associating the university libraries. The second chapter describes history, present and prospects of three selected faculties of Charles University and Comenius University (Faculty of Art, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Physical Education and Sport) and also the buildings where the faculties are located are described. The third chapter already follows up the libraries of the selected faculties, their history, services, personnel, space descriptions, and their promotion among the general public etc.. The fourth and fifth chapter presents the main body of the work. These chapters include assessment of the questionnaire survey, between to the directors of the selected libraries, and comparison of these libraries on the basis of the survey and other obtained data. Electronic Information Resources: on the Example of Faculty of Medicine (1st, 2nd and 3rd), Charles University, Prague

The master thesis deals with the current state and prospects of electronic information resources in politicy of Faculty of Medicine (1st, 2nd and 3rd), Charles University, Prague. The first chapter briefly describes a development of all Faculties of Medicine. Furthermore the most important information about library information services are mentioned. The facts related to University Library and computer center who are the major college providers of services at the university, are discussed as well. This chapter also focus on common and distinct features of medical libraries. The libraries are characterized from this point of view: development, staff, equipment, acquisition policy, the fund structure, user profile and services. The thesis main part is devoted to comprehensive analysis and evaluation of acquisition, distribution and promotion of electronic information resources that libraries have available. Methods for measuring service quality in university libraries: a case study of libraries AMU and JAMU

This thesis examines the issue of measuring the quality of services from a theoretical and practical perspectives. It's trying to define the term quality in the context of library services, particular performance indicators used in practice and try to provide an overview of the possibilities of its measurement in the Czech environment as well as abroad. It describes methods Balanced ScoreCard, Benchmarking, Total Quality Management, ServQUAL and SWOT analysis, which originally came from the commercial sector and Benchmarking of libraries, Bibliotheksindex and LibQUAL +, which were created directly for a field of librarianship. It also maps the various activities in this field at national and international level. The practical part of the thesis consists of a survey in two selected libraries performed on the basis of three selected methods of quality measurement: Benchmarking of libraries, Bibliotheksindex and SWOT analysis. In conclusion of the thesis is based on the information gathered from own experience and practice created a general framework for service quality, the possibility of increasing quality and it's measurement in academic libraries.
Project Bookstart: the potential for further development in the Czech Republic

This diploma thesis deals with the international project Bookstart and its potential for further development in the Czech Republic. The first part is devoted to terminology and definitions of pre-reading literacy, reading literacy and functional literacy. In addition, selected Czech and foreign projects promoting reading literacy are presented. At the end of the theoretical part of the thesis, attention is paid to the introduction of the project Bookstart, the experience with its course abroad, and mapping the pilot year of the project in the Czech Republic. The practical part of the thesis presents qualitative research in the form of two semi-structured interviews, and quantitative research conducted using an online questionnaire. The support of the childrens' reading in the Czech Republic and German speaking countries

The diploma thesis concentrates on the children's reading issues, and compares the approach to its support in the Czech Republic and the German speaking countries. The introductory part is devoted to the current children's reading, the factors that influence it, and reading interests of today's children. It also evaluates the contemporary Czech children's literature and its publishers. The following two chapters describe the activities for the children's reading support that are developed by Czech libraries and non-librarian entities. The next part introduces the projects for the children's reading support implemented in Austria and Germany; it also shortly describes the programs of other German speaking countries. The sixth chapter briefly outlines the subject matter of the children's reading support in both Czech and foreign media. There are two surveys attached to the thesis. The first compares the activities of selected Czech and foreign libraries, and their contribution to the children's reading support. The second survey, implemented among the children readers of the Central Library of the Municipal Library in Prague, evaluates the children's satisfaction with the offered thematic discussions for the school classes.
