Nursing care of the patient with post-dural-puncture headache in obstetrics
Drahokoupilová, Milada ; Heczková, Jana (advisor) ; Kulhavá, Miluše (referee)
The topic of my thesis has been decided on the basis of my profession as an anesthesiology nurse at the Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics, in which I come into contact with pain of mothers very often. The effort of medical staff is to relieve women from the pain as much as possible. Pain relieving methods include the application of epidural analgesia for labor. In the Czech Republic, like in other countries in the world, we have experienced 20 years of a steady rise in the use of this method. However, regional analgesia has its complications. One of them is the post-dural-puncture headache, which is relatively frequent in obstetrics (about 1% of all neuroaxial methods). This complication can have serious consequences for patients without adequate treatment, nursing care, adequate communication and psychological support. My bachelor theses provides insight into this issue. The work consists of two main parts and is processed as a case report. The theoretical part is a review of methods of regional analgesia pain relieving. I describe the difference between epidural and spinal analgesia and possible complications. Most of the space is given to the main complication - post-dural-puncture headache. I will focus on specific psychological problems in the puerperium that is associated with complications...
Physical, mental and social integrity of renal transplant recipients.
Štollová, Milena ; Kulhavá, Miluše (advisor) ; Pírková, Vendula (referee)
The thesis for a baccalaureate degree addresses the topic of overall wellbeing of the renal transplant recipient. It is divided into a theoretical and an empirical section. The theoretical section discusses the status of the patient with irreversible kidney failure whereby the method is transplantation. The outputs for the empirical section derive from a questionnaire-based survey performed with 113 adult transplant recipients once their renal transplant function has stabilized. The aim of the thesis was to compare parameters of renal function and physical condition with overall quality of life. After having defined five partial goals, a survey was conducted using non-standardized questionnaires. Its results were compared with renal markers and data obtained from standardized questionnaires. The partial goals related to physical and psychical condition, sleep, concerns about one's future, and a socio-spiritual component. The quality of life was found to be inferior to that seen in the general population. No correlation was demonstrated between renal function markers on the one hand, and physical and psychical condition on the other. Individuals experiencing more immune system-related complications (rejection) only reported more tangible support from family and friends. Quite logically, the fact...
Increasing age of primigravidae in the Czech Republic
Svobodová, Anežka ; Kulhavá, Miluše (advisor) ; Lukášová Jeřábková, Lenka (referee)
Increasing age of primigravidae is discussed topic nowdays. It's a trend that also affects the Czech Republic - The Czech Statistical Office shows that the process of increasing age of primigravidae progresses since 1990 till now and that is why I consider it important to talk about this issue. The main objective of this work is to determine the causes of the increasing age of primigravidae in the Czech Republic. Sub-objectives are: to determine if socioeconomic factors are reasons for delaying childbirth, to determine whether delaying childbirth is the cause of the emancipation of women and whether the decision of delaying childbirth is affected by low knowledge of risks associated with late childbirths (for both mother and child). The work consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part consists of three parts and each of them is related to one objective. The first part is dedicated to changes during pregnancy and pregnancy of old primigravidae. The second part analyses family policy in the Czech Republic and the third part describes status of women in the Czech Republic. The research part is implemented in the Highlands region and in Prague, these two parts has been compared. As a research method I have chosen quantitative method of anonymous questionnaire. The...
Caesarian Section on Demand - Yes or No
Skřivanová, Eva ; Kulhavá, Miluše (advisor) ; Hrdličková, Renáta (referee)
The topic of this bachelor thesis is "Caesarean section on demand". The thesis deals with women's interest in undergoing the surgery at their own request and with the reasons behind their choice. It consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the history of obstetrics, on Caesarean section, indications for a Caesarean section, possible methods, anesthesia, potential complications and spontaneous delivery. The empirical part is based on quantitative research. By means of a questionnaire, women have been asked whether they are interested in undergoing Caesarean section at their own request and what are the reasons behind their choice. The empirical part further examines whether women are interested in choosing their preferred type of anesthesia and what this type is. The total number of respondents who participated in the survey was 82; they had been chosen randomly. The survey was conducted in January 2014. Its results have shown that only 37,80% of respondents are interested in Caesarean section at their own request. The most frequent reasons for this choice are their concern for the child's health, fear of pain and previous bad birth experience. 30 respondents out of the 31 interested in Ceasarean section on demand are interested in choosing their...
Use of Nutrition Supplements for the Elderly
Tenglerová, Dana ; Kulhavá, Miluše (advisor) ; Podaná, Jana (referee)
The primary goal of my thesis was to describe the use of food supplements by seniors. Most seniors use medications prescribed by physicians and some of them also use over-the-counter food supplements that are more easily accessible. Seniors, in particular, are susceptible to considering food supplements to be as efficient as medications under the incessant influence of massive advertising on TV and other media, and many of them are willing to spend considerable amounts from their income on such preparations. In the theoretical part of my thesis, I define the term 'senior', describe the traits of ageing, and focus on the topic of nutrition in this age group. Then I focus on food supplements in general and their distinction from medications. The end of the theoretical part is focused on advertising and its impact on seniors. In the research part, which was prepared by means of a quantitative research, I examine the use of food supplements among seniors aged over 65, hospitalised at the Slaný Hospital. A total of 100 respondents were addressed, and 95 questionnaires were used at the end. The research shows that 60 % of the respondents use food supplements regularly or occasionally. One of the sub-goals of the thesis was determining the financial burden for seniors in purchasing the preparations....

v anglickém jazyce Hemorrhoids, defined as dilated vascular plexus in rectum and anus, is a disease that affects significant and diverse part of population. This disease is caused mainly by unhealthy and sedentary lifestyle, which is typical for many people these days. Every individual can either prevent or change most of the factors contributing to the emergence of this disease by altering his or her lifestyle. The theoretical part focuses on the knowledge concerning the disease hemorrhoids, its historical evolution, anatomy, symptoms, causes, diagnosis, complications, treatment and nursing care after hemorrhoidectomy. The conclusion of this part deals with the prevention of hemorrhoids and education. The empirical part of the thesis includes a quantitative research, which was implemented by questionnaire survey. The goal was to examine whether respondents are informed about the problems of hemorrhoids, if they follow preventive procedures and how do they apply these elements in everyday life. My goal was also to find out which are the most common sources of information for people and whether they have personal experience with this disease. The distribution of the...

This thesis deals with nursing care of skin defects using a wet therapy in neonatology. The first section summarizes information related to preterm infants, the development of the individual layers of the skin in the embryonic period. It lists a brief history of wound healing too, focusing just on the development of the wet therapy . Furthermore is marginally discussed the evaluation and documentation of damage to the skin wound. For interest, the thesis mentions a case reportof the preterm newborn with the necrosis of the lower limb, accompanied by commentaries of the alternative treatment for this type of skin damage from my own experience. The second part is assessing the awareness of the nurses in the modern methods of the healing. The priority is the mapping of the experience in using the wet therapy through the quantitative research, which is mediated by an anonymous questionnaire. The main goal of the research is to determine the awareness of the nurses from the neonatology intensive care unit, resuscitation and intermediate care in the nursing of the skin defects using a wet therapy. For this purpose the chosen method...
