Global Feminism in a Local Context: The Slovak Rapper and Singer Sima
Melicharová, Klára ; Havelková, Tereza (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
This work focuses on the moment when globally shared elements of feminism are transferred to a local context. Through cyberspace, contemporary feminist expressions make their way from Anglo-American pop culture and hip-hop into the life and musical production of the popular Slovak rapper and singer Sima. She actively chooses those elements that work for her and her fans. Thus, feminist expressions are adapted to Slovak society through mainstream music genres - pop and rap. This work has several goals. First, to describe how exactly Sima uses these feminist aspects in her work. The second is to show the functionality of transcultural Anglo-American feminist ideas in a different environment, given that they are properly adjusted to suit local needs. Finally, the third goal is to offer a view of mainstream music as a means to conscious feminist activities. For the first part of the methodology of this work I chose a detailed comparison of global feminist expressions with feminism in Sima's work and her self-presentation on social media. The second part focuses on an analysis of audiovisual and lyrical material of a rap track and a pop song, with the goal of finding and defining specific feminist expressions. The comparison and analysis show that during the process of transculturation of new elements...

Analysis of Gender Archetypes in the Book Women Who Run With the Wolves
Karasová, Teresa ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
In this thesis, I focus on the gender analysis of a book called Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pincola Estes. In my opinion, this book can be used both as study material and in one's personal life since it's a interpretative essayist which is in between a scientific text and fiction. In my thesis, I expand theories of Annis Pratt, Pam Morris, and Judith Fetterley. Since Estes puts a lot of focus onto the importance of archetypes I interpret them in the theoretical part and afterward, I put my full focus onto them in the analytical part of the thesis. Estes is strongly influenced by the analytical psychology of Carl Gustav Jung, because of this I focus on the subject, about which Jung's classical texts are about and which concepts can be taken subversive. At the same time, I am trying to point out in what sense was the Estés approach similar or vice versa is different from the other authors dealing with the archetypal issue. While working on the other topics mentioned above I am working on identifying other concepts, mainly feminist based theories, which influenced the discourse of the text. The main goal of this thesis is not a literary analysis of every single story, but a critical evaluation of how the author interprets the stories and what is the meaning of each archetype. While...
The Perception of Hormonal Birth Control (Contraception) by a Sample of Czech Men
V teoretické části podává ucelený obraz o expertním i veřejném diskurzu a základních argumentech souvisejících s problematikou v odborné literatuře. ABSTRACT This diploma thesis deals with the problematics concerning the female usage of hormonal contraception from the perspective of their male partners. In the theoretical part, the thesis describes the basic assertions, expert as well as public discourse linked with the problematics represented in professional literature. The analytical part is built on semi-constructed interviews with selected respondents. The interviews are drafted to illustrate the male conception of the problematics. Their answers from the interviews are analysed one by one through the views on gender. The thesis loosely follows previous theses describing social aspects of the usage of...
Fallen Women: Gender Imaging of Women in the Institution of Prison in Czech/Czechoslovak Film Production
Moravuszová, Klára ; Sokolová, Věra (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
The thesis deals with the construction of pictures of women who experienced with prison institution represented through films. From a gender perspective, the thesis analyzes how these structures are depicted and reflected as a part of the characters' stories in selected Czech and Czechoslovak films. The thesis consists of five parts. The first part introduces the theoretical background, then the second part focuses on the topic of gender and prison, or better said on the prison service in the Czech Republic. Part of this specification includes also the topic of power and women's crime; a large part is devoted also to gender-normative ideas in the institution of prison and the depiction of these topics in media (film). The fourth empirical part deals with methodological bases and the research methodology itself. The last fifth part presents the research and its results. The films reproduce the gender normative images of women thereby constantly anchoring them or disproving the concrete ideas about what the "right" and "desirable" women should be in order to be accepted in society. Linking women and the restrictive establishment of prison is one of the taboo-themed topics across the whole society. The thesis investigates how this topic is presented to the Czech and Czechoslovak film audience. Key...
Trasffered stigma of otherness in ethnically mixed partnerships in the Czech Republic
Weinbergerová, Lenka ; Sokolová, Věra (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
My diploma thesis on the basis of intersectionality analyzes the social construction of "otherness" in etnically mixed partnerships and how does it manifests and influences the self- conception of Czech women that are in the mixed relationships. Further, it analyzes how the partners "otherness" affects the position of the women in the society. In my thesis I work with the concept of transmitted stigma, because the etnical otherness is not constructed on the horizontal differences, but contains also classifing and assesing aspects, which may situate the mixed patnerships to the positions of dis/advantage. For my qualitative research I have chosen semi-structured interviews with women, that were born and live in the Czech Republic and are or was in etnically mixed relationship. Key words: mixed partnership, stigma, otherness, etnicity, race, intersectionality
Archetypal analysis of Radka Denemarkova's novel Příspěvek k dějinám radosti
Pavlisová, Petra ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (advisor) ; Baslarová, Iva (referee)
This master thesis constitutes the feminist archetypal analyses of a novel Příspěvek k dějinám radosti written by Radka Denemarková. It approaches the problematics with an intesectional point of view focused on rape-revenge. The methodological and theoretical part introduces the work of the novelist Radka Denemarková and her style of writting that is characterized as feminine writting, which is also defined in the thesis and specified by examples. Besides analysis of archetypes which are part of feminist theoretical texts, the analytical part analyses particular characters of the novel that are divided in three groups: the characters that take revenge on rape, those characters who rape or are part of groups that rapes others, the third group links previous two and the characters are part of police investigations of a murder. The thesis analyses archetypes of femininity that prevail in the novel and masculinity that are in minority.
When Men Dance. Construction of Masculinity in Male Pole Dancers
Postránecká, Markéta ; Sokolová, Věra (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
This diploma thesis examines current phenomenon of pole dance/sport. This activity which was originally performed in strip clubs was relatively recently redefined as a fitness activity offered at pole dancing studios initially for women, but now also for men. Despite the efforts to redefined pole dance as a fitness activity in the eyes of the public pole dance is still associated with its erotic roots and (therefore) with women. According to previous research pole dance is seen as a feminine and feminized activity. Men's participation in these activities is, according to studies, associated with the belief that those men are effeminate or homosexual and therefore construct their gender identity in ways which are inconsistent with the social ideas of masculinity. In this thesis I explore the ways in which male pole dancers construct their masculinity within this unique environment. I also explore what participation in the world of pole dance mean to men who take pole dancing classes and/or who teach them as well as the stereotypes placed upon men to act in a certain way to be considered masculine. In this research I also discuss the role of the body on construction of masculinity. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews with six Czech male pole dancers over the age of 18 and examined...
